The oil thing is kind of almost the exact same plot as the end of Trading Places except oil instead of Orange Juice - if that helps explain it to anyone?

You may have to explain it in more detail. Not sure everyone's firing on all cylinders at the moment.

Can we have a sweepstake on what will be our specialist subject for May 2020 please?

Just as a reminder so far, we have already had:-

March 2020 - Herd immunity

April 2020 - COBRA meetings in the 21st century

May 2020 - ???

Surely March and April has mainly been PPE?

Not heard it mentioned yet?

Hopefully the media will pick up on it in tomorrow's daily briefing.

Unfortunately, as is always the case, the media have their go to people, who in fact, more often than not are not experts at all and don't even deserve to polish the shoes of the experts. The experts are not on TV being interviewed, trying to raise their profiles. They are trawling through the data and studies, conducting their own, quietly in the background. They do not publicly publish their data and studies until they are peer reviewed and in cases like this, for reasons of national security, are prevented from publishing for a select period of time.

Most importantly, they don't want to go on National TV and be shouted down by the likes of Buffoons such as Piers Morgan.

Over the coming weeks you will see more and more of these studies make into the realms of public through social media and the national media. But they are footnotes almost in terms of their prominence compared to all other articles.

I initially thought this was going to be catastrophic based on the data that was being published. But we now have more accurate figures. Unfortunately the media backed the government (not only in this country) into a corner. They were not going to stop until we had a lock-down and the government were A. worried about if they had enough capacity in place in time and B. the media's narrative would lead to civil unrest. As ultimately this lock-down is being governed by consent.

To be clear, i'm not interested in point scoring with other users. As I say, I have been wrong on this and followed the data and statistics as much as possible. I genuinely thought based on the modelling I had seen, we we're heading for hundreds of thousands, potentially even millions of deaths in this country. But those models were based on what now turns out to be, bad data.

What modelling have you seen and where was it from ?

Worst case scenario modelling based on WHO figures at the time of 3.5% mortality rate,15% ICU figures and 80% infection rate. Was on an accompanying document, I can't find.

Italy's actual figures were matching our model (very similar population size) day for day, up until around infection day 90, where they were experiencing around 1000 deaths per day.

With new cases having fallen dramatically to about 7-12 a day it has been decided that playschools and primary schools will return to normal levels from May 4 onward.  Keeping 2 meter distance for the pupils will not be possible, but we have been told it is safe because kids under 12 rarely catch the virus and even more rarely infect adults.  The obvious problem with this rationale is that teens up to 16 year old are in those schools, our son is 15.

One smart decision has been made though, all passengers arriving in the country will be quarantined for 14 days, including tourists.  That should have been the rule from the start, but better late than never.

Way too many people are now behaving as if this crisis is over, the danger passed.  i worry that we might get a second wave.
