From a lifelong Ram exiled in Yorkshire, please please please let Southampton beat Leeds in the play off final tomorrow.
It would absolutely make my day.

Conners with the big early wicket of Cameron Bancroft. Good to see him back in the team.

My father's first pub was in St Annes Well Road, Nottingham, in 1966.
Nothing in Derby, then or now, comes close to that. Some of you people with your "Derby's a shi**ole" nonsense haven't seen a real shi**ole.

I was in the Blessington Carriage last BH weekend ( not my choice and yes it’s still there) and it was rammed full of students as it always . Chatting to a few they like Derby as it’s friendly and chilled , has plenty of small bars and places like the Flowerpot and Hairy dog for bands etc. For a “big night out they go to Sheffield as it’s a similar vibe just more places to go. When I said Nottingham they said unless a band was on at Rock City they don’t go as find it intimidating , full of nob heads looking for  a fight . I worked in and around Notts for 20 odd years selling building materials and it has some nice surrounding areas but places like the Meadow’s , Hyson Green etc are far more of a S hole than any part of Derby . I take it you haven’t been to Derby for a while , if you stay away from the Derbion there is plenty to see and do  lots of investment going on. The old Ranbys being redeveloped , The Guildhall and indoor market place up graded. Museum of making , Electric Daisy Garden that has a bar at the bottom of Sadler Gate . A lot of good buildings still stand you just have to look up to see them above the shop fronts .
Young peoples night life not my thing anymore but a lot of the old bars and clubs like the Blue note are still there  .
Come across sometime and have a beer be happy to show you around.  , don’t stay in Notts too long or you might start growing that 6th finger 😉

He ran rings around our midfield when Crewe knocked us out the cup… he looked brilliant on that game. An incredibly small sample but he looked better than anything we had in the middle that game.

Wonder why it didn’t work out at Exeter

That's a very good post. You're absolutely right that attitudes and trends in town planning and towards the built environment change through the years. I'd say my biggest gripe with planners and conservation officers in Derby historically is their failure to protect and preserve the town's history. I was in Shrewsbury yesterday and the old heart of that place looks pretty much how Derby should look today. I suppose one of the main reasons they have been able to preserve so much of their heritage is money. Perhaps more of the locally generated wealth has stayed in Shrewsbury due to its relative isolation compared to Derby? They've never suffered industrial decline and have undoubtedly benefited from being more aligned to successive governments of the day than Derby has. Pinning down the real reasons for such differences is a bigger task than we are capable of on this forum, but you're right that it can't solely be attributed to more imaginative and sensitive town planning.

Why don’t we want both? Spectacularly wealthy owners who run the club responsibly but with ambition?

Alan went to Shelton Lock school. We had both him and Mickey Quinn on our books at the same time (briefly) when we were starting to struggle in the old Division 1, 1978. By the time we were in the relegation zone in 1979, they'd both been released under Tommy Docherty.

Saw one of those suggestion articles saying we should go for Darlow on loan, not getting a sniff at Leeds, not sure he ever recovered from THAT 5-0 though 🐏

Derby were a far bigger club than West Ham from the latter's first appearance in the Football League in 1920 until Derby's decline in the 1950s, and it wasn't until West Ham moved to their taxpayer-funded stadium in 2017 that they exceeded Derby's record average attendance of 37,000. Whenever we were at the same level between 1969 and 2002, I regarded us as similar sized clubs, with one being more successful in knock-out competitions but never good enough to even get close to winning a league title (they have ONE top 4 finish to their credit compared to our FIFTEEN, which of course includes 2 league titles).
They've moved ahead of us in recent years thanks entirely to their free stadium and the emergence of London as a World Class City and thus a magnet for wealthy foreign investors, but until they win a league title, they're 'all mouth and trousers'.

Everton and Villa . More famous players. Norwich and Brighton.  West Ham have spent nigh on 40 years in Championship level football and the same amount arsing around the tale end of Div 1 as it was.  Before that they spent 2 years playing in the Southern League.
Pass the Dutchie matey it's a good un.

Derby have never been a similar size to West Ham. We're a similar size club to West Brom, Norwich and Coventry City. Not West Ham who are and always have been a top 10 sized club in this country.

Hair Dog is the old Flamingo & Firkin pub on Beckett St. They put bands on and is generally an alternative vibe
Electric Daisy Garden is a lovely plot that they have established at the bottom of Sadler Gate on the site of the (now demolished) Princes Supermarket. It's a hippy-ish green endeavour - an actual city garden with lots of plants/fruit/veg being grown and food trucks / bar
Popworld is a terrible chain night club in the old Friary on Friargate (used to be It's A Scream)
See also Dubrek - a community venue/rehearsal room/bar/recording studio on Bridge Street in one of the old Uni  bars. Absolutely thriving
And of course the Bustler Market is now well established in the old Chocolate Factory on John Street
At Xmas they had a brilliant Nordic Ski Lodge set up on the Market Place too
So much amazing new stuff going on in Derby if people only bother to engage

My WHU  supporting mate would say they are a lot bigger now having a 62k seat stadium in fact bigger than most London clubs potentially in the near future. When they played at the Boleyn yes very much a similar size.
