archram reacted to Mucker1884 in Rooney or Cocu
I think we've seen enough banter/joviality/"fun player videos" etc over recent years (I've lost count as to how many years we have been "there or thereabouts"!)
I see a little more determination and professionalism as a good thing, myself. Gotta be worth a try, at least!
archram reacted to ramsbottom in Rooney or Cocu
Rooney's signing took 2 days to sort once the rumour came out, so hardly a massive distraction. Rooney isn't a problem. Cocu isn't a problem. The blame for our sluggish start of the season is due to Chelsea being a bunch of fake, tight-arsed, champagne charlies not wanted to sack Sarri, and pay compensation. Instead they drag their feet over hiring Frank, and Cocu's left with duck all time to access his squad against decent opposition.
archram reacted to Millenniumram in Cagliari racist abuse of Lukaku
Absolutely ridiculous this is, Italy almost seems archaic in its approach to racism, barely seems to care about it and just lets it happen. Disgraceful from the fans who need to be identified and banned for life. But the bigger picture lies in the fact that this happens multiple times from one club- clearly they can not control their fans and need punishing. Whether that’s playing in front of no fans or whatever, something needs to be done.
Someone has to intervene over there, the more things like this are just let slide, the more people will keep doing it- they’re almost at this point saying it’s acceptable if there’s not too many people doing it! These idiots and the clubs they support need to be punished, or we’ll never get rid of racism from the sport- it’s an embarrassment on the game that it still exists within it. It’s the 21st century ffs, how thick are people these days!

I dunno, it was pretty incredible. I'm just surprised that more people didn't quote it twice and maybe a couple of people 3 times.
But I guess that's just a reflection on how far modern Society has slipped since Mary Whitehouse sadly passed away. God bless 'er soul.
archram reacted to Carl Sagan in Rooney or Cocu
Love that Philip Cocu is our manager. Finally someone with a brain and long-term strategy that will allow the club to benefit from its excellent academy and build a team that includes many of our talented youngsters. It was great to hear Pat Lyons raving about Sibley after the U23 game against Liverpool.
I will happily give Cocu 2 seasons now. We may not be, but I suspect that by the time Rooney arrives we'll be doing most things right and knocking on the door of the top six. And at that point the buzz and lift Rooney will give all the players will propel us higher.
It's a marathon not a sprint.

I’m certainly no happy clapper and get frustrated as much as the next fan and it’s fine to single out a player to criticise but the level of it on here is poor. People genuinely delighted he’s banned for our hardest game of the season so far...
Just don’t see the need for such hyperbolic criticisms of him. He’s had an awful year personally and he needs supporting. Fair enough criticising on here but you know there are some pond life that will be tweeting him about it.
Just glad Twitter and mobile access to the internet wasn’t around when we had Commons and Bueno playing for us.
archram reacted to Saity in Rooney or Cocu
He didn't want Rooney ??? but talks to him after every game ....hmmm yeah ok...if you say so!! ...pmsl....
Body language is poor ?? Looked ok to me, nothing any different from first game
Dead man walking ?? ......MM has said this season is for building for a proper go of it next season
This is not Cocu's squad and he's giving everyone a chance which is to his credit...I for one would've shipped half of them out straight away but thats because we've seen more of them
so....... basically a load of b******s
Try to get behind our manager!!! MM like myself couldn't beleive we could even get someone of Cocu's calibre and yet after a handful of games and virtually no pre season and a crap scouting set up some are doubting Cocu....the time to fully judge him is if this time next season we have not progressed......give the man a chance FFS
archram reacted to ram1964 in Rooney or Cocu
Manager still feeling his feet, new country, different league, climate good and Holr, bogle not been available. He ain't gonna change it overnight and I am sure after a dozen games we we see the team playing with more assurance and consistency.
Let's give the bloke a chance ,he had a short pre-season and we have a mixed bunch of players in ability talent and age.top ieght / six at the season's end would be a good result of we see continued improvement and development within the team .
Until then I will hold any negativety to myself unless things start going horrendously wrong.

