I said weeks ago that it wouldn’t be until the results became a little less positive that the adrenalin effect would wear off and we’d start to see the fatigue that has accumulated in so many players who have been asked to play almost every game.
My opinion is despite the thin squad there could have been several options for a considered rotation policy that could have just eased this a little. Not all at once but drip fed along.
For example, Stearman has been grossly underused. He could easily have stepped in to replace / rest Jagielka or Davies and he could also have been used as a third CB to allow cover / rest for the full backs. The same reasoning could be used for drip feeding several other younger players in at various times to rest or rotate Lawrence / Morrison neither of whom are irreplaceable. Byrne and Festy could be the same.
I know the squads small and we’d have needed to ride out luck a little but if we’d been clever the massively over used players could have taken breaks with very little effect on immediate performance.
The next few weeks could see an increase in poor performance and injuries.

It’s the football fan way. I don’t think fans from any club will be any different.
Football is the most subjective topic on the planet and it is acceptable for anyone, literally anyone no matter how limited their knowledge or insight to have an opinion that can’t actually be challenged, where it is possible to challenge the virtues of the most highly skilled and highly qualified in its industry…..doesn’t happen in any other profession quite like it does football.
However that is part of the fun……

Thank goodness someone has said it. I like Sibley but this love in pretence that he’s a game changer at the moment is pure perception and not based on any real evidence.
He had 16 touches of the ball yesterday in 37 minutes of a half we dominated. He was dispossessed 3 times, competed 4 out of just 5 passes, had a speculative shot off target, made one tackle and made a clearance or two…..that’s not the impact you need or want from a game changer regardless of age or experience.
As I said about Festy after the game, he along with Joz, Lawrence or Morrison was no worse and no better than anyone else so I’m not coating him or saying he wasn’t good enough but we can’t pretend he made any difference to the game than anyone else did.

Why do people insist on saying he could be this or could be that? His assets are perfectly suited to where he plays….attacking right back. Anywhere else and you’d see flaws in his game.

I think that’s pretty harsh. He hasn’t been any better but he’s certainly not been any worse than others.
However, I would like to think this may put an end to the “he’s quick so stick him for their forward” brigade.
    HES AN ATTACKING FULL BACK!
Further forward doesn’t suit his skill set and doesn’t suit how we are set up to play with rotating front 3/4, false 9 or inside forwards instead of wingers.

Possibly but an ‘attack’ may be deemed an attack simply by us putting a ball entry into a set zone such as this :-

So an attack my be an entry into zone 10/11/12 but a dangerous attack may be 13-18

Infuriating not to be able to watch this one on Rams TV. We'd normally be down there to see it live but have to stay home as my other half doesn't finish his covid isolation until midnight.
I will definitely NOT be watching Arsenal on Sky Sports instead.
These are the sort of things that are so infuriating with these TV deals. At the very worst it should only apply to clubs who are actually playing at the same time, surely?
This match is so important in the big scheme of football that it doesn't even get a mention on the BBC website, yet some idiot thought it was a good idea to include in the small print of the Sky deal. I think they are negotiated by people who have no idea what ordinary fans think.

Let’s be right here, however much you want Roos back in the team that’s one thing but to say the goal at Wembley was down to anything else but a complete calamity by the goalkeeper is just ridiculous.
Over a season It won’t matter who we have in goals, Roos, Marshall, Allsopp they are all average championship keepers and will all make average championship keeper mistakes, It happens, It will continue to happen that’s why they are in the championship.
I’m sure on the Luton forum they are wanting their defender out who gifted Lawrence the first goal or their goalie out who let Knight beat him at the near post, It happens.

It seems almost impossible that Rooney could be criticised for anything at the moment but I suspect that even if we had myriad attacking options we'd be still seeing similar problems. Not as bad but still there.
We play some good football around the box but as has been pointed out rarely inside the box.
Rooney clearly doesn't think that it's worth the risk of leaving ourselves exposed by even having even one of them bomb into the box. Even our good attacking play carries a defensive element, we need / want as many players as possible to be in position to and show a great desire to get back and  defend so we will very rarely over-commit going forward.
It's the sensible approach given our current predicament and as such this isn't a criticism of the job he's doing, but the approach isn't necessarily in place because of our predicament.
I think we just have to accept that even with better players we'd be a pretty cautious team a lot of the time because that's how the manager chooses to set us up. There's evidence for this in his team selections and placement of certain players
We're in a position that even if we do disagree with some of his ideas, some of his team selections and subs then we have to trust that he knows best because he sees these players every day.
Facts are that with even his limited options and without a points deductions we'd be comfortably mid table. Anything that isn't 'right' is a minor quibble, not something to focus on at this moment (but not something to ignore in the long term).
Perhaps with a better squad although we'd score more, even a minute shift towards a more loosely defined structure we'd undoubtedly concede more,  so at the minute the balance is probably as good as we can expect.
