Here are the highlights of the game against Man U.
It would appear we were the better side in the first half and should have scored more than one.  United seemed to get the upper hand in the second half without creating too many chances, but we then gave away a penalty (we must learn to commit fouls before the player gets into the box.........) and then a second through poor defending (overplaying at the back).  We had a great chance to equalize, didn't take it and within 10 seconds United had their third.
While it is difficult to make many conclusions on the basis of 10 mins highlights, Cruz Allen certainly looks to have a bit about him as a creative midfielder.  Lennon Wheeldon caused United a lot of problems on the first half and, while we didn't see much of Jack Thompson till the end, the United Commentary team praised his handling.  Incidentally, the commentators seemed to take pretty balanced view, and were often complimentary to us.  Staying on a non-partisan theme, they have a player called Shea Lacey who certainly looks like he has a very promising future.

Very sad news for Josh and his family, the support from his colleagues will be needed at a difficult time like this, sometimes there’s more to life than football. 😔
Perhaps something could be arranged by fans to show support at the home game? Applause at the 31st min or something?

Well the pejorative nature of the word might be a clue?
...unpleasantly proud and behaving as if you are more important than, or know more than, other people
It's not a trait we like in other fans and so perhaps some introspection would in fact be in order.

I don’t get how any Derby fan could dislike Wayne Rooney - he was offered a good opportunity in his first management job but he really did work incredibly hard for this club in its darkest hour and inherited a massive mess. He didn’t need it, he could’ve left a long time before he did and I understand that he probably felt like he needed a fresh start. He was played around with the whole Kirchner situation too, don’t forget, as there was obviously a lot more to that behind the scenes.
Always welcome back for me. I don’t think he’s a brilliant manager, but he’s definitely capable and I think people who know him well gravitate to him. Anyone with any ill-feeling toward him baffles me.

Here's a report  https://awayonsaturday.blogspot.com/2023/08/derby-county-u21s-3-1-mansfield-town.html?m=1 that was pasted on the Mansfield Website.  It is very complimentary of our lads, in particular Ben Radcliffe, who the author had already been impressed by, presumably when he was playing for Burton.

I've liked the little I've seen of Bardell and would be happy to see him battle with Rooney for right side of defence over the next few weeks while Ward/Wilson are out. Seems he can do RCB/RB rather than wingback from what I've seen

Stopped posting as no-one reading. We won 3-0, two clear penalties and the referee didn't hesitate in giving them.
The final scoreline was more reflective of the dominance of Derby. Jack was a spectator most of the game but came out with a great save when he needed to.
Good to see the under 18s finish the season strongly.
    Fapetu was my MOTM.

The attached article from The Athletic https://archive.ph/20211130171732/https://theathletic.com/2666370/2021/06/23/why-derbys-young-star-archie-brown-turned-down-a-new-deal-to-go-to-switzerland/ gives some background as to why Archie left.  The article doesn't actually mention any EFL restrictions.  While that doesn't mean they didn't exist, there is nothing in the article to suggest that Archie was anything other than keen to move on.  While  I used to love watching him play, I think even with  our Rams rose-tinted spectacles on it's a little generous to bracket him with Saka.
Eight of the starting 11 that night have gone on to have decent league careers - an amazing number.  Let's hope that it's not a one-off...........

    Hi all,
Thanks for all the kind words. They are always massively appreciated, and I will pass them on to the team.
Regards the 21s coverage, we’ve been extremely limited by the number of games we can show this season by Premier League scheduling conflicts & home team consent, and unfortunately the RamsTV team is smaller than ever, which all combined has meant it hasn’t been possible to broadcast many fixtures. Hopefully we’ll be able to show more next season.
Happy to answer any questions, as always.

    Cheers!

I agree in principle, as I enjoy the interviews, highlights etc.
I'm one of the lucky ones that hasn't actually watched a game on RamsTV, as I've been there, so no idea what it's like.
I miss the under 21s coverage, though, and hope that will be back soon.
    And I like Owen's suits!

While we are all in a good mood following the win at Exeter and over the next 2/3 weeks filling this website with our opinions of our next 3 performances, can I take this opportunity to have an early shout out for RAMS TV.
Over the last turbulent couple of years the one thing that has remained a quality constant has been Rams TV, providing us with a professional, objective assessment of our matches (take note Radio Derby). I remember Owen Bradley occasionally commentating on Radio Derby and thought how good and informative he was at the time. He has risen to new heights over the last couple of years and (despite a few dodgy suits) is perfect for Rams TV,  keeping his commentary succinct and to the point. Shaun Barker is the perfect foil and his professional insight is well worth listening to - I can  “see what he was trying to do there” being his catchphrase. Getting Owen to Rams TV a was probably the best decision Mel Morris made during his time in charge!
Obviously, they are the frontmen for a quality team in the background and well done to all the nameless helpers in producing a great service.
So personally, thank you Owen & Shaun for your fantastic work. Hopefully, every one else who appreciates your work will show that by “Loving” this post in a mark of respect, as I know you do read this website.

It's not a huge town but the support should be better than it is. It is an unassuming, small club which has a significant community involvement. They are not the 'runts of the litter', the 'dross' as suggested on this thread. Shame on those who posted those unkind comments.

Although i  have lived in Derbyshire for all of my adult life and I am a rams supporter I was born and brought up in Burton and I have a huge fondest for the place, I was born in a nursing home between the breweries and the marmite factory and I have always associated the 'smell' with home. My family still live nearby and though my first team is Derby I maintain an interest and a pride in the brewers. I look after my mum and I travel through Burton 4 days a week. It may well be looking run down at present, but show me a town centre which isn't. It's my home town and seeing it sneered at on this thread makes me sad. It isn't a joke at all and this negativity is nasty.

Ah, I see. Given that you are comparing  Calero, Guy, Thomas, Ball, Simmons, Brown, Stretton, Vernam, Zanzala, Wilson ETC with our current u21s, presumably the players you have quoted were were also rushed into the U23s, hence their subsequent failure.
Thank goodness the same didn't apply the likes of Bird (First Team Debut at 16), Knight (FTD 18), Sibley (FTD 17), Whittaker (FTD 18), Bogle (FTD 18), Lowe (FTD 19), Ebosele (FTD 18), Thomson (FTD 19) Cashin (FTD 20) who must all have had a much gentler entry into u23 football..............

In a moment of weakness during a boring meeting, I looked up what the local Leeds press had to say about last night's game and they gave the impression that their u21s had given a performance that would have left the 1970 Brazilians open-mouthed in admiration.  The highlights tell a slightly different story - they took their chances, we didn't and we gave a couple of goals away.  The stats on Soccerway (or was it Flashscore?) also suggest that it was a fairly even game, but then of course you prove anything with stats.
Kido Taylor-Hart definitely looks a prospect, somewhat reminiscent of Ebiowe.  Let's hope we can get him signed up permanently.  Overall, I suspect that the Alfreton game will be much more beneficial to our lads with regard to their development, not because we won, but because of the physical battle that it seemingly involved.
