Your "couldn't do any worse" XI

Risky, possible stupid selections/formations that you'd nevertheless like to see tried, because they just might work with what we've got.

Here's mine:

Marshall
Bryne/Edmundson/Clarke/Buchanan
Knight/Baningime
Joswiak/Watson/Sibley
CKR

On the basis that if we can't have quality in the midfield, we might as well have a bit more energy and forward thrust; that we desperately need more guile and skill in the three AM positions, players who are comfortable on the ball, carry some threat and can play (and receive) incisive passes; that I like having defenders who can play out from the back.

Here's a radical idea that might just work: Play the best players. In Bielik's absence....

                  Marshall

Byrne. Wisdom. Clarke. Buchanan

        Watson.   Shinnie. Knight

  Jozwiak Kazim-Richards. Roberts

=

If Sibley regains form, put him in.

If Roberts disappears, send for Waggy.

Can anyone who has put Roberts in tell me what I am missing ??

I’ve seen a player making the right decisions, in terms of attempting the right pass or trying to run at the opposition but without the confidence or belief to pull it off. If we were in a better position ourselves he’s the type of player who you’d keep putting in the side and show a bit of belief to and hopefully you’d reap the rewards. But because we need points we cant really mentor him at the minute and he keeps playing the bit-part which doesn’t help him or us.

I think he’s good enough to be worth a go and it could benefit us long term.

Except Hughes was good at the defensive stuff whereas Watson isn't

I guess he was good at closing down and had good energy and discipline. Don't know enough about Watson to know if he could ever play that role, but there's a tradition of attack minded/"passing" forwards dropping deeper and doing well, if surrounded by the right players, and I'm not sure you'd say all of them were good defensively (Paul Scholes, for example; probably Rooney too).

Ha. England's record goalscorer stands out a bit in that side...

Wonder what our best "if only we had them all at their peak" side looks like: Ravanelli, Rooney, Kinkladze, etc etc
