The Bridge after the game

Old bloke with an injury to his head. There were people creating a corden round him and lighting the path as the ‘step’ was slippy.

Sadly for those of us who frequent the bridge we are well aware of the steps but those who use that way infrequently can be taken by surprise by them.

The people were helping the old man by shielding him from prying eyes, and illuminating the path. The problem was that the gap became single file past them which created the long wait. It took us half an hour to get through.

Hope he is ok though.

Really don’t understand why they don’t improve that bridge. Needs to be wider and step-less. It’s been a nightmare since we moved to PP. **** the Council or Toys R Us or whoever owns that shitty bit of concrete.

They are doing it up at the minute, all part of a revamp of the a52 on that stretch.

Yeah, let's have a pop at the council!

It's there fault for everything. They control the weather, the moss, people getting drunk and slipping over and the fact your neighbour has a better looking missus...whatever the gripe, it's the council's fault.

I take your point about people blaming the council and/or the government for everything, but whoever has responsibility for the bridge and it's attendant lighting, also has a responsibility for maintaining it and ensuring safety so far as is reasonably practicable.

Maybe if we stopped forcing local authorities to do more with less every year we would be in a better position to make things like this happen.

Or if local authorities stopped wasting public cash we'd be in a better position. Better of private !

Is the cash wasted commensurate with the cuts made? I'm not saying there's not waste in public services but I don't think it's any worse than the private sector; in fact I'd say it's miles better. With publically scrutinised open book tenders, strict guidelines on gifts and hospitality, no perks worthy of mention - apart from a few fat salaries at the top (perfectly acceptable in the private sector) it's down to the bare bones, to quote a footballing cliche. The public sector would love to privatise it - first thing they'd do is hike the charges.

This is the real problem, everyone wants everything but few are willing to pay for it, just be done with it and put the taxes up, an extra tenner a year on council taxes would have paid for a new bridge ages ago, although you do wonder why the council should pay for a problem specifically caused by the club! Only time the bridge has an issue is on match days.

Whilst we are at it, put income tax back up by 1 or 2% it would still be less than in the 80's and it would go a long way to fix the lack of funds in the NHS
