    Good post, well made points.
I disagree, yes, it's a rum hand he was dealt but he's then played it pretty badly and the sheer lack of belief in the team says to me he's not gonna make it here.
For me, I want him gone after Saturday even if we stay up, but it's a point for discussion.

This just about sums it up. Either or for me, doesn't make a huge difference. Both can be great on their day, but can chuck the odd howler. I think we've more important things to be worried about.

I don't know what @Roymac reasons are, but I agree that Cocu had to go and Rooney, at the moment, deserves to stay. I'll offer you some reasons:
Comparing win rate is unfair given that one had a season and a quarter and one has had half a season. David Lowe had a 100% win record when he took over for the Man U semi final a few years ago. Does it make him the best DCFC manager ever?
Cocu had to go because while he started ok, and only ok, the end of last season / start of this season's form was horrendous. The players clearly weren't buying it. We were bottom of the table. The football was dire. It was the right decision.
Under Rooney, the initial bounce saw us win games and move up the table. The last 16 game or so have been awful. The football is terrible and the players look shot and devoid of, frankly, anything.
The only two things Rooney has in his corner at the moment are that he has removed a team from the bottom and we might yet stay up. The second, which is important, is that Cocu bought in his own coaching team while Rooney has had to deal with having Rosenior, Given and Walker foisted upon him, which has proven to be a failed project. Two bits of mitigation which I'd say just about, and only just, keep Rooney afloat.
If we stay up, he deserves a crack at it again next season but only with the caveat of him having his own team, with some proper experience, around him.  If we start with the same coaching setup next year, forget it.
If we go down, he's toast as far as I'm concerned as he's failed in his remit, just like Cocu was doing.

Roos is a decent keeper. You won’t find a better no.2 in the league. If Derby fans hadn’t ruined his confidence, he could be even better. Lampard and our negativity are more to blame at Wembley than Roos. Glad he’s doing well.

People are being a bit over-sensitive here. Rooney was asked about Sibley specifically and answered. He didn’t ‘single him out’.
He’s right to as well if he knows what Sibley can produce but isn’t doing so in training or when he comes on.
Today he’s had 20 mins and was anonymous as anyone else other than missing a good chance from a corner. If you’re a sub you’ve got to go on and do something different, otherwise there’s no point going on.

I’m of the opinion that he’s due a couple of starts because those starting ahead of him aren’t delivering. But if the manager thinks he will respond to a kick up the backside, then time will tell if he’s right.

Enjoying the optimism on here, but I still think we're right in the middle of a relegation dogfight. Our form is good, but it's very tight margins at 1-0s. We're seeing a bit of luck at the moment (ref Andre's goal) that we weren't seeing in our poor run. These things can turn one way or another very quickly. Only a couple of weeks ago everyone was breathing a sight of relief and suddenly we found ourselves back in the bottom three.
What gives me confidence is I think Rooney is doing really well and we've been bolstered by the recent loan signings, who are already making a valuable contribution, notably Edmunson and Roberts on Tuesday and Gregory against Boro. They have strengthened us.
I'm more optimistic that I was in January, that's for sure, but we ain't out of it yet.

Absolutely. There is a real sense of apathy around the club in this hinterland where nothing can happen or move on until the sale. Rooney did well to stand his ground and insist that no important players were sold in the transfer window, understanding that it was our only hope if we want to be playing Championship football.
But if anyone was in any doubt, and it's hard to see how, the sale of younger players and the type of loans we have got in just show what dire straits we are in at the moment on and off the pitch.
With the greatest respect, and for all his spin about wanting them, I can't imagine top of Rooney's list was a player who can't get in Stoke's team and a player who can't get in Boro's.
It all feels just like hanging on in there the best we can and hope for the best.

Funny how all this talk on here about winning/losing is Cocu v Rooney and no-one is talking about the people who are solely responsible for the outcome of games - the players.
It's no good blaming either manager if the players available aren't good enough to achieve game by game results, regardless of the opposition.
To my mind, Cocu would have taken us down, and Rooney is doing a better job with the same tools at his disposal. Problem is, the tools aren't any better than a lower midtable team.
We have hardly any creativity or goals in us, but at least we've shored things up at the back.
We can only hope the loan players add something going forward, or we remain in great danger of going down.
If we do finish 21st or above, it'll be a job well done in the circumstances but unfortunately a sign of things to come unless we can find someone to buy the club and invest in the team.

I don't see what all the fuss is here. Our business model is to use the academy, nurture players, and sell them. This is a great example. In fact its a perfect example, as we're getting money for a player who isn't in the first team squad, so it's not like we're losing an important player for our relegation scrap run in.
People saying he's the best 16-year-old in the country means nothing. It's hype. Callum Ball was the best 16-year-old in the country. So was Lee Holmes. So was Mason Bennett. It's all subjective and an unfair tag as players develop at different times. He might be awesome by the time he gets to 18, or he might be average. Fact is we need the money and there's money on offer, so we take it.
Why wouldn't he go to Liverpool? Are people genuinely saying we're a better club or that our youth set up is better than theirs?
It's a great move for the lad and I hope he does very well so we get a big sell-on fee in the future.
