To be fair, whether he dropped it or not, I think we were second best in that game.
you could blame it Lampard not setting up right, but Villa were on fire at that time, and we were always the underdogs in that game.
maybe we could’ve held on for a win if he hadn’t have dropped it, and we’d got a bit of luck along the way. But we wouldn’t really have deserved it.
not like against QPR, where we were clearly the better team from start to finish. That one you can lay squarely at the feet of one individual mistake... (I’m obviously referring to not starting Bryson, stupid mcclaren).

But I don't want to see him on the wing I want to see us play through midfield with some attacking intent. It says more about the way we are set up than anything, no place for an attacking midfielder in our team!
And as for him not showing it in training, I am sure the current players aren't being coached to be so negative on the pitch but they keep doing it and aren't being dropped.
Personally I would like us to take the hand brake off and start playing to win. This solid defensive approach is hardly working lately and you can just see the confidence draining out of all the players, not just Louie.

This time last year most people were saying build the team around Sibley. This year we've swapped and changed formations that many times, yet Rooney still can't get him in the team.
He's one of the most direct forward playing players that we have at the club (something Rooney keeps saying that we're lacking) and the only one that consistently wants to have a shot on target.
Let him get a red card, at least he shows some fight in his belly whenever he puts the shirt on.
At the moment for me, it looks like bad management with a very promising player.

Would be nice but can’t see them leaving him on long enough for it to happen.
He’s like Suarez, when things aren’t going his way he will kick and scream and do anything to con the ref.

I do feel for Bess. Not as if he’s trying to not play well, his confidence clearly smashed like some of his deliveries. This lead now bringing the curtain down on the tour as being anything like a success.

I hate ducking Rotherham. Probably scored in the last few seconds of all the time that was added for them rolling around feigning injury every time someone breathes on them.
Sheffield Wednesday such naivety- reminds me of us!

    Great news for Tomori!
I wonder if the Italian influence could take his game to the next level? He always had the physical attributes and seemed to have a great attitude as well. Add in some defensive know-how in the style of Nesta, Maldini, etc then England could have a top class centre back option!
Would be very happy to see that happen

It is interesting that we only really threatened Forest for the last 10 minutes or so, i.e. after Sibley had come on, and, curiously, after Waghorn had gone off. One wonders if we had started the match the way we finished it what scoreline we could have achieved? For me, there has been a lot of talk about there not being room in this team for Sibley. Well actually, there is. It is the place occupied by Waghorn. ? And no, we shouldn't be keeping Waggy in for his free kicks, because they have been poor for several matches. And his last corner hit the side netting at a height of about 2 feet. Time to make way for the Sibbers!

Didn’t make any rash/ throat high tackles that people seem to think he’s capable of on here.
Jozwiak is offering nothing. Needs to play. Creativity lacking, give him a chance!!

True story. He's carried the team in recent weeks but in all honesty I think we've just run out of puff. Spending the thick end of a year in a bubble, it was never going to end well and finishing that process with series in India and Oz is just madness. It's really horrible seeing all the progress made being undone by a combination of fatigue, poor team selections and Indian umpires. It seems to me that greed has trumped good sense but in fairness, the cricket has helped to ease the tedium of lockdown.

I honestly have no idea what goes through the mind of a mediocre player under these circumstances. He has fielded close in for the Indian innings so he will have seen the turn and variable bounce; he comes in in the first over with nothing on the board and with his team trailing by 30 something in a low scoring match in the fifth session of the match.
And he thinks playing that shot is a good idea?

This may seem a radical team selection but I think I agree. There was never any point in 3 quicks anyway and Archer is showing more and more that might just be a waste of space. Drop him, Broad and Anderson and Bairstow as well (tell him not to come back until he can play properly). If we want some better batting and a bit of medium pace, pick Woakes.
Not sure who's available for the next one. Anyone going home or coming back?

I’m not saying they are all batting well. And there will be outliers of course. But Pope’s not playing the wrong line. He’s assuming a ball with significant revs on it is going to turn. As it did last ball and the one before. The consistency is coming from the Indian spinners. The variation is coming mostly from the pitch. Root plays spin as well as anyone - so does Pope in fact - and half the time he’s having to guess what the pitch will do
the Indian commentators are massively down playing the effect of the pitch and the English are too PC to really say what they think

It's easy to be mardy when we look like losing, but surely there will be an enquiry into this wicket? It isn't a five day test wicket, that's for sure!

I was wrong, was going over, didn't look like it live or on the replay. It was an awful decision by Bairstow.
    Bowled next ball ?‍♂️
Bairstow has to be done now in the test team.

Not at all, the partner from the club's auditors took the EFL's "expert" on this point to the cleaners. He was an academic with very little experience in the real world and the only finding against the club was that the written explanation in the accounts of how the amortisation had been applied could have been clearer, not that the policy was against the rules.
The EFL are appealing this when they should be re-drafting their rules if they don't like what clubs are able to do within the current ones.
They were embarrassed because they had to admit they had misunderstood the full ramifications of the club's accounting policy and this emerged in the hearing. Not able to take that on the chin, obviously they allege they were misled by our accounts. Cannot see how this gets overturned, but we are dealing with the EFL.....

Have to say I share the concerns about our openers. If we had even a vague facsimile of Strauss and Cook in their pomp then we'd be the number 1 team on the planet but too often our middle order is exposed far too early.
Equally, I do occasionally wonder about our selectors. I really can't fathom their thought processes sometimes, though I concede that they'd obviously know a deal more than I do about what is required. That said, I'd love to hear the thinking behind some of their calls so I could at least understand what the idea was.
A last thought is for the umpiring in this series. Sour grapes no doubt, but some of it has been nothing short of disgraceful. I grow tired of there being one rule for India and another altogether for everyone else.

There's a chance that Rooney the manager wouldn't have played Martin though, not enough energy, not enough nastiness and wouldn't hold or win the ball in the same situations.
I think Martin would struggle with the current system tbh, and be no better than Gregory has been.

Martin could flick it round corners with his first touch, for teammates to run into.
If he had to hold it up, he was very good at winning a free kick.
CKR isn't on the same level when it comes to the one touch stuff, although possibly he's not had the chance to show it, but he's streets ahead at bringing the ball under control then releasing the pass.
Different skill-sets, different players, different systems, but it's beyond argument that Colin suits us better at this moment.
It's not either/or, just different players suit different systems.
    Surely deserves another year?
