Why mention it at all if it was so meaningless? Seems to me like he’s trying to brag about the approaches he’s made. I don’t trust his character one iota.

He was asked a question and responded that’s all

So it appears he exaggerated the talks with Cardiff. Wonder what else he could have exaggerated...the funds available? The links to Calderon? This is all starting to feel very Sheikh Khaled to me. Loads of talks with other clubs but nothing actually came of them, possibly because they didn’t see him as viable. But Mel is so desperate to sell us that it seems he’ll accept literally any offer thrown his way, even if others wouldn’t go near them with a barge pole...

What exaggeration ? All he said was that he has spoken to them which Cardiff confirmed. He made no other claim , never said he even entered into meaningful discussions .

The Cardiff chairman has dismissed that any prevalent talks held place with Alonso.

When asked for a NDA and a proof of funds from Alonso, he failed to come up trumps.

The quote is “we spoke to “ which doesn’t really say entered into discussions. Maybe the response from Cardiff meant he wasn’t inclined to take it further hence no more talks ? You would have thought that he has entered into an NDA with Mel and shown proof of funds. Seems a non story to me

Only been around about 270years. They own most of the land around Spondon and surrounding area.

Yes iF I recall correctly DCFC have never owned the land always been in a very long lease with a “peppercorn “ (low rent). DCFC own the buildings but with the land being on green belt with very strict planning applied ( as Mel has found out ) this would be of no use or value to any “asset strippers” as it can only be used as a training ground or agricultural use. I suppose they could sell the buildings and rent the training facilities but the returns wouldn’t be worth the bother

Just noticed Roverum are playing both Tuesday (QPR) and Thursday (Coventry) this week. Got to be tough ask..

Do you use the squad and save some from the first game to help the second? (Weekening first game team)

    Or..

Just go one game at a time with best available, hope to win it and deal with fall out hoping for a draw in the second?

As these are both games amongst the easier they have left neither are in the “free hit” category. They need to win both.

They don’t really have a “squad” , they have a small pool of players . It seems very possible the players will be fatigued and pick up injuries. This will be the test for them with so many games in a short space of time

Since he's 29, had 5 fights as a professional boxer and is a sports agent of a bunch of small time players it's reasonable to assume he himself doesn't have the personal wealth to run the club and I've read reports in the news to back this up. He's also stated that he doesn't take money from family but even the family's wealth (whilst relatively substantial) doesn't seem enough to really run the club for a long period of time. One of the questions that needs to be answered is who is backing him? He's denying there are other backers but there must be.

so did BZI and look at how that turned out...

Just an opinion then. Fair enough

So today we need Stoke to beat Birmingham, Bournemouth to beat Coventry, Huddersfield and Rotherham to draw, QPR to beat Sheff Wed and of course the rams to do the job against Norwich.

Hudds to either draw or win. Keep Rotherham down

This just strikes me as ridiculous (as do your previous posts on this topic), of course as fans of the club and putting our hard earned cash into the club we have the right and obligation to hold the ownership to account if they are failing in their jobs. Football club owners in reality are pretty close to being custodians, they are owners of long standing institutions with an enormous role in local communities. This kind of attitude would have seen the 3 amigos hammer the nails in Derby's coffin over a decade ago when it took a combination of local reporters, the rams trust, and significant fan pressure to try and force those crooks out the club.

No-one likes to wallow in misery- I hope Alonso comes in, does a fantastic job gets us to the promised land and makes us a force again. As a Derby county fan who wouldn't want that? Honestly, one of the best days I've had since my dad passing away a few years ago was going with my mum down to Wembley to cheer us on- why wouldn't I or any other Derby fan want to have those memories again?

The thing that worries me (and others) is that he's got 0 evidence to back any of this up, he doesn't have the money to run the club himself, his companies are basically shells and he's already had a run in with a club in this division the fans of which are largely thankful he's left them alone. I hope i am proven wrong, just like I hope I am proven wrong about Wayne's management but atm there is nothing to show beyond a press release and interviews that anyone with half a brain could do that to show he's not going to be a nightmare for us.

