Sad to see him go but makes total sense from his perspective. Wages will increase dramatically & he will probably get a decent amount of playing time still from being loaned out. Having shone in the Championship, I also don't see the sense from his perspective of dropping to League One.
Whilst the sale of Plange & Ebiowei are tough to take, there is a silver lining in the long term. Lads recently released from Prem academies will see the example of those two players & think that a move to Derby would similarly be able to provide a platform to get back to the Premiership within a couple of years. I imagine that is exactly the sell Wassall & the Academy team will be making over the coming days to a number of young players.
The general point of how young players are plucked by Premiership clubs has been a consistent problem since the advent of Category status academies & the impact of that on the price a club can expect to receive for a player. The situation with us is pronounced because of the EFL's refusal to allow us to tie down our youngest players - a further unwarranted & unnecessary punishment seeking to gut us of our entire infrastructure. The Academy is absolute gold dust & hopefully the imminent new owners (now we are able to offer contracts) and Rosenior place great emphasis on it as part of the strategy to rebuild the first team squad.

I don't know whether this has been posted or not, but there was an interview this morning on Radio Derby with several of the people David Clowes worked with when he was a Captain flying 747's.
They said that he was the complete opposite to our previous owner.  Comments included was that he 'was one of the nicest men  ever met.'  'Nothing was too much trouble for him.' He still enjoys flying. 'He was an absolute gentleman' and 'a thoroughly good man.'  'No airs and graces'. 'Genuinely nice man.' 'Loved the cups of tea I made for him.' 'Brilliant pilot'.
One of his ex-colleagues said that having spent his early days on the terraces at the Baseball Ground, he'll find it hard if he can't watch the games from the terraces any more.
I thought it was nice to hear what those who have previously worked with him thought about him. Seems he was highly liked and regarded.
I hope that all of this augers well. I'm certainly encouraged by how fast we are moving to a conclusion and his dignified silence so far.
He doesn't seem to be an egotist or the kind of person to mess us about.

Yeah, me & my fellow South Leeds Ram will be getting our first ever season tickets as soon as they're on sale. Watched that many games last season, it made sense to finally take the plunge & I dont want to miss the rebuild.
@Ellafella whilst we have our fans & a club, we have everything. Managers come & go and players come & go, its all cyclical. We are so far below our natural level (16th-20th in country) that the only way is up now. The defiance & that sense of injustice won't go away easily and will galvanise fans more than say, another attempt to finish 17th in the Prem (Hi Leeds). I was far too young to appreciate mid 80s but always strikes me how much more fans talk about those Division 3 days & rise through the leagues rather than finishing 5th in 88/89.
Plenty of good days ahead I'm certain. Winning more than we lose, raucous away days at grounds we've never been before, a sense of pride that when times were as tough as it could be for any club of our stature, we rallied as a fanbase & stood together. We're gonna live forever. COYR

And let's face it, if he was deemed good enough to progress Blackpool, there's a good chance he could do the same for us. I'd imagine it's harder for a rookie manager to take an existing, underperforming squad and turn them round, than it is to assemble a group from scratch to play into a preferred playing style. Liam has the rare opportunity to practically sign an entire team, and he can select players based on how he wants to play- for a new manager, that's an ideal scenario.
Tactically he should be sound, being the youngest coach to obtain the UEFA Pro badge. He's had 3 years of man management experience now also, and knows the club very well. Given we're likely working on a limited budget, there's enough there to say he's worth a shot imo.
