There's no proven managers available.. The only one you could argue is McCarthy.

People have been going on about Dean Smith but for all his plus points he's never actually won anything in his managerial career.

It's a pretty bold statement to say Lampard can't  manage without knowing anything about what he's been doing in-between playing and now. You've not seen him interview and you don't know the way he wants to play. We know he's a risk but Zidane won his 3rd champions league in a row last night, he had as much as experience as Lampard when he took the role.

Everyone is available if the price is right. After all we've got £2 million quid for punting Rowett onto Stoke City in the kitty.

Guardiola, Pochettino, Zidane, Conte and Simeone are all ex-footballers who have done pretty well for themselves in recent years. Where is the evidence that Lampard can't manage a team?

What's the alternative? Emply Nigel Pearson because he once coached Leicester to the PL?

Lampard could be a great choice with ideas that go beyond setting up cones on a training field and picking the starting XI. There needs to be some clear plan or identity put in place...

How do you know there isn't one?

The point is we don't know.  It's a gamble.  A huge gamble.

Do we need to gamble? I'm not sure we do.

Playing red and black at the casino is exciting.  But I wouldn't bet my house on it

No. Zidane managed Real Madrid B in Spanish equivalent of the championship

Lampard has been a coach on the Chelsea u18 team managed by Jody Morris. He wasn't the manager but a coach.

Not the u23s. The U18s. Kids. Some of whom are still at school.

Do we need to gamble? Every managerial appointment is a gamble - why is this any different?

We’re Derby County, not Man City or Bayern Munich, therefore we’re limited to managers just starting out or managers who have both suceeded and failed elsewhere.

There is no such thing as a safe managerial appointment in the Championship when the aim is promotion.

Mel, as you're here, can you bring the cask shack back please? Make it a fiver a pint if that's what it takes, just give me good ale.

Oh, and the manager...suit yourself really. I'm right about new managers less than half the time, so go happy old son. I'll butt out.

If you are reading  this mel ,get a move on mate and get the contract s signed , you are a business man and as such you will know the  massive commercial sense that appointing lampard at this point in derby and lampard evolution makes ,, against on the other side of the scales the fact that every appointment is a risk anyway in terms of will it work out whether experienced or not.

i say get a move on because those twits ( with an a) at Aston Villa have now lost the play off final and with John Terry already there will no doubt be eying the whole lampard appointment thing too ,,,,,, get it done mate quick smart ,I’m sick of villa latching on to our ideas then beating us to the punch ,,,,

if villa nip in and take lampard you will have a very very flat club and set of supporters for any manager to try to lift next season

Smith has been good at wheeler-dealing and his teams play great football

The reason Warburton left Brentford was because they don't let the manager pick and choose the players, they have a coach who is there to work with the players the club bring in, so we don't know if he is any good picking his own players.
