It's all getting a bit silly now. We looked pretty toothless with Martin in the team.

Yeah come on @Ambitious, how can you say you’re a huge fan without getting the employee handbook out and not finding a way to slam the club for unfair dismissal.
You’re just a fraud, huge fan my behind!

I'm a huge Martin fan. HUGE.
I can't say I'm sad to see him go, though. We know he was on a big old wage here and a significant amount of that contract was paid during a period where he wasn't in the team or out on loan. It was a bad contract and I'm glad we didn't extend it. I obviously have no idea what he's on now, but I'd imagine that Bristol have extended the contract to lower the wage. I wouldn't be surprised if he's still on good money.
The problem with Martin is that he's the most one dimensional footballer I have ever seen at Derby. He's technically an outstanding footballer, he's got a high footballing IQ but you literally have to build the attack around him otherwise you get diddly squat out of him.
When you look at his loan spells: 10 in 30 for Fulham, 1 in 10 for Reading and 2 in 30 for Hull. None of them were sad to see the back of him. When the attack wasn't built around him here, he didn't have the best of time. Cocu, like McClaren, managed to get something out of him by making him the focal point. If Bristol don't do that, or decide that he's more influential off the bench, he's going to struggle to get to five goals next season.
We need a more progressive approach. Martin is a player that I'll always hold in high esteem but I'm not sad to see him go.

The fan club may get over him but there is no way we will replace him - we haven’t got a pot to piss in to buy someone younger of comparable quality and no one on the books anywhere near as good.

I realise you have a love affair with Martin, but really some perspective is required from you!

Not that it matters but I could suggest that offering to sign someone on a contract that isn't near 'market rate' is tantamount to 'constructive dismissal'.
But yeah we offered him a year and he didn't take it. How very dare he.

I wish you didn’t suggest that, just spat a mouth full of tea out my nostrils reading that!
Please tell me you’re not seriously suggesting we effectively dismissed him as we didn’t offer him the market rate...which is what exactly?

I can understand the reasons for letting Martin go now having seen the contract length situation. I was initially very disappointed we’d let him go from a footballing sense - but from a business sense, handing out a potential three year contract to a 31 year old is a dangerous move. Exactly the same as with Forest and Lyle Taylor, in a year or two’s time the player might be well past his best and of no use to you. You’re then stuck with probably 15k a week wages going to waste, with no way to shift them. You just can’t take that sort of gamble in our situation, especially given Martin’s health history.
I think we’ve made the correct call here, much as I rate Martin as a player.

Have I missed the bit where it’s confirmed what we offered in terms of years or money for the contract because as far as I can see it’s speculation that some have now turned to fact , given he hasn’t attracted a fee for a few years when we had managers that wanted rid I’m struggling to follow the logic that we would get a fee for him another year on if it wasn’t working ?
whish him the best and fair play to those that struggle To let go but come on

Yes, you mention Waghorn and the fact that he is still a DCFC player, so obviously considered a better option than Martin, seems totally wrong.

He's only 31 - same age as that bloke at Arsenal! Why not a 2/3 year deal? FFS It's pathetic we couldn't/wouldn't offer him that. I bet if it wasn't working after a year we'd still have got money in transfer fees for him!

The fascination for me is only true for totally mechanical watches. My Omega Seamaster QMatic. is semi quartz but charges by movement. My absolute favourite is my Longines Conquest Classic chronometer. Absolute masterpiece of miniature engineering. Cost a fortune to service, but keeps excellent time.
PS When you look at your watch smile for Mr. Putin, he is watching (?) you.

The Casio is very vogue now and have some pricey models in the g shock range ,quite collectible ,,,,,,, on the question of gifting a watch from sons age it’s a really nice thing to do but I can also see the view that it may not be the watch of choice for person relieving the gift
