archram reacted to gccrowdpleaser in Jacob Widell Zetterstrom - SIGNED, FINALLY - 3yr deal
I don't understand why people find this transfer so odd.
A deal has been struck which means that at a certain point Derby get JWZ for a certain fee. That fee is dependent upon JWZ not joining until after a certain date.  The reason for that date is that it allows for them to push qualifying in the Europa Conference league in which they are in the 2nd leg of the 2nd qualifying round. Qualification to the group stages is worth approx €2.5m and any win in the group stages is €500k with  draw €166k.
So the Europa Conference league money is key here.
We haven't given him a medical, signed him and then said don't worry you can go and play elsewhere.
We've done a commercially sensible deal, with a preliminary medical to allow us to comfortably say we'll do a deal at X price in 2 weeks subject to him then passing and full medical ans hopefully helping his club take a step towards to Europa Conf League Qualifying and a far heftier prize for them than the reported fee we're paying.
The Goteberg game strikes me as odd if he plays in that but perhaps there's an agreement that he plays and is subbed off for the fans to say thanks and for him to say goodbye?
In doing so you potentially instill in the player how much you want him as your No1, you get your first choice keeper at a price you're willing to payand you potentially contribute to a bigger European earning for his existing club.
Seems like a thoroughly sensible approach to me.
And just to point out that they did the same thing with Dahl last week who was allowed to okay two additional games  before joining Roma.

I like the purple keepers shirt. £60 is a lot of money for a t-shirt so I don’t want to spend that much on a fairly similar black and white shirts each season. I want something a bit different.

Why don't we just let the Manager get on with it instead of being critical of his every move.
Since we last had any kind of success we've had something like 17 managers who have achieved f all...except all adding to the Financial demise we found ourselves a couple of years ago.
So we have a manager now who seems to know what he's doing yet there are some on here advocating sacking him at Christmas if we're not "successful "...please, just give the bloke a chance eh...

Warne has had the significantly lowest budget in the league every season he’s been at Championship level. He’s remit has been ‘have a go, do what you can’ but ultimately the writing was always on the wall.
Rotherham’s wage bill in the Championship under Warne was £7.2m across 163 members of staff (£44,171 per annum on average). The first year in League One, following administration, we spent £17.2m across 177 members of staff (£97,175.14 on average). We barely had squad that year - that really should give you an insight to how difficult he had it at Rotherham and what he did when he was given a budget comparable to his competition in League One was achieve every single time.

I'm quite happy to wait til the season starts in earnest before I start fretting at all.
Just disappointing that we are on a high after promotion, that we have done good business so far, but all the things his detractors criticise Warne for are there at this VERY early stage.
Just want us to play some nice football,  or develop some patterns, or even seem to have some swagger on the ball.
Instead there is no cohesion, no passing, no movement, no options. You can play out of position and make a mistake or get caught in the wrong place...but not being able to do the basics is disappointing.
Needs to be a big improvement this next week.
Fornah surely will be out the door, hopefully Washington too.
A decent start is vital or the boo boys will be out in force within weeks.

Well we've looked out on our feet these last two games, but we were told that there's a method to the apparent madness and actually, there is, IMO at least. Matt Hamshaw in his pre-match prezzer earlier this week talked about the players not having their legs back for another week or so and on that basis I'll probably hold off any season long predictions a little while longer. We all knew that in terms of personnel, this was going to be challenging and the manner, more than anything, of the last two defeats will add fire to some very well trodden arguments about the style and suitability of Warne's football for a Championship campaign. Of course, the jury remains out for yours truly, as with a purported 7/8 further signings in the offing, we won't even know our best starting 11 for a long while yet, less still how we intend to use them.
Like every Derby fan, I hope and long for champagne football, but I started out thinking mid-table this year would be an suitable launchpad for a sustained challenge over the following two seasons and I remain of that mind despite two poor performances in our friendly games. I would also venture that the signings being made do not necessarily correspond to some of the rather gloomy assumptions around our likely playing style, but the proof of that particular pudding will be somewhere down the line. I shall be keeping my fingers crossed and dreaming that we are dining at the top table come Xmas, but I remain mindful that it was more akin to the soup kitchen not so long ago. In all honesty, anything around mid-table with a bit of obvious progression would be considered a doozy Chez 86.

