So, you're dismissing academic work because 'they might have a motive'. Excellent argument there.

Funny you should use this as a defence. What if we were talking about climate change? Would you dismiss an 'academics work' because he/she was perceived to have a 'motive'?

It's mad that those who didn't want the Conservatives and Boris Johnson anywhere near Downing Street (me included) seem far more supportive of government actions than those who voted for him.

That isn't intended as an opinionated, political comment. It's just another example of the strange times we live in.

May have something to do with whether you trust and/or believe experts or not.

I can see @Albert's point about the 11.7 years BUT I would question:

1) How on Earth can they actually put a number against how many years extra that person would have lived unless you compare it against the average life expectancy, and EXCLUDE minus numbers. i.e Someone who is already over the 81 years of age cannot have a negative life expectancy

2) Isn't this like saying, the average life expectancy of someone who dies from cancer or flu or suicide or car crashes or any numerous number of scenarios that Covid-19 is causing is XXX. All things we don't shut a country down for.

“As many nurses have now died from coronavirus than were killed during the entirety of the First World War, the International Council of Nurses (ICN) has revealed.”

Not many any of these unfortunate folk would of been in their 80’s.

How many die around the world every year without a pandemic season?

I have no idea rammieib.

Do you?

I did find this though;

Office for National Statistics (ONS) figures show that in England and Wales, there were 50.4 deaths per 100,000 male nurses and 15.3 deaths per 100,000 female nurses between 9 March and 25 May.

Data show a much higher rate of COVID-19 deaths among nurses

This compares with 19.1 deaths involving COVID-19 per 100,000 men in the general population and 9.7 deaths per 100,000 women in the general population.

Not had too many 82 year olds turn up with deliveries round mine

Although my daughter (aged 39) survived, she was very ill indeed back in March and is still suffering problems with acute breathlessness on occasions, even now. So perhaps Marathon runners ought to steer clear of applying for jobs with delivery companies too.

You started the live thing??‍♂️,,, whilst I obviously feel for anyone suffering it’s also very fair to say the vast majority have no problem whatsoever, I have a few friends who tested positive and worst was flu like ill for a week then good as gold

So, do you have a source on this, and a breakdown of life expectancy for elsewhere?

More than a few.

From ten years ago but I'm reliably informed the position hasn't changed.

The average life expectancy for those committed to care homes is just two years. But according to immediate care annuities specialist Partnership, self-funders more typically survive for four years. One in ten self-funders live for eight years in care, meaning the cost could rise to more than £200,000.3 Nov 2010

No, I think that was epidemiologists within the WHO. I prefer to take my advice from scientists as opposed to those who put their faith in those who believe that we are ruled by lizard people and that Bill Gates wishes to inject nanobots into us..
