taffyram reacted to Anag Ram in Warne Out Out
Just listened to the lower league podcast on five live and both Phil Brown and Jobi McAnuff agreed that Derby are inconsistent because Paul Warne has one way of playing and if sides get in their face they struggle.
I would say that’s a fair summation. Combination of weakness in the manager and a lack of resolve in the players.
Stevenage was mentioned as an example of an inferior side on paper outplaying a better footballing team through effort and commitment. Steve Evans simply got the best out of his team.

Like being 3-0 up, 75 minutes on the clock, and having used only 1 sub, with Robinson and Weston both on the bench. By the end of the game, we use only 3 out of 5 subs and leave both Robinson and Weston on the bench. Just like that?

The bit in bold is something I’ve been mulling over.
I don’t think Warne is a good long term planner or strategist, he focuses on short term wins. This may explain his promotions followed by immediate relegations. In some way, who can blame him when you see the flak for a defeat. I think we’ll see less U21 layers used in the EFL Trophy, which is a shame as it’s an ideal stage to gain experience. He wants the short term wins. He’s more Mourinho than Fergie - Mourinho built teams for the short term, Fergie built clubs to leave a legacy.
For what it’s worth I wouldn’t say I’m pro-Warne but I’m pro-stability as I do think give a manager time we’ll benefit in the long run. But I’m wavering as to whether Warne is that manager.

taffyram reacted to Sheff Ram in v Port Vale (A) - Predictions
People generally seem confident on this one. Me less so as I think this will be tough. It's been 10 games without a league win for them, but here come the every-generous Derby County!
Vale 2 Derby 1

Christ it’s no wonder the players look half arsed at the best of times if they’re not being paid

Possibly but I doubt it.
We are still under an agreed business plan.
Dont think EFL would sign off on a transfer kitty which was contingent on us getting past the first round of the FA Cup.

I do find the inconsistency very odd. It either suggests some of the players Warne has brought in aren't up to it, Sonny Bradley for instance, or he can't get a consistent tune out of them which is a whole other problem.

It's also clearly Warne quoting what he was saying to playing staff ahead of a game, of course he said you, he isn't on the pitch playing. I have no idea why he thinks that is a relevant point.

How about you listen to, and quote, the whole clip instead of cherry picking this one phrase:
”WE give the ball away for their second goal”
”For the next 70 minutes WE didn’t lay a glove on them”
“WE didn’t create enough goal scoring opportunities”

I'd much rather have beat Barnsley and lost to Crewe than the other way round. We were never going to win the cup, and is our squad strong enough for a cup run anyway? I honestly couldn't care less about this result, and I think the result at the weekend means far more.
It does feel a little bit like the anti-Warne brigade are just waiting for a poor result to set out their usual stall, and the results between don't factor into their thinking- maybe this is harsh? Any mention of ''luck'' or ''results in spite of the manager'' are getting dismissed outright as that's daft, you can't only credit the manager with the negatives and expect to be taken seriously...

Yep, Cheltenham much more organised with their new manager and again, it was timing. We played them just after he came in.

Cheltenham had gone 11 games without scoring...
...how long have you been following The Rams?! 😂

Port Vale have 7 defeats and 3 draws in last 10 games, and have lost last 4 home games.
On Tuesday, Oxford play Bolton and Stevenage play Peteborough.
Surely it's going to be a good night right?!

This appears to be a positive spin on the situation post, have I logged on to the right forum this morning? 🤨

I love lists like this, thanks for compiling.
My hope is Stevenage and Oxford will fade - the latter in particular are suffering from losing a good manager. In that respect, other top 8 teams who play them now may have the advantage over us.
I just want Stevenage to fade because I don't like their playground bully persona!
The rest appear to be in and around it on merit so our biggest advantage is that they'll be taking points off each other over the next few weeks.
We have to keep winning to capitalise on this.

We should be doing better and the fact we are 6th shows just how poor this year's league 1 is...Stevenage and Oxford above us.
But, credit where it is due, Warne has managed to claw us back into 6th with a real shot at top 2, with a decent run of games approaching, let's just hope he manages to keep it going.

There are 6 teams we haven't played so far and none of them are in the current top 8 teams. I wondered how that compared to the rest of the top 8...
(Team/Played/Points/Top 8 not played)
Bolton 17 38 (Barns, Ox, Ports)
Pompey 17 36 (Ox, Bolton)
Oxford 17 35 (Ports, Bolt, Pete)
Stevenage 19 35 (Pete, Barns)
Peteboro 18 34 (Steve, Ox)
Derby 17 30 (None)
Blackpool 19 30 (None)
Barnsley 17 28 (Bolt, Steve)
Maybe we are doing better than we thought!

taffyram reacted to angieram in Derby vs Port Vale
Port Vale had 73% possession yesterday and lost at Shrewsbury. Apparently have a stacked midfield but no bite in the final third.
It might suit us if we get space to play on the break.
Patience will be needed again, I think.

taffyram reacted to Ellafella in Derby vs Port Vale
Took my scrafe yesterday for B4 and it was cold. Remember a remarkable game last year so will be at this one too.
The team is heavily reliant on NML {he got the 94th minute winner last season IIRC} so I suspect given how quickly this game is coming legs will be tired from yesterday. I’d keep Fornah in to start and we need Barks & others to step up.
We are 4th in the form table compared to Port Vale’s 2nd bottom so the extrapolation predicts a win for Derby. I’d like to see us win but a point would be acceptable. A defeat not acceptable if we have ambition but as we know Madam Football is a fickle mistress. 😲
