What a start to this tournament. International tournament football is the absolute best. Feels like a throwback to the good old days.

Mad we’ve had two Englishmen score in this tournament already and we don’t even play until tomorrow.

I hope ITV ditch the American soccer rules expert, found the whole thing bizarre given it was UK coverage of a European competition.

Rammy03 reacted to AutoWindscreens in Paul Warne
I can see you've thought about it, KH. But I think you are reading a lot into it.
Rashford and Sancho both had better penalty taking records than Kane. When Rashford walked up, I said, "He doesn't miss".
I know Saka didn't have a better penalty record: he'd never taken one in a match. But then, who took the 2nd? Harry Maguire, also never taken one in a match. And do you know who was lined up to take the 6th? Jordan Pickford.
To me, the choice must have been prompted by what Southgate had seen in training.

Personally I would give Warne the entire season to make his mark. I think getting us promoted and getting us over the line at the expense of three very credible challengers in Bolton, Peterborough and Barnsley warrants some credit in the bank and there is always a risk that pulling the plug after 15-20 games for instance does more harm than good. For every Rohl fairy tale, there are plenty of worse outcomes.
With the way the summer is unfolding, we are going to see a significant rebuild and it’s reasonable to expect some teething problems. Assembling a competitive squad is the first challenge given we have to recruit a large number of starters and squad players, followed by getting this new look squad to gel and function cohesively as well as possible.
I wouldn’t blame anyone for having concerns at present. There is quite a great deal of uncertainty over the make up and capability of the squad and while that is the case, people will naturally fret.
I fully expect us to start slowly irrespective of who we sign. However I am hopeful that once the new signings settle, we will improve. To what extent that is will depend on recruitment.
15 games won’t tell us very much, certainly not enough to sack Warne at the first sign of trouble. It would have to be the most disastrous start imaginable to put his job at risk.
In terms of the style of play, I would hope that if we get recruitment right that it will naturally improve and evolve as we can now attract a better calibre of player and there is scope to sign players who will line up with Warne’s vision more easily and be able to carry it out more readily.

Hoping he can recover from serious illness but doesn't look good, a brilliant footballer for Liverpool and one of the best tv pundits around.

I’m fairly hopeful of England winning this tournament, no other nation is really standing out at the moment , forget the Iceland game , no player before a tournament is going to go full throttle , if Kane, Bellingham, Foden, Alexander Arnold , Saka etc are on their game we are going to take some stopping , let’s see how it all pans out before we write us off

One of Southgate's failings has been not upgrading the defence, and that's coming home to roost here. England might be saved by our wealth of attacking talent, but it's hard to break down well-drilled international teams, except us - we're disappointingly frail. As a Ram, but with how he has performed since leaving us, it remains bizarre Tomori has never been given the chance to prove himself the player England needs in the heart of the defence.

Mount who hasn't played for England since the 2022 World Cup. He's had a number of injuries this season, woth only 1 start since November.
Southgate began to phase Henderson out of the squad as soon as he moved to Saudi.
Rashford has had a poor season considering he's an attacking winger. This season was his worst minutes per contribution in his professional career.
Grealish has also struggled with injuries and consistency this season. Only 4 goals/assists in the league is a poor return. Only 3 starts in the league since December, with only 4 more coming in other competitions, with only 1 assist (0 goals) in the same period of time.
Wharton, Mainoo, Eze and Gordon have all played well this season. Wharton has already been linked with the likes of Man City and Bayern this summer, whilst Spurs, Man Utd, Liverpool have all been linked to Eze - both for £60m+, demonstrating the levels of performances from them so far. Gordon has had as many goals/assists this season as Grealish, Rashford and Mount combined.

Ah, fair enough.
I don't expect to see them much as Gareth Southgate doesn't tend to rotate a lot during tournaments.
To be fair to him, he's dropped previous favorites before....Dele Alli, Jesse Lingard, kalvin Phillips, so it's not as if he has previously completely ignored current form though.

Well, Wharton and Mainoo have been selected ahead of Henderson and Mount; Eze and Gordon ahead of Rashford and Grealish.
