I'm really excited to see what PW can do for us back in the champ with no restrictions. If you're a Prem manager with a potential young gem, PW is just the man you'd want to send them out on loan to. How he is as a person and a manager, the togetherness he's created with our team, add into that our facilities and attendances we'll attract some good young players this summer.

Looking at just the league table its been an amazing year by any reckoning. Amassing 92 points, securing a record number of away wins etc. Pompey had to come up with something pretty special to beat that. And yet, it seems weird how there is still a feeling that there were so many unnecessary points that we seemed to drop. Obviously, that's just the way it goes and you can't win every game but in amongst the excellent wins, there were definitely a decent number of soft points dropped.
Just glancing down the results list - failure to see a poor Cambridge off at home, conceding a gutting late equaliser vs Pompey, really poor official decisions at Bolton, drawing at Cheltenham who hadn't scored in 12 games, conceding a 98th minute penalty equaliser against bloody Wycombe, the late collapse at home against Peterborough from leading the game at 84 mins to losing it, chucking away a lead at home to Charlton to leave empty handed, conceding 87th minute equaliser against Shrewsbury at home. You then realise how many points we could have actually ended up with - well North of 100 which would have been truly remarkable by any means !! 😃

Sure, there were times when I'd loved to have seen a bit more swagger and flair but by any standards, the relentless points accumulation was hugely impressive, and ultimately it simply broke the spirit of the chasing pack. PW and the lads earned that.

I still have a big smile on my face and remember listening to a few middle aged men coming out of the Lincoln City ground after a well earned 0-0 away point.

Giving it “Well that’s top 2 gone, we will be lucky to make top 6……..” and then having to hold my tongue listening to another middle aged man in the row behind me throughout the final game against Carlisle Utd moan and groan with one of his best comments being “Derby your bl00dy rubbish get into these” as our players held their positions and controlled the game into another 2-0 win and victory.
I hope he left 10 minutes early to beat the traffic and moan all the way home before moaning at his wife and kids because Derby had the audacity to get promoted!
If you can’t enjoy the good times what’s the point…..a good away point at Lincoln City perhaps!!!!

I don’t think social media speculation should hasten the publication of the retained list. The club will release the list when they’re good and ready. Getting the timing right for the players and the club is far more important than satisfying any impatience from the supporters.

Why haven't we published the list yet?
    1. PW said a few months back that no new contracts would be offered until after the season.
    2. Following the last game the lads had a couple of days on the razz and then went to Vegas for more razzing. Now they are back PW can inform, face to face, those who are to be let go and start negotiations with the agents of players he wants to keep.

Is it really any surprise we haven't published the list yet?

I don't know the answer, but if I were to guess. It would probably down to the fact that Derby (due to the restrictions of the last few years) have a bigger task of patching up a team that have been promoted with a bunch of mercenaries.
Loans, freebies and a good few now out of contract.
PW and the team now need to balance what they have v what they want. Then decide who to release, without knowing who they can get to replace them in certain positions.
I have no doubt they will have a wish list, but it will be just that a wish, because we know nothing rarely goes to plan.
I would imagine that task is bigger than most stable clubs.
    Just my opinion.

FlyBritishMidland reacted to Chesterfield_Ram in Dajaune Brown
To back up my point about not rushing Brown, I've done a bit of research into players stepping up from the National League into the EFL.
To start on a rather negative point, there are a number of forwards to step up into L1 who never meet the standards of the level in the last couple of seasons.
Kabonga Tshimanga - 24 goals in 27 games followed by 7 goals in 17 games before stepping up into L1. 22 games without scoring in L1 for Peterborough and Fleetwood.
    Matt Lowe - 11 in 41 before stepping up. 0 in 20 games (L1) and 0 in 23 games (L2) since.
    Josh Walker - 10 in 32 followed by 10 in 24 before stepping up. 2 in 16 (L1) and 1 in 16 (L2) since.
There have been some players in this period who have made the step up.
Ephron Mason-Clark left Barnet for Peterborough after scoring 6 in 39 in the NL. He followed on from this by scoring 9 in 39 before taking an extra step developmentally this season scoring 14 and setting up countless other goals.
Rúben Rodrigues scored 18 in 43 for Notts County before joining Oxford this year scoring 9 in 44.
Joe Taylor also made the step up, but took e seasons before reaching double figures in L1 this year for Lincoln.
Other than these I can find many to make the step up to L1 directly, which should give an indication (to fans wanting Brown in the Championship next year) as to how big a step up it is and the need to move up through the leagues gradually.
Looking at the numbers it appears a L2 loan would be most beneficial for Dajaune next season. Potentially a loan to Notts County if they end up selling Langstaff.

