My cousin got a great little job working as a photograph runner at the City Ground. Back in the days before online technology the nationals would take pictures of the games and the films had to couriered off during play to get the newspaper print prepared.
She gave me a pretty garish looking all white official press jacket with Euro 96 on it after she was done with it. No idea where it went . I have form for such things .
Seem to remember a lot of Derby fans went to the City Ground as Croatia had there group games there during the Igor days. I can also remember the excitement that we'd signed Asanovic for 10p before the tournament and he was brilliant.
Very fond memories of that time . Life seemed a lot simpler and people seemed a lot less miserable - even prior to the misery of the last year- and the music was better an all.

You do recall that my 'hmmmmmm' was a response to your speculation that restrictions may have actually caused more deaths? That has little to do with the stadium in Texas being the only baseball ground in US to allow a full capacity crowd.
Texas has vaccinated about 17% of it's people, one of the lowest states in USA.
35% of Texas are obese.
Not sure this is going to end well.

All valid points.
However, I'd argue the players we've got at our disposal now are much better than we had a year ago.
Grealish has by all accounts been outstanding this season and has managed to force his way into international contention. Foden has had his breakthrough season and is now recognised as a world-class talent. Bellingham has obviously developed massively due to his age, but also due to going from the Championship to the Champions League. Mount has stepped up his game to become one of the best in the Premier League. Chillwell and Shaw are both regarded as being in a better place than they were a year ago. -

Stephen Graham is always incredible. Sean Bean is great in it too. Watched 1 and a half episodes, brilliant stuff.

You can't blame the masses for doubting scientists. They had just been told we'd all had enough of experts!

TIME on BBC. Only half way through episode 1. Sean Bean sent to prison, very dark and gritty so far.

People don't like being told things which run counter to their pre-conceived opinions and which maybe are outside their comfort zone.

If one of the outcomes of this pandemic is that people think scientists were the problem then that will be a terrible shame. Vaccines, treatment methods, pandemic research and all of the other work that scientists have undertaken globally will have done more to save lives and kill off this virus and it's variants than any government when all is said and done.
Regardless of if you are New Zealand that coped well or Brazil that has coped terribly, science is what will ultimately bring COVID and it's variants down to manageable levels globally. No amount of anti-science or anti-vaccination rhetoric can change that fact.

You do realise it was scientists who developed the vaccine that have, or will have.
Personally I have no sympathy at all for those people who got caught out in Portugal. So desperate to say I've been away! They knew the risks.
I would have quarantined instantly. What logic says get home at 03.59 you're fine.04.01 you're a danger to everyone.
Same with India what idiots travelled to a place riddled with the stuff then get allowed back in with no restrictions at all. Government stupidity.

It not yet “a couple of weeks” since the recent uplift in infections though is it? 10 days ago the daily rates were c3300 compared to more than 5500 for 4 out of the last 5 days. Maybe scaremongering but I heard on the radio this morning fears that rates may rise to 10k a day by the 21st June.
I guess the government want to feel confident that the increase in infections has levelled off and, as you say, the 2 week lag between infections and hospitalisations, doesn’t materialise.

So what you’re saying is “we’re relying on good players to create goals to enable us to win games.”
I’m pretty sure that’s how most teams operate. Even city wouldn’t be much good without their world class players creating and scoring opportunities.
Most teams are lucky if they’ve got one game changer, we’ve got half a squad full of players who could create that goal out of nowhere.

I can’t see us having a new owner this Sumner. The last 3 to 4 years of the Morris tenure has been Marred by some crazy decisions. We are now at a really Lowe point. The club is even a Tennant of the stadium.

Yes - appreciate the nuance was "no earlier than" but in the dumbed-down media era, you know people just saw the date and words "all restrictions lifted" and that's why so many are kicking off at the prospect of it being put back 2 weeks
Exactly - that statement was ridiculous "it's about data not dates" and then proceeded to real off a series of dates
The whole thing should have been based on data. Certain conditions met = restrictions gradually lifted

Yeah hopefully it will be fine. I'm only thinking they'll delay by a small amount to make sure all adults are vaccinated at least once. If the expert advice is another 2-3 weeks to get that all done, don't think it will make much difference.
You might be right to say that link between cases and hospitalisations is proved to be fully broken. I wasn't sure if there had been enough cases with enough time to see that.

Thanks for the answers and I understand the different perspectives. I hate masks too, especially as I wear glasses. And I am also due to go to a wedding in August that was already postponed from last year.
I do think we need to be very careful about international travel for a while yet, but hopefully the government will reward us for that sacrifice with a relatively 'normal' British summer.
-
ariotofmyown got a reaction from angieram in The coronabrexit thread. I mean, coronavirus thread
I think weddings is the obvious big one. If some restrictions have to continue, you'd hope weddings could still go back to normal.
A relatively small number of weddings is clearly much less of a risk than pubs/clubs etc being packed out.
