(Just to avoid confusion, this was @BaaLocks’s post which Unlucky Alf responded to. )

Jimmy Carr probably shouldn’t have told this joke, even to his own fans who pay for exactly this; because it was inevitable that some people hearing it would think it was intended to be anti-Roma. I don’t think it was at all. It was a subtle joke about political correctness, prejudice (against Jews as well as Roma), about listener expectations and more, all brilliantly packed into about 3 sentences.

But these days it was bound to get him into trouble.

They’ve got some great talent, Williamson is so like Bobby Moore you don’t notice her half the time and Stanway and Hemp are world class. But the Germans and the French are better ‘man for man’ - Oberdorf and Cascarino in particular are fabulous and Malard makes Virgil VD look like a puppy dog. We won because Wiegman is the best manager and because she’s enforced the US work ethic that she learned under Anson Dorrance. It’s the same reason Liverpool and City are so dominant

The men have no chance of replicating the feat, because Southgate hasn’t got the same ability to pick a squad or manage a game

Fenway Group won’t let Liverpool accept any sponsorship from the gaming companies. Costs them 10s of MMs a year. The owner agrees with @whestonramand thinks it’s immoral.

DC has reset the culture of our club. Hope it stretches to doing the same

The government recently chose not to implement a ban following pressure from Premier League clubs, so we're unlikely to see any ban come in the near future.
It's a difficult one, morally you wish they wouldn't, yet it's difficult to turn down money.
It's not just gambling either, alcohol, pay day loans, credit cards, junk food, all can destroy lives and ideally wouldn't be plastered around on TV, radio, newspapers, sports grounds etc.

Ultimately there should be a ban on all gaming company advertising, so the sky bet logos should be removed. Plenty of people who get hooked aren’t feeding their kids and as the op points out even worse things happen

I agree that the timing of his decision may have preceded confirmation Clowes' PB status, and it's possible that he was unwilling to reconsider. He may also have felt it was in the best interests of the club too, financially. Or he may have realised Clowes was unlikely to match the new Contract that Billy BS had promised him. It was likely a combination of factors, but I just don't buy the idea that he couldn't face the stress of the challenge, even if it stands as a plausible reason.

There was a stat that she’d not made a single tackle all tournament. She leaves that to Millie Bright. I’ve suddenly become Williamson’s biggest fan. I’d heard if the likes of White and Bronze, but then I was like, who’s that girl with the captains armband on, I’ve never heard of her, but she must be pretty good to be the captain. Bright looks like a bit of a bruiser, but Williamson looks pretty petite by comparison. But to not have made a tackle, she must just be so clever to always be in the right place at the right time. Made some great Keogh-esque runs. She was brilliant. ❤️

Oxford did somewhat cleverly shift to man mark and make sure they cut down the passing lanes into him.
To be honest I'm not sure it was so much Bird didn't get a half yard enough on his marker and more that players around him didn't have the confidence to give him the ball. There were a fair few times I noticed where players just didn't back themselves to execute the pass into Bird when it was on but there wasn't huge room for error.
The thing is Bird of all the people in the squad you can pass to him under pressure and be confident we retain it. And that's perhaps what we need to get better at as a team because it isn't always going to be easy passes into wide open space. I suspect that will improve as the season goes.
The other thing is, when it's happening the two more advanced midfielders need to recognise this more and show for the ball more than they did on Saturday.

Credit to Sibley. He was hit hard twice just after coming on - I’m sure that was no coincidence. In the past he might have got himself into trouble - but he managed to stay under control.

But far better when the whistle goes for him to brush all that aside and shake hands with the oppo.

Just existing will cause salt levels to increase within fans bloodstreams this season.
As we know, too much salt is not healthy, so I feel it's important to raise awareness this season by highlighting fans that have dangerously high salt levels.
So let's kick it off with this Oxford United fan that hasn't taken losing today well.

Enjoyed that game, Beers before the game and beers after the game, That's what Saturdays are for for me, Sat 5 seats away from Amanda Solloway MP, She wanted her picture with me but I declined ?
1st 20 mins it was our game, Then nip n tuck, 2nd half we played more forward, Could/should have scored before we did, I can only see us getting better, Officials were decent...ish, This is league 1, Tackles were flying, He let some go but pulled up others that were...meh.
All in all we were the better team, Wildsmith not a lot to do, Back 4 protected him, Smith Laing is going to be a hand full, Well done Sibley for your harassing to get the ball for us to score, I'll sleep well tonight...happy days.

Thought we were good value for the 3 points today. We (almost) didn’t sink to they’re level with the cynical fouls (Davies was very late with that second half tackle!)
Very impressed with NML. Always looked to take on his man and cut inside. Cashin put in the performance of a seasoned, grizzled centre back. Collins worked tirelessly and Sibley’s game changing role from the bench was, in my opinion, a huge F you to being an after thought under the previous manager.
Also massive props to the lone Oxford fan who tried to enter the outdoor area of The Merlin looking to fight everyone after the game. Very brave and resilient performance!

Have finally returned to the nest, fully armed with excuses.
    1. They've changed the traffic management, so the home coaches leave first. Had a sneaky pint in the Yard, and the buses left just as we arrived.
Decided to wait out the traffic, and get a taxi back into town. Swift pint or three in Frankie and Bennys. Two ubers didnt turn up.
The Red Arrow was busier than usual due to the train strike, so we had to queue. Getting more beer from the shop didn't help our place in the queue, admittedly.
Pride day in Nottingham today, not a taxi or bus free to return home without encountering menacing hordes of biker types. Another few in the Six Barrels, then I somehow got cajoled into leading the march through town!
Arrived home, and burst into 'I am what i am' when the present Mrs Devil opened the door, with a requestioned rainbow boa draped around my neck. Not amused, at all.
Let her have her mini moan, then told her I wouldn't change a single thing about the day frankly, we were celebrating the fact there was even a game and a club to go and see.
Obviously, promised it wouldn't happen again, and will sleep on the settee tonight.

Yeah I’m with you on Allsop, would feel very confident if he was still here. Just felt it was a good start for Wildsmith and something to build on, if there is another keeper out there to bring in either to improve upon him or at the very least to provide competition we definitely still need it, I’m just a little more reassured after today that Wildsmith can do a job.
