Tactical Changes

Now we all like to pretend that we are the next Pep Guardiola, and that anything we say will change our clubs form so much that we would run away with the Title. I have seen that we like to discuss these partly in other topics.

So I just wanted to see what the guys on here would do to our tactics to improve our squad.

Any players to bring in to achieve these?

I'd like us to try 3 at the back, like in the Bald Eagle glory days.

-----------Keogh---------Davis---------Pearce

Wisdom-------Ledley-----------Thorne---------Forsyth/Olsson

-----------------------------Vydra

------------------Martin-----------Nugent

Wisdom as an overlapping fullback simply doesn't work.

Anya would be perfect but he has ceased to exist like the plot line of a tired black mirror episode where only I can remember him ever being alive. I go crazy, believing it's all a big conspiracy theory and that I'm being watched. My friends start to worry about me and they come round to my house to find a wall with red string all over it pointing to different small men with afros. After several traumatic episodes I am escorted to a mental institution and placed in a straight jacket as I rant and rave about a Scotland international. I'm left in a room and told the doctor will see me now. The doctor walks in. It is Gary Rowett and he is laughing insanely. My head explodes.

Did you have some special mushrooms on your fry up this morning?

Don't necessarily disagree with this, HOWEVER...

Wisdom as a wing back would not work. Anya would be ideal but I sense that is unlikely to be a go-er. In a back three, I would actually play Wisdom on the right of the 3 (similar to Azpilicueta) and I actually think that his pace would be important - it would allow Keogh to step up a little more.

Additionally, I think if we are playing a front 2, you have to have Vydra as 1 of those 2 and not in behind. I know that GR has said that he sees Vydra as the best number 10 in the league - but if you have 2 up top and Vydra in behind you are simply too lightweight in midfield. Vydra himself has said that he likes to play off another striker so I could see him and Martin as an out and out front 2 working really well. I'd them be inclined to play Lawrence or someone with a bit more vision in behind (shame we don't have Hughesy)

As it stands, I actually think that the below could work quite well. However, we have never really played 3 at the back - nor have many of these players, so it is a risk. I know that it is the 'in' thing at the moment and I, for one, don't claim to be a tactical mastermind, but it would represent quite a shift. I'm also not convinced that there is much point to it if our remit under GR appears to be more direct.

-----------Wisdom--------------Keogh------------Davies

Anya------------------------------------------------------------Forsyth/Olsson

------------------------Thorne------------Ledley

---------------------------------Lawrence?

----------------------Martin-------------------Vydra

Watch the recent Derby V Reading match. He was arguably our most attacking player.

All resistance is futile. You will be taken INSIDE THE BUILDING <sounds of buzzers, flashing strobe lights, the ground begins to shake. Several men wearing white boiler suits and Gary Rowett masks appear.>

We could have a Derby County based spy franchise.

Did Estaban Fuertes have a forged passport because he was a South American secret agent?

Was Eddie Lewis ever a footballer or just a deep cover agent trying to fit in?

I’d definately look at going three at the back as others have said, a lot of teams are having success of it at the moment. It’s much more fluid used correctly than some of the more ridged traditional formations, with the right amount of training on it I think it could be a real success in this division. Always seems harder to play against when I’ve watched, and we already have a lot of players who would be suited to playing it. I’d look at something like:

Carson

Wisdom Keogh Davies

NEW Thorne NEW Lowe

Lawrence Martin Vydra

Think those two around Martin would create some nice interchanges and that back three provides the perfect balance for this sort of formation. We’d only really need a quality attack RWB and probably a box to box midfielder to link play beside Thorne, tho Johnson or ledley could maybe do a job there.
