This thread really is the gift that keeps on giving 🤣
Who should we sign first, James Trafford, Will Hughes or Thomas Delaney?

That may well be true but we currently have nowhere near a mid table Championship squad, once those who are leaving have left, IMO.
We're playing catch-up and so we'll need investment that other teams don't require. Which is why I would say expectations of anything above half way are some way too high.

I think Brannagan signed a new contract last year so might be out of our financial league, even if they don’t go up. Looks class though.

Adam Phillips was voted Barnsley POTS again and might be available at a reasonable price.

Joe Taylor from Luton would be class up top.

Pearce seem to indicate that as part of the 'business plan' set out by Clowes that he was willing to inject roughly £10m of his own cash, well profits from his company per annum, on top of day-to-day spending. I think the operating loss in our first season was roughly £10m and that was anticipated going forward. I don't think promotion changes that approach.
It's absolutely right we aren't going to be back up to a £44m wage budget and £15m net spend anytime soon but I do think that we will see Derby operate comfortably within the Championship in it's current form, i.e. competitive with Bristol, Preston, etc.
We don't really have many saleable assets within our first-team, that's a problem from a transfer-budget POV this summer, but I would encourage the club, should they believe in the recruitment staff they have put in place, to go and find players and invest in them as assets.
As I said, the approach under Mel (in hindsight) was signing experience pros at the top of their ability and giving them 3-4 year contracts. They weren't saleable assets. We never even gave ourselves a chance to recoup costs. I would impose that any players signed on fees have to be younger than 24 - three year contracts as a minimum. If you sign a player for £5m and in a year's time he's not hit the heights, you could still recoup a fee on a 23 year old who has previously shown promise. Difficult when that player is 29 or even 30.

Anyone think ebiowei could be worth a loan? Not seemed to go too well since leaving us, had tons of talent though. Love to see him again personally.

Not necessarily. We got ourselves into a mess by recklessly chucking over the odds money on players. I’d rather we didn’t just say “oh go on then” and double our offer on a player, even if that’s ultimately what we think he’s worth.
If we save a couple hundred grand on a few players just by not rushing to overspend, then that’s the money for an extra player left over.

Tbf, I don't think Rooney rated him.
Some of us knew different.  Plymouth would have been relegated ages ago if it wasn't for him. If he isn't scoring goals he's making them.

It’s good stuff it really is. Handball is “seen them given” I.e. 50/50 even with tree shaped glasses. Next one is less of a penalty than that. Then the statement is completely justified. The Athletic hiring these glorified season ticket holders as their club correspondents is a damning indictment.

I see they rested Brown last night in their 1 nil defeat at home to Aldershot, glad he's not being overworked with them playing 4 games in 8 days!
On a side note, a certain Kwame Thomas scored the only goal, rang a bell, ex academy player, didn't realise from how long ago though as he is 28 now though!

This may ignore the majority who haven't, that correlation doesn't mean causation for those who have, and also the longer term trend.
You may be interested in this research that covered a large period, basically the impact of a change is minimal after an initial "bounce", and that bounce is just the preceding dip in results, quite often due to luck, that led to the change regressing to the mean. There has also been evidence showing the same would happen without a change.

Surely nobody is expecting us to be anywhere near the playoffs if we do go up, Warne in charge or otherwise.
Stephen Pearce has mentioned several times they want a couple of years of Championship stability. Unless Robinson, Allen, Brown turn into world class superstars, we’re obviously going to do well to finish above 20th next season (if we go up)

McGoldrick was only missing for the first two games. He was available for all the rest. But so what? Warne lost Bird for the whole of the key month of February when results started to falter and was working with Rosenior's squad. But you should know very well that Clowes took the decision not to appoint Rosenior for reasons beyond mere results. The continual harping back to Rosenior by some posters is tedious for that very reason and no-one knows how the season would have gone with him in charge.
I swear I've never come across a situation before where an element in a clubs fanbase has moaned so much about a manager with their team in 2nd place. I'm sure some of our fans have totally lost the plot.
