Why though?

Seemed to have many qualities that would have fit our current style (athletic, engine). Knows the place, seemed appreciated and may need a fresh start. Probably won't make it at Chelsea but could still be good. Think he looked good the little he played here earlier.

A very good signing from Burton Albion - although very clearly hasn't progressed too well at Chelsea. Burton have done a lot of good work in the transfer market this season, suspect they're going to be a dark horse for a play-off run albeit in a very tough league.

They’ve done good work but they’re such a young team now. They’re clearly hoping someone hits and they make big profit, but not sure how you gel so many kids like they’ll have to with basically no experience.

If he'd stayed at Derby he'd have been a regular last season.

Classy young player, wonder how much this has stalled his development?

You have to wonder if there's something going on in the background though, or if he's not taken the opportunity with both hands. There are plenty of young players that do do well at Chelsea.

Why don't these kids learn? Sign for the elite clubs, who don't care about you or your progress and then spit you out when you haven't turned into a wonder kid. Him and Malcom have both wasted 2 years. They could have had 2 full seasons under their belt and actually improved.

When he left Rooney said in an interview that he'd told him he couldn't turn down the opportunity, so it probably gave him the relevant nudge as this indicates he was in two minds.  Not the best advice probably if you already have first team football at a decent level on tap.

He did have the chance at Hull but mustn't have impressed.  Thought it was a rather silly move on his part after getting an appreciative support and first team games after being a foot ball nomad.  Could say that about Allsopp as well who clearly impressed at Hull just as much via Cardiff who must also have been impressed.

Have we been paid for Malcolm by our best friends in football by the way, or are they still thinking about another offer 2 years after their superb 30 k opening gambit.

He left us and has wasted 2 years at Chelsea sorry he is not coming back now.

Well yes, that’s why he’s going to Burton and the threads in the Ex-Rams section. Who said he was coming back?

Be interesting to see what he has learned and how he has developed. With the likes of Chelsea you must get a higher level of coaching even at U21 level.

He'll now be getting regular first team football and is still only 20, and I'd guess in the next few years he'll be back in the championship.

Only time will tell if it was a good move for him or us. Had he not left when he did he would have probably ended up leaving shortly after for Palace or somewhere. Its not like those players have achieved much either. Maybe Archie Brown as a direct comparison shows that playing actual games is the better pathway.
