We will be the surprise team in the division and after an unexpectedly good start we maintain decent progress and finish the season in 5th before losing 6th points due to fielding an unregistered player in the first game . The loss of points means we just scrape into 6th by the virtue of scoring one more goal than Middlesbrough.

Exactly where I am. I was scathing of him for most of last season but am pretty incredulous he's sticking it out. There was always the ejector seat narrative of 'took over with Derby bottom & saved them' that could have been spun in the media & lets face it, there is a clamour for Rooney to be a success & manage at Premiership level so the likes of Sky & the tabloids would've enthusiastically reported it. As you rightly say though, staying around this mess is going to hurt his reputation more than Derby County ultimately - we've historically always been 'feast or famine'.
As to reasons why he is still here - I suspect the rumours about his connection to a potential takeover bid could be the key factor & probably why he called Mel out last day of the season but 3 months later, still being here despite the situation actually getting worse. Never really saw him as manager wanting to bounce around from club to club - maybe he does want to build something here, maybe I'm being extremely naive. Going for the former because frankly the club have drained any other drops of hope from me.
Between his bloody minded determination & the style of football we've played in pre-season (assuming this is the default going forward), I've warmed to him. I like people who stand by the club.

Read all the posts on here over the last few days and while i am as frustrated as everybody is with the news coming out of the club i would like to give a big shout out to Wayne Rooney and Curtis Davies , Rooney is fighting a battle like no other manager in recent years has had to , for him to come out and say hes here no matter what gives me a little hope for this season
         As for Curtis , well what can you say , after signing his waiver for the last game last season , now signing on for this season at a reduced wage shows what a whole hearted , dedicated , total professional footballer and human being this guy is , hope he has an injury free season and leads by example in a difficult looking season , all the best to Wayne , Curtis and the rest of the players and staff , COME ON YOU RAMS

It's certainly going to be interesting.
I dunno if it's the usual preseason unsubstantiated and unrealistic optimism but I actually think, despite everything stacked against us, that we'll be ok.
Sure, lower half of the table but, so long as the points deduction is not more than 6 points, we'll be safe from relegation.

Amongst all this nonsense though, a nod to Curtis Davies. He's seen his fair share of bullcrap in his time here and is still willing to stick by us.

Well I am feeling quite confident that we can make a good start to the season Derby are the under dogs this season but i think this will play into our hands and yes i feel for roony not got the backing he had hoped for but Derby do have decent young players I know many are worried but I am not but other hand about ownership I am concerned.

I think we know Morrison's response already.
