Heard one of the commentators on rams TV tonight say they can only bring subs on at certain intervals and that's why he couldn't bring on weston towards the end? But I've never heard of this?

Can make 5 subs but only stop the game 3 times (half time not included).

Why is this even a rule? Surely is stops teams having the ability to give the young lads a chance as most won't want to do it until the last 10/15 when them slots will most likely have been used? Seems like an idea that will affect the upcoming players massively

Because the game is already slow enough. Allowing teams to time waste by stopping the game 5 times for subs, plus taking forever for every goal kick, throw in etc is way too much.

Whilst i get that , All of that already happens though, 2 extra subs isn't much? Feel like it hampers youngsters opportunity , although let's be honest warn don't like playing youngsters anyway,  only did it in the cup to rest his precious players so he don't have to bring on the forbidden youngsters in league games ffs , how weston never got on when we were 3 nil up at home is criminal , what incentive do young lads have in the u21 currently?

Dont get any less chance than when there were only 3 subs full stop though, so the middle ground was not stopping the game anymore.

Agree on Warne though, he should’ve brought Weston on today.

You can always save a stoppage/substitution for the last 10 mins or so.

Worth also noting that you can make a sub outside these restrictions with the concussion protocol.

I don't like the rule and would rather go back to 3 subs.

Money is such a huge part of the game these days and now, with this rule it can give well funded football teams an advantage during the football match.

Chelsea must have between 30 and 40 players who cost over £10 million each... Luton have an average squad.

If Luton are lucky enough to get to the last 20 minutes at 1-1 against Chelsea, their players may start to tire, none of the players on their bench are better than the players they have on the field.

Chelsea can look to their bench and bring on better players than they already have on the field, bringing 3 on would have been a big advantage in itself but to be able to bring 5 on could totally change a game, it's like a cheat mode on a computer game.

It may not effect us as much but teams who get relegated from the Championship to League One may well have big squads and ultimately a better chance of picking up vital points late on in games using 5 subs to help them get back out of this league.

It's a joke really when you consider those things, plus the number of stoppages for bogus injuries which often take longer than the time to make a sub... plus the fact that making multiple subs in one "stoppage" still takes longer than making only one sub in that stoppage... plus the fact that the game isn't actually "stopped" to make a sub (it just isn't restarted until the sub has been made)... plus the fact that if the time is added back on properly for each sub then in theory it isn't lost and can flow without any further stoppages to punctuate it later in the game.

I'm not advocating five separate sub occasions but there are a good few inconsistencies in their logic, it seems.

How about this: every time a goalie takes longer than 10 seconds to take a goal kick, the opponent is allowed to initiate another substitution, up to a maximum of all the subs on the bench. That might stop some of the timewasting!