Legs gone, but heart hasn’t gone. It’s a shame he has a job as a coach already with Villa as if he is staying, I think he could be of good use to us. He’s been a consistent player all his career and won a number of promotions, he has the mentality that’s needed, it’s just the physicality is going. For what it’s worth I think he’s still been a good captain for us, he’s enjoying the good times, but was equally accountable when things weren’t so good earlier in the season.

His legs might have gone, that’s something we all saw at times this season, but in what way has his heart gone? If you know of a physical ailment that hasn’t been made public please share. If you mean his passion and commitment I think he’s shown plenty of that this season despite his ageing legs, scored key goals, made assists, accepted a reduced role at the back end of the season and still showed leadership to his colleagues from the bench and on the training ground. Baffles me the sticks people invent to beat people with.

    This is one of those nonsense myths around Warne that some people just won’t drop. Just because the press or questionable football accounts on social media link us with a player doesn’t mean we’ll sign them. Last year we signed players from the following clubs;
    Arsenal
    Blackpool
    Bristol City
    Cardiff City
    Charlton
    Coventry
    Hull
    Luton
    Notts Forest
    Peterborough
    Rotherham
    Stoke
    Sunderland
    Wigan
The January window the season before we signed players from Norwich and Spurs. We’ve been told the club is looking at players across Europe, yet still some people want to peddle the myth that we only sign Rotherham cast offs 🙄

Let’s assume he hasn’t come through our academy and is a random young striker who’s had a good 3-4 months.  Would we really be suggesting we sign him and throw him in?  Would we really by looking at him thinking a Prem club will sign him for 8 figures in the summer?  Probably not.
@Chesterfield_Ram has given some good stats about other National League strikers who’ve scored hat loads at that level, but not so much in L1 or L2.  It’s about developing him at the right pace and not rushing him too soon.  I think the best next step is to send him on loan to L1 with the option to recall in January.

On top of this, what are your thoughts on becoming the villains of the league? It's a title we know all too well after our financial troubles, but are thankfully starting to shift now. The victim complex, appointing Clattenburg, financial misdeeds etc. all with an owner who doesn't seem like the most likeable chap, even taking away all the accusations and charges- everything aside, he's a spoiled loser who boots TVs when something happens he doesn't like.
A lot of Forest fans found our situation very funny, and were quick to jump on the high horse about clubs behaving badly. Now the shoe's on the other foot, it's curious to see many Forest fans take up the same positions they mocked us for at the time: ''the league's corrupt'', ''it's all unfair'' yada yada yada
To me: you've got a dodgy owner who spaffed millions up the wall for a squad who only just scraped to safety. PL survival is always worth celebrating, but are the general circumstances otherwise?

Not too manly to say I shed a tear watching Birdy's last interview as a Ram. I clearly lovely, respectful, hardworking, talented kid who we will miss. I'm sure the stats are out there but I always felt our dips in form coincided with his injuries, particularly last season.
Hope he uses his next step as a springboard on to bigger and better things (i.e. we re-sign him when we are in the prem).

I wonder if we might enter our U21’s into this next season?  Now we’re in the Championship it means we can give our youngsters a taste of competitive football against experienced teams and playing in bigger grounds.  It would help their development so that, hopefully, they can be nearer to the 1st team squad in 25/26.
Reading the Dajaune Brown thread I’m torn between keeping him and loaning out in the 2nd half of the season or a loan in the first half with a recall in January.  If we enter this it could give the best of both worlds.  He can be part of the 1st team squad when needed - especially as we’ll need 9 subs - and get competitive football against L1 and L2 teams - if that’s possible.  We can then take a view in January depending on his progress.
