Am only challenging your point of view as I was challenged when I criticised McClaren for not making the playoffs last year and was given the retort that it was down to injuries either it's true or not true.....

It was down to a whole bunch of things going wrong - losing Bucko, Martin and Bent as well as every defensive midfielder at the club, trememdous negativity from half-fans, McClaren repeatedly sort-of nearly committing himself to Derby but being continually questioned over every word and a general lack of ability of anyone to actually 'do a Wassall' (i.e. stop the rot).

Maybe that's mclarens problem. When things are going well, he's able to tap into that abs make it go even better. But when things start going bad, he's hopeless at turning it back around. At Newcastle and Forest, it was already bad, he was brought in to stop the rot, which is not what he's good at.

But it's not often a club is looking for a new manager when they're already doing quite well.

Yes so the answer somewhere in there is that injuries were a reason for us missing out on the playoffs last season contrary to the OPs statement

Only someone with a tenuous grip on reality would decide that if you were trying to calculate an equation containing several variables, you only need to know the value of one of them in order to determine the solution.

Since when was wild guessing a bad idea?

Intuition has played a great part in many successful people's lives. It can also be a complete twinkler.

He did a pretty good job of turning it round (albeit on a smaller scale) when we were 1-4 down to Ipswich at half-time. Demoralised team who hadn't got over the shock of losing their old boss and he got them fired up enough to stage a big comeback.

Phrase of the day - 'do a Wassall' - brilliant, eddie

As Darren said, 'Wassall the fuss about, managing Derby County is easy'?

Wassall over till Darren got the job.

They thought it Wassallover, it is now! World Cup Final, 1066

Darren Wassall the managerial candidates that Mel could think of. Does Mel know more than us? Apparently so !

Wassall going pear shaped till Darren got the job.

Do we have a 'Here we go a Wassalling' song to put on here?

Wassallabout pussy cat?

Wassalling Matilda would not have worked and we all know it.

Wassall about Darren till 'Arry came along.

There's only one Wassall'n'Arry.

There's only one Darren'Arry

I could go on, as you all know!

A draw against Derby is now no use at all to Brighton, they would still have to beat Boro to get promotion.

Losing against us does not rule them out of promotion

Winning against us means that they will only need a draw against Boro

Hastings were a non-League Club at that time, small capacity ground but a real Battle.

Away side brought a big following and made the Millwall and Leeds fans look lightweight.

Away side were playing tip tapestry football and finished up with 100% possession

If we get promoted through the play offs can we all sing this at Wembeley to the tune of Do The Hustle?

Do do do dudo dudo do doo, do do do dudo dudo do doo, do do do dudo dudo do doo, do do do dudo dudo do doo...