Forest fan here really can't see you getting any punishment from this and I would be embbaresed to be a Middlesbrough fan with this happening club making themselves look ridiculous after wasting all there parachute money as much as it pains me to say it your chairman seems like a really clever guy and good business man anyway hope there is no punishment for you yes we love to hate you but would rather it be through football than off field crap
archram reacted to Carl Sagan in Loan watch 2019/20
In better loan news, Max Hunt played the full match in a 1-2 away win for Aldershot at Stockport.
According to the Aldershot forum https://www.shotsweb.co.uk/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=50049
"Max Hunt a ******* rock today"
"Spot on mate my MOM"
"The loan signings have all made an impact, so well done to Danny for bringing them in, and to Shahid and the board for providing the funds for this to happen."
"Well that was as good a Shots performance as I have seen in the last few years."
"Chislett, Powell and Hunt outstanding.
Hunt man of the match for me.
Brilliant team performance well done lads"
Sounds as if big Max had an impressive game. Aldershot are near the foot of the National League and Stockport near the top. Next up is away at Barnet on Tuesday.

I think there are a lot more overrated players to pull on a Rams shirt.
Lest we forget Mick Pickering who had an England appearance
A good job he had had a side hustle in M People.
If you look at our highest transfer fees paid it's a veritable who's who of overrated players.
He's better than Butterfield and cost the same and if you'd take Earnshaw over him I'd be idly pondering the cruelty of early onset dementia.
Now, if you'd said the most frustrating player, then yeh, I can see that.
He's clearly got a lot of skill - just look at the goals at Huddersfield and plenty other really good goals he scored - but he doesn't seem to be able to put consistent performances together.
archram reacted to LazloW in Lawrence up to 30 minutes in a game
Judging by most of the comments about him on this forum, I wouldn't say he is 'overrated' at all. Most people seem to think he is rubbish! He is a Championship level player playing for a Championship team. If he were overrated I would expect him to be getting slaughtered in the Premier League.
FWIW, I agree that is place in the team should be questioned. He is frustrating in the extreme and has done little in the last few games (and many other games) to justify his selection. Presumably Cocu (and those before him) judge him to be better, or potentially better, than the other options at our disposal. That is probably a bigger issue that needs to be addressed in the medium to long term.
There is a player in there, but he needs to show it more often than he does. The glimpses are tantalizing, however; which is probably why he keeps getting picked. He is clearly nowhere near the worst player ever to have played for us, however.

Behave. He left for his dream job and never pretended he wouldn’t. All concerned new it was on the cards, and just came around earlier than expected.
If Rotherham gave you your big break, but then Derby came a-knocking, you’d do the same. I certainly would. I’d always have a soft spot for Rotherham though, and look for their results, but there’s only one place I really want to be.

You're not the only one - so pleased for Tomori today & lovely to see all 3 loanees from last year have already made positive impacts this season. Just shows how spoilt we were last season! Also wish Lampard & Morris all the best, the pick up in results suggest they're learning the harsh lessons quickly.

