  1. He had 1 or 2 decent moments, but nothing exceptional. Can’t say I’m overly surprised if he’d rather try and find a first team opportunity.

    Don’t want McDonald either like.

I would think we picked up some valuable learning from last night’s game. More so than had we steamrollered them.

Would rather lose this one, learn a few things, and then beat Oxford than the other way around.

    A few observations:

I thought Wildsmith and Oduroh had decent games. Not sure why anyone would think Wildsmith was the worst performer myself, but hey-ho, opinions and all that. Oduroh had that one moment where he fell over, but other than that didn’t do much wrong. His smaller stature doesn’t seem to be that much of a limitation, so far at least.

Sometimes we’re quite slow in transition. Perhaps it was the weather but against a team like Stevenage I’d have thought quick breaks would cause them most problems. Most of the time though we overplayed getting out from the back and struggled to penetrate their massed ranks when we’d given them time to get back into position.

Rustiness/Sloppiness - very evident that we’re probably a couple of weeks behind other teams. Plenty of individual mistakes last night. These will be eradicated obviously but highlights the risk, with only one friendly left, that this may overhang into the season proper.

Fozzy - started again. Hard to believe he’d be this involved if a new contract wasn’t looking extremely likely. That said, I’ve liked the look of Roberts so far so hopefully we’ll have options there.

Don’t know if you’ve watched Rosenior’s interview but he highlighted several things you’ve said, and said we have organised another friendly too - which should be announced today.

Didn't do a lot for me. Looked lightweight.

If we are going with wingers they need to be strong as fullbacks at this level are hackers

    He’s 19 and likely for the u21s.

Done a good job there of outing yourself for not having watched league one in about 15 years though.

Don't know much about him but we are stacked though the centre of the pitch but have few options outwide. Hopefully he will get a chance to prove himself tonight.

    He’s a winger.

Definitely see your point - there’s no real way of judging if young players are ready when they’re just playing alongside other youngsters / reserves. The side probably won’t be good enough, with the young players struggling to make an impact. But if you instead play the odd young player within a majority first choice team, then you can see if they’re capable of fitting in at that level. Playing with better players can often see younger players raise their game, and prove they’re ready to step up. It would certainly be interesting to see while we have the chance, you’re right.

But then, I guess there’s also the argument that we need to build partnerships between the new signings, hence why Rosenior might want to keep the first choice team together, so they get used to playing with each other. I mean, pre-season is ultimately about fitness, and I think that’s how Liam views it, based on the comments I’ve heard from him.

Get that point of view, but just as a devil’s advocate… the best will still shine through, even if it’s average in a poor display because of the calibre of teammates. Add to that the staff see them every day training and have done for years… I’m sure they have a good idea.

This lad's career trajectory is absolutely bonkers. Appeared to have it all not so long ago. A case of simply not being good enough and trading on reputation or something else?

Probably both. If he was good enough he’d have still made more of himself than he has so far.

Thought I’d check the Kemar Roofe thread, and the conversation seems to be about employer NIC, Paul Kitson and Mark Pembridge. That’s probably a good indicator of how likely it is we’ll actually sign Kemar Roofe.

Probably because the rumour got quashed a few hours after the initial story. Got to fill the thread with something.

I thought he had left Nice and was a free agent now?

He turned down a contract at United to go there as he was promised first team football that never transpired, apparently.

Yes, believe he is a free agent now. Vieira took him to Nice if I remember right, then they changed manager.

    what position does he play?

Striker, played as a number 9 at Man Utd youth teams, but can play wide too.

Wouldn't surprise me if the EFL are yet again making stuff up as they go along. Wigan must have signed at least 5 players who all cost transfer fees within the 12 months following them coming out of administration, but the EFL won't allow us to spend a penny ... Yep, sounds about right ?‍♂️

Guess it’s the business plan put forward. Maybe their owner was putting more money in? No idea but would make sense that the business plans aren’t identical.

We dont need anymore. A squad of 22 which includes a few youngsters and an ability to use some players in a variety of positions (Sibley, Knight, McGoldrick, young lad from Brighton.

What I like is that we have a squad which offers bite in midfield as well as guile. We also have out and out wideman but also those who can tuck in.

Very very pleased. All we need imo is Forsyth to sign on as we do need LB Cover

Disagree. If NML or Barkhuizen get injured we don’t have any backup at all. If Collins gets injured we only have Stretton, for example. Now, how many permanents is a different question because some of these can be loans for sure.

Cambridge away or Oxford away I'm looking at just because I have friends there

They’re a tad further away which is a start, but Cambridge’s ground is really small so could be tough if we are going well. Oxford’s a little bigger so again, depends on how we are doing I would say.

Honest question. Years ago I went to a few away games and it was pretty easy to get a ticket. If you don't want the membership and only really want to go to one or two away games how easy is it nowadays?

Previously, fine. This year? Depends on the ground. Sheffield Wednesday? Should be fine. MK Dons? Fine. Burton? No chance.

6 goals in 323 games. Oh Jesus - he will fit right in with us.

Even with players going, this isn’t what we need.

I know the cliche of don’t write a player off but he’s literally scored no goals anywhere which as a midfielder is poor. He makes Jason Knight look prolific.

This is a strange one for me.

He’s a holding midfielder. What a weird thing to complain about. Do you complain about strikers without good clean sheets or goalkeepers who can’t head the ball?

Do we think CKR could be interested in a role with U23’s as over age coach/player and emergency player if needed.

Think it was common in the PL2/U23’s such as McShane for Manu I think.

CKR’s kid is in Burton’s academy and he’s put some money into their set up there. Person who told me thought he’d be going there - admittedly this was several months ago. Wouldn’t have shocked me at the time.
