I am afraid it is late stage capitalism in effect. Another example, a building developer wants to put up thirteen houses on a field in our village, totally out of character with the village and contradicting key elements of our council's planning development charter. Local Parish council are doing all they can but local council are already admitting they don't have the resource to block it, when we asked if our councillor would support it we were told 'not in this political environment' and we quietly expect this will happen, even if nobody actually wants it. There just aren't the resources to enforce key elements of what we have expected in our society.
To the earlier point, there just aren't the police available to invetigate most crimes - they're not being lazy or hard faced, they just can't. It's not that Tamara Ecclestone had her jewellery stolen that is the issue, it's that she had them stolen in Westminster where there are the resources available and, if there weren't, they would probably just go out an hire private (note point on the news this morning, more people paying for private healthcare coz they can't wait for the NHS - don't worry about future governments privatising healthcare, it's happening today under our very noses).
TLDR: I have no problem with people getting (reasonably) rich. I have no problem with others preferring to not want to be rich, that doesn't make them lesser in any way. But everyone, and I mean everyone, must have access to the support networks that are fundamental to safe and healthy living - irrespective of what path they either choose or are given. Healthcare, education, policiing, housing, legal, public transport. No problem with private alternatives for those that cannot afford them but these are the basics of a society that everyone should have access to.

Stumbled across this before seeing it recommended here. The shots of the audience when Korn were playing are just insane. I despise that frat boy American - the sort who just flexes their muscles and screams "whoo, let's go, yaayyyy, <insert expletive>" so this was largely a tough watch for me. But just amazing what happens when you put a lot of drunk people in a space with no controls and then whip them into a frenzy.
BTW - the Norm Cook comments remind me of those "look at <insert name of 1960s sex bomb> thirty years on, you won't believe pictures of her". Shock horror, person ages at the rate of one year per year - fancy that eh!

Marriage: being touted as great BBC drama but I'm three quarters of the way through and it's passing me completely by. Meant to be intimate and 'small' but it's just slow and thin. Writing is poor, characters (particularly the boss character and the daughters boyfriend), scenarios etc are totally unbelivable. Something amazing has to happen in the last episode to save anything of this.

A lot of the explanation is down to the fact that when you remember something you are not remembering it, you are remembering the last time you remembered it. It's like a rewrite of your memory bank every time you recount that memory.
Take a moment to consider a memory from a long time ago of a friend or family member for have known for a long time. You don't remember them as they were at the time of that memory because your have rewritten your memory of that person subsequently.
Which is why, in law, testimony of events long passed are so flawed, as suggested above.

Best way you can save money is to agree not to get wrapped up (see what I did there) in it all. Two presents each, reasonable price cap, no stockings, new lights or bottles of expensive nutmeg flavoured liqueurs from M&S. Still have your Christmas dinner, still sing carols round the tree, still go to midnight mass or whatever but just reign in the consumerist claptrap they try to convince us all we can't do without.

I work for a French company so interact with them many times a day. Brexit is not even on their top twenty things of things to worry about, so if anyone thinks they are doing this as some grand 'eff you' I am sorry to say we simply are not that important to them. Actually, most I have spoken to are genuinely sad we have left the EU (a couple think we are crazy) and I have yet to have one conversation that suggests we deserve to be taught a lesson. Seems some have moved on from 1415 (and I don't mean quarter past two).