I’d like to say thank you @Bob The Badger for the content of this post but also for the way you’ve laid it out. I find it so much easier to read when there are spaces between thoughts rather than a solid block of words. It may just be old age but that was a pleasure to read compared to many posts.
archram reacted to Bob The Badger in Reasons To Be Cheerful - Part Three
I know a lot of people are down on the Rams and the job Cocu has done, but I’m not one of them.
I think it’s really important to understand and accept the steep learning curve he and his staff were, and still are, going through.
He’d never played, nor managed in English football, and he was walking into a dressing room full of players I doubt he’d ever seen play live before the speculation started - I’m presuming he watched a lot of film when it looked like he was coming - but that’s not the same.
I’ll not get into the Frank leaving debacle and who is, or isn’t, to blame, but that surely didn’t help matters. Neither did having players like Shinnie imposed on him.
I got shot down for saying I thought we were lucky against Huddersfield and that I thought the defense were exposed down the flanks way too often.
If their strikers hadn’t been so profligate we could have lost that game after two world-class goals from Lawrence.
I think that win was a blessing and a curse because of what it did to supporters expectations.
but, it is what it is and I’d rather have the 3-points.
Since then we have played some dreadful football, but other than at Brentford (and those games happen, think Villa last year and Sunderland at home 2 or 3 yard ago) - we have also played some nice free-flowing football.
At times you can clearly see what Cocu is building even if at other times you want to scream, ‘get it forward’.
It’s light years ahead of Rowettball irrespective of the results.
Similarly, we got result under the poison dwarf, but jeez it was uglier than a warthog licking urine off a nettle at times.
I asked a few times before he broke through, what the deal with Max Lowe was, but nobody seemed to know.
It seemed like Derby wanted him away. For that reason and that reason only, we could see the Bogle injury as a bonus in months to come because it pushed Lowe into the fray.
He’s young and raw and he’s playing on the wrong side, but the signs are promising.
Wednesday was the first time I was happy with Cocu’s team selection. Sure Malone was in, but he is a threat going forward and I thought he had one of his better games.
Dowell has bothered me a LOT. I’ve a good friend who’s an Everton diehard and he raves over him.
I’ve seen nothing.
I know Tomori and Wilson took time to settle in, but there were signs before they started to play with consistency.
As I say, I liked the team. Clarke isn’t the Mark Wright-lite that I thought may be the case and his inability to use his right leg concerns me at times, but when he bothers to, he can bring the ball out with pace and threat.
You’d not describe either him or Keogh as quick, but they are bothy long striders and can ghost past players that may seem faster with surprising ease at time - the Leeds goal was a classic example of that.
And Biliek, I mean come on?
I posted in the game thread that I think we can put to bed any talk of where his best position is.
Without playing brilliantly he showed touches and moments where you can clearly see the potential to be a stand out player - at least in this division.
I’m going to repeat something that I posted after the game - I think this team is close to being good.
We absolutely need Bogle back and Lowe on his natural - but those two alone will terrorize a lot of championship defenses.
Bogle could be that Igor spark that somebody mentioned last night
Unlike many, I also think Huddlestone is playing well. The problem is that he hits a lot of balls that many players on’t attempt and when they go awry it looks awful.
I do think he’s a calming influence and that moment he brought the ball out when we were under intense pressure last night was pure class.
Roos otoh, is anything but a calming influence and worries me more than any other player.
He’s punching way too often and that is either because he lacks confidence in his handling, or he’s learned bad technique. There was one cross last night that I with me with my dodgy achilles and girl sized hands could have caught while simultaneously scratching my nut sack.
I’ll not dwell on that though because I see us as becoming more and more attack minded and the opposition can’t score from their own half.
Unless that is, you have Wayne Rooney in your team (see the goal he scored against Orlando City this season).
I’m not a wrist-slasher and I’m not a happy clapper - I try to be objective when I can.
But, I rarely have this level of confidence. I could look like a fool come next May and be gently retreating from the board hoping nobody will notice, but I think we could be on the cusp of something pretty exciting.
If that is, Cocu can stick to the plan, find his best team and get everybody fit. And the supporters let him breath.
And on that note and a final note. I thought the fans were brilliant last night. You all deserve a pat on the back because nobody would have complained if PP had been like an undertakers office on their day off.
Come on you Rams, to Leeds and beyond!
PS. Don't be confused that there was no Part 1 and 2, it was just an Ian Dury hat tip for those of you old enough to remember.

Seem to remember reading about a report commissioned to analyse and identify young English talent from the U16s and upwards. Would have been about 6 or 7 years back at a guess and it painted a very bleak 10 year outlook. Happily, it seems to have been well wide of the mark as the current squad seems pretty strong to me with any number of good youngsters waiting in the wings. With younger players we do seem to have lost that fear of losing, somewhat at least, which is also good to see.
As for 2020 I'd like to see the likes of Mount, Foden and Maddison given a chance and I'd also throw Grealish in the mix. The latter-named has had some early season woes but from the little I've seen, teams are setting up to neutralise him as he is Villa's heartbeat and in a better side I think we'd see how good he really is. As with our beloved Rams, if the current squad has a weakness it seems to me it's in our midfield and link up play so blooding some of the kids who have potential to change games seems worth a shot.
Lastly, I seen a few folk criticising Southgate across the match threads but for me he's done well and he can't play the best 11 every game anyway. Players need resting and he has a lot of players to look at not just for the starting 11 but those who will make the squad. Surely the fact that we can do that in competitive matches and still be winning games comfortably bodes well for the future.
