  1. Did Vienna and Bratislava a few years ago, flew to Bratislava (loads cheaper than Vienna), taxi to Vienna (about an hour) and stayed a few nights there, took the boat along the danube (again about an hour) back to Bratislava and had a few nights there before flying back.

Riga is good too if you fancy it.

Krakow is excellent, not sure if it's still there but there was an ice cream parlour in the square when we we visited, all on offer were laced with some kind of alcohol. Zakopane mountains is a good trip out along with the obvious places.

Berlin and Barcelona are both great.

  2. Wonka - excellent performances all around and thoroughly enjoyed it. Plenty of nods to Gene Wilder in the way Willy Wonka is portrayed and more than one reference to the original film. A lot of famous and not so famous but recognisable faces appear, Timothee Chalamet, Olivia Coleman, Paterson Joseph, Calah Lane to name a few and Hugh Grant makes an excellent Oompa Loompa with the songs and dances of the original.

If you're a fan of the original then it's a must see, if you're a fan of the Johnny Depp version then you should just be ashamed of yourself.

    Eranio/Pure Imagination  9/10 for me.

  3. Sure we've all heard this one before...

Hello Mr Heating person, I'd like to part with some money and have a new boiler fitted please. "Ok, I'd be happy to come over and give you a quote" Great, I'm off Thursday (10th), would anytime after 12 be ok? "that's fine, see you Thursday after 12"

    You can guess the rest.

If anyone knows of any reputable/reliable folk that cover the Ripley area then feel free to DM me, only if you have the time, or can be bothered, as long as it's not too much trouble...

(then I can invite the original one back, keep them talking for an hour (if they turn up of course), then tell them I've already gone with someone else)

  4. The Platform, Netflix 1hr 34 minutes, "a twisted social allegory about mankind at its darkest and hungriest" (Netflix's description)

Truly excellent film, drawn in immediately and carries an obvious and strong message without being over political. Good acting performances all around and couldn't take my eyes off it.

    A solid Bobby Davison 8/10

  5. Wakanda Forever (Black Panther 2) - ok, grew up on Marvel comics and do enjoy the films, obviously some more than others.

Tributes to Chadwick Boseman very respectful and well done by MCU.

Angela Bassett - excellent performance but then she is an excellect actor.

Film itself - introduces a few new characters to us which is the usual thing nowadays, runtime seems way too long for a conflict that makes little sense with no real conclusion. Effects good, action sequences good (although these are few and far between and also quite short). Just seems a very weak storyline and almost as if it was a film made just for the sake of making one. Humour falls flat when attempted. Maybe Marvel have lost their touch lately, Thor - Love and Thunder was more of a comedy than anything else with a very under used Christian Bale who was the only redeeming feature in that one for me.

    A very average 5/10

  6. You've made the biggest, scariest, most difficult and most commendable first step by what you have said. Admittance to an addition is the first battle won, hopefully you will go on to win many more. With help from friends, groups and other organisations and the courage you have shown with this will set you on the right path to winning not only battles but the war itself. We're hear to listen even if we cannot directly help you on your road but there is an end to it, keep going down it and you'll get there. Wish you all the best and you're already going in the right direction.

  7. A Good Nurse - Netflix.  Based on the true story of serial killer Charles Cullen.

Both Jessica Chastain and Eddie Redmayne are excellent in their portrayals of the principle characters, Chastain especially.

    A solid 8/10

If hospital dramas are your cup of tea then try Paper Mask (1990) with Paul McGann, fictional one this time though, would rate that the same.

Hadn't heard of Charles Cullen before - scary stuff.

    Enola Holmes

Netflix film with “Eleven” from Stranger Things playing the younger sister of Sherlock and Mycroft and investigating her mother’s disappearance.

Decent enough film but the over-use of (obvious) green screen was an annoying distraction for me.

    6/10

Enola Holmes 2 just hit Netflix, would say it's around the same score

  9. Great read and great insight into the behind the scenes activities going on under Jim Smith's reign and how Derby were at the forefront of new technology and coaching methods. Like Pride it's a book that I can relate to from the very first page having witnessed the playing side at least. Some great memories relived and some not so great brought back but within all that is the warmth and affection Jim was held in by all that contributed.

    Just buy it.