It might not have a huge bearing on the season but it's not too much to expect a base level of competence.

Reuben was lucky enough to be invited to Moor Farm today to watch training and meet the players and staff. They were all incredible with Reuben and Ivy making them feel included and interacting with them. I know Warne emphasises the importance of a good group and every one of them today were great with us as a family. They are all a credit to our great club Derby County and I am honoured to be a supporter of it.
Reuben’s favourite player is Cashin and he went the extra mile to make sure Reuben had a good experience. My wife is now a huge fan of Curtis Nelson as he came across  as a really humble, genuine professional who you would follow through thick and thin. Josh Vickers heard Ivy wants to be a goalkeeper and was really good with her as she has had a tough time too.

Owen Bradley the Rams TV presenter has been really good with us as a family and supported us over the past few weeks. The staff at Derby; Megan and Sophie have also been great supporting Reuben and us through this difficult time.

Finally, Warne and Richie Barker were really impressive today and are genuinely great human beings. They gave us the one thing you can’t put a price on…. Their time. Derby County is in great hands in my opinion and I will be an avid supporter of this management team this season.

We will be at Shrewsbury tomorrow so please say Hello to Reuben and Ivy if you see us as we see Derby County as part of our wider family now and we are all on the Road to Recovery together.

I'd rather we continue to provide the lad with a supportive environment and the best pastoral and medical care we can to help him recuperate. It's not an ACL again and he can be back as a useful squad member well before the end of the season. Worth noting he still has 2 years left under contract too.

Same old worriers worrying about a friendly game of football. The same worriers were probably worrying about only beating Chesterfield 1-0 last year at this stage, the fact we lost 4-0 well I’m not sure how many of you are coping getting through the day.
Lots of new players, more coming, trying out different things, nothing worth getting your knickers in a twist about.
More importantly we are all nearer to death by the second, whilst the clock is constantly ticking, why not try enjoying Derby County Football Club while you can.

I couldn’t really understand why Goudmijn was the deepest lying midfielder and Adams the furthest most forward. Felt like we lacked that defensive shield we get from ebou and also the ability of Kenzo to manoeuvre in tight spaces in the offensive third. Unless it was for a high press, they felt the wrong way round.

    No.
It'll be a very short season if we don't win every friendly easily. I'll be taking my season ticket to Brailsford and sticking it through David Clowes letterbox by the beginning of August.
I've supported this club for over 50 years but losing a pre-season friendly crosses a line in the sand for me.

Ho hum, its been like this since some daft t*** invented tinternet. Friendlies never mattered until about 10 or 15 years ago.

I feel this could be a long season for some if losing to Chesterfield in a pre-season friendly gets you angry/mad/perturbed/ or even slightly miffed because we are - believe it or not - going to lose games in the league. We might even - god forbid - lose our first game to Blackburn; a game I expect we will be big underdogs for.
Obviously, the majority of Derby fans are rational souls and will realise tonight's game means absolutely nothing. We may get promoted, we may get relegated - none of it will hinge on this match. Similarly, there is no way to predict whether we'll get promoted or relegated based on this result or performance.
What is funny/alarming is that there are some reactions which recognise that tonight means nothing but if we don't start well it will go badly for Warne.  Maybe. But what is confusing is that most fans (particularly the aforementioned rational ones) seem to recognise that this season could be a bit of a struggle. Therefore you'd think people would also recognise that we won't win every match. I'd hoped that this realisation might forestall some of the kneejerk and extreme reactions we will get after any defeat, and calmer heads would prevail. I'm not convinced this will be the case, alas. (On this, I'm not necessarily suggesting that the reaction to this defeat has been extreme, with some possible exceptions, however extrapolating some of the comments that have been made about this to what is likely after a league defeat and it doesn't necessarily fill me with hope).

We beat Stoke at home 3-0 last season and then went on to lose our first two home games in League 1.
Pre-season results matter very little, as long as fitness is building and there's no injuries then that's OK. Warne wants about 7 more players to add to the squad, so at least he might get them with scorelines like tonight. I'd rather this happen than win 4-0 and think we're more ready than we are, only to get found out when the important stuff begins.