How do you know what money he and his backers have or have not got ? Do you have any actual evidence or just hunch or opinion ? Not having a go , a serious question as I cannot find anything either way.
The Spanish article I read covered the shell companies saying they are new and set up ready to go.
If the price is 50 mill he must have shown proof of funds to Mel and the EFL plus the ability to fund for 2 years ?
Hopefully the source of those funds ( if they do exist ) are ethical and sustainable and not from nefarious activities like the ones alleged by the owner of a neighbouring club.

From some very quick scanning of articles it seemed as though he came in as an advisor for Chansiri, but was secretly trying to work his way into fans affections by immersing himself in the club on social media. Then he made a lowball (£30m) offer to buy the club from Chansiri and was told to do one.

Seems like he's doing a more straightforward tactic this time.

Couple of key points I'd like to know more about:

Is he a face of a consortium? (Probably)

If so, who are they and where are they getting this 'debt free' money from as reported?

Is the Matt Southall guy involved at all?

Do we assume that this is the only bidder now? Is the Abu Dhabi deal completely dead? Are other bidders interested after rumours of US investment etc. over the last couple of months?

Will Mel keep some control to make sure that the new owners don't asset strip the club?

Low ball for Wednesday ? sounds a fair offer for a club with a decrepit stadium and very few playing assets ( according to Owls fans )

Prospective new Derby owner Erik Alonso is facing questions from the EFL over the source of his funds before a proposed takeover can be signed off. Great news according to The Daily Mail. This is from paper talk on Skysports website.

Pity the EFL weren’t so hot finding out where the funding comes from one of our neighbouring clubs .........or perhaps they thought EFL HQ would get burnt down if they asked too many questions ?

He's no longer at the club, it'll just be a short term contract until the end of the season. He hasn't found a club since he left Derby in the summer. He did trial at Forest, but obviously wasn't successful.

Think he is on loan from Alfreton Town

All I have to say is I wish I had a job as steady (and as well paid) as McClaren, he's stealing living as far as I'm concerned.

Do you know what he actually does for his money ?  I don’t so I couldn’t comment on whether he is earning it or not.
For all we know he might be doing loads in the background or he might be strolling around Costa Del Boro.

He wouldn't? He would be aware its  probably a great way to lose money hand over fist... So it's either a vanity project or he plans to asset strip or resell quickly as a reserve plan ?

What assets can he strip to make more than the reported  50mill price tag ? Can’t be the stadium if that’s included in the sale as it’s protected as a community asset as I recall . To resell surely he would have to add value or probably make a loss.

I am also very concerned about these things (and others). I guess all we can hope is that most won't impact on the Club and that the EFL test includes checking that there's finance available to run the Club...

They have to show they have funds to run the club for at least 2 seasons

Before putting Brian Clough on a Tory vs Labour moral pedestal, his views towards Justin Fashanu sexuality and his flexible socialist  attitude when taking a bung make uncomfortable reading. I haven’t got a problem with Brian Clough whatsoever and still consider him a hero but in today’s cancel culture society it’s remarkable how we find a way to excuse the misdemeanours of those we love and weaponise what we can against those we dislike. Michael Jackson, David Bowie and John Peel seemingly get a free pass when it comes to being cancelled whilst poor old Leon Brittan’s family were utterly hounded with what turned out to be a smear campaign.

What I do think is fair is that these questions are raised with Alonso as it’s not unreasonable for fans to want to know about his views on such things. I can’t say I’m particularly thrilled if he has ‘Far’ right views but I find the views of the ‘Far’ left as equally deplorable and neo liberal cancel everybody and everything bunch the worst of the lot. This probably means the chances of us finding a perfect custodian of the club as I would like it pretty remote.

David Bowie ? He was one who helped out ( as in point out ) Jonathon King as as an abuser

How dare you..... us 29 year olds are the best of the best and if someone would just give us a chance to run a football club we would show you all up.

Lol Sunderland's Chairman is 18 so you are elderly to him ?
