Any thoughts now would be knee jerk based on fans favourites, who you wanted the club to sign and seen other clubs sign.

The only Derby shirt we have seen Palmer in so far is a polo shirt and Jerome has only had a couple of cameo appearances.

Russell is the one player we will "miss" if you like with 13 starts this season, Shackell was out the picture, as was Martin and Bent. Personal feelings on those players aside, they were players that were not being used, does it make you weaker when they were never really part of the team?  Weaker in options maybe but options that were not needed in over half a season.

Bennett's chances of first team football were slim at best, not sure he's played enough to really be thrown into the conversation. Hopefully he can grab this opportunity and impress.

Let's see Palmer and more of Jerome on the pitch, judge them on performances not on paper, as that's where it really matters.

Palmer played most of his games in Vydra's position last season. He does in the few cup appearences at Chelsea too. He has a handful of games at RW in his whole career.

He is here for cover in Vydra's position, which we needed.

The fact we were in for Lookman and Steve Macdonald shows you we were after a wide player. Stop trying to convince yourselves otherwise.

Slightly weaker, imo.

About the same, but the balance is a bit different and we're evolving into rowetts team and squad quite nicely.

Palmer vydra and Lawrence will mostly play behind camjam id think, with BFV if we need a wide bully and wee ikechi if we want a "proper" winger who's a bit quick, a bit skilled and a bit inconsistent and lacking end product.

Out:

  1. Johnny Russell to Sporting Kansas City (£250k) [MLS]
  2. Chris Martin to Reading (loan)
  3. Darren Bent to Burton (loan)
  4. Jason Shackell to Millwall (loan)
  5. Max Lowe to Shrewsbury (loan) [League 1]
  6. Mason Bennett to Notts County (loan) [League 2]
  7. Offrande Zanzala to Accrington Stanley (loan) [League 2]
  8. Callum Guy to Bradford City (loan) [League 1]
  9. Charles Vernam to Grimsby (loan) [League 2]
  10. Emil Riis Jacobsen to VVV Venlo (loan) [Dutch top flight]
  11. Luke Thomas to St Johnstone (loan) [SPL] - not confirmed by the club that I've seen

In:

  1. Cameron Jerome from Norwich (£1.5m)
  2. Kasey Palmer from Chelsea (loan)
  3. Ikechi Anya from the cupboard

Have I missed anyone? Apologies if so. We are leaner. Moor Farm will be a little emptier. Russell is the only regular to have gone, so with Jerome and Palmer in I suggest it makes us slightly stronger. Anya was our best wide player at Millwall.

I am content - we are far ahead of where we expected to be, so I am glad we didn’t make any panic buys.

Judging whether we are stronger or weaker, we’ll only know in May. But what will be will be. We are in the mix for automatic promotion and it’s an exciting time in that respect.

Palmer is a shrewd signing - he’s young,  raw but with some interesting qualities. He looks positive, strong, athletic, full of running and seems to have good technique and vision and he can play all over the midfield. Could be a revelation if he gets the game time.

Jerome is a good signing, especially now Bent and Martin have left, and seems to have impressed so far.

Russell is a big loss and I am surprised we haven’t replaced him like for like. But Weimann and Anya must be thinking they have a real chance now to make their mark and justify what we spent on them.

King Matej finally came good - let’s see what they can do.

Swapped Johnny who started 15 games, made 10 sub appearances, scoring 4 goals and getting 2 assists this season...

For a player on loan who apparently had a 'good' last season by starting 16 games, making 9 sub appearances, scoring 4 goals and getting 3 assists.

My parsnips aren't exactly being buttered here.

Okay so if Thomas is staying, our wide options are : lawrence Johnson Weimann Anya and Thomas possibly Palmer too who can also back up Vyds. Palmer appears to be tougher than all of our wingers save Bradley.

Reality is that Lawrence is Rowetts number 1 winger followed not by Weimann but by Johnson. Then will come the others fighting it out or displacing those two  ... So we have sufficient wide depth if you factor in Johnson who is clearly one of Rowetts fave players.

Lookman we were clearly after but he chose Germany so cest la vie

Way weaker.....lost a strong experienced winger with no proper replacement, Chris Martin who could have been utilised as an option to the end of the season at least and bent who may have been handy if less so than the other two.

Plus seemingly all of our academy prospects...

Oh well,in Gary everyone trusts... so let's see how we get on.

Well done Derby County and Gary Rowett. Been strong in this window, haven’t succumbed to the pressure to make signings to chase promotion!

McClean for the money they were talking would’ve been bonkers. Lookman has done us over at the last. Grosicki would’ve been a great addition, it’s clear he wanted it but Hull weren’t so keen - nothing to stop us pursuing that one in the summer and probably getting a better deal.

Martin wasn’t adding anything sat on the bench, Russell wanted to go (he’s clearly chosen lifestyle over football - do we really want someone like that), Palmer was decent for Huddersfield last season and Russell leaving gives Anya an opportunity to come in from the cold!

Are we stronger? Not in terms of personnel but with leaner numbers the team dynamic will be enhanced

Are we weaker - absolutely no way and to say otherwise is folly!

Some people are just whipped up into a frenzy by deadline day!! We were in good shape before and we’re still in good shape after.

Is Ikechi Anya not an experienced winger then?!

I think we are Slightly stronger / maybe the same

All the youth players out on loan is good experience for them & they wouldnt have played for us this season

shacks & bent never played so them going is no loss... its s case of go on loan or sit in our under 23s

martin wasnt in Gary’s plans & based on this season he has done nothing. Fair enough he hasnt played. However signing a player like jerome who will play vs a bench warmer who won't play or fits our style is an improvement.

Only real loss is arguably Russell however if we are bringing Anya back into the fold then they’re probably both pretty similar. Both try hard, both run around a lot & both are occasionally effective but most of the time frustrating & lack end product

A bit Weaker

losing russell could turn out to be more significant than some people think.

Some of our best performances were when johnny played well.

anya - plays for short bursts, and is one of the dwarves that gary didn't want

palmer i think is more likely to be cover for vydra.

Weimann, vydra, lawrence, johnson, palmer, anya, thomas is still quite strong but maybe lacks genuine competition for the wingers. Lawrence needs dropping but we can't really do that now. Not sure that we found the missing spark.

We missed out on a couple - steele and grosicki - maybe gave ourselves a bit too much to do in a short time.

carson, mitchell, roos, baird, wisdom, olsson, forsyth, keogh, Davies, pearce, huddlestone, ledley, thorne, hanson, weimann, vydra, lawrence, johnson, palmer, anya, thomas, jerome, nugent, winnall.
