As soon as the points were docked, there was talk of the possible ‘miracle’ of Rooney keeping us up. Rooney himself got that talk going (I said at the time that was foolish but hey). If you think, against that background, he could walk away without damaging himself, I disagree. And so evidently did his advisers.
What he did do was get very public with the ‘Mel Morris is a $hit’ line. Lots of people said that of Morris of course. But it sat very poorly in Rooney’s mouth because despite Rooney’s lack of coaching badges, experience and ability, Morris (what a fool) had sacked Cocu then demoted LR to give Rooney the honour of learning his trade as our manager. It was shabby by Rooney to stick the boot in, just as shabby as his hotel room antics and his bell ringer bullying. He should just have put his nose to the grindstone and tried to do his job better.

He was awful, here, at DC and at Birmingham.

    Karma’s a bitch!

Good news is they've invested heavily over the last 2 yrs to get Cat 1 status. If it goes Pete Tong, they'll bring the wonderkids in .  Oh actually...https://www.dcfc.co.uk/fixtures/results/2023/12/23/nottingham-forest-v-u18

Well worth it though for the value they got out of Jesse Lingard. And Shelvey. And Dennis, you know, the one with the shoes. And the one who did a little dance. And the ones who play for Olympiakos now, which is fine, absolutely fine. And the rest. I’m sure we could probably name them all but we might not have time.

What happened to O'Brien for 12 million. I assume Marinakis is using him as a beanbag.

He also pulled off an incredible save in todays game. Don’t want to be wasting limited finance on a keeper.

Why I don't understand wasting wages on Loach, that could have gone to another player we missed out on when wages had little wiggle room

Out of interest, did they have loads of different players from when we met earlier in season ?

We didn't have a player like Waghorn to hold the ball up and constantly recycled it by hoofing it away and giving them possession from the 81st minute. That was a difference.

I said this on another thread the other day, would much rather keep Bird and find him a new midfield partner. Not a slight against Hourihane either, I think he continues to contribute in ways, but would like someone younger with pace and power alongside Bird.

I assume Fornah should fit that equation.  He's pedestrian either way.

Just back from a super game to watch.

We gave as good as we got, but for the last 15mins they pressured us relentlessly and we looked like a boxer on the ropes.

Thought we had done enough to draw but they got the final punch in.

I loved their man 14 Randall absolutely bossed the midfield passing and made hourihane and bird look rubbish.

    Perhaps a Jan target?

Anyways was a marvellous game, two sides wanting to win, unfortunately we fell a bit short at the end but given a bit of rest we could have done them.

    On to Fleetwood COYR 🦍

Only 13 game in 2 years prior to this one, so he hardly plays it seems.  Don't know if he's a regular now.

This is a pivotal point in our season. How we react to this defeat will be definitive I feel.

We can still break into the autos if we can put another run together.

Not sure what some people are on with their knee jerk get rid of this or that player.

A draw today was pivotal for autos I think as the few teams above us will have the beating of every team.  That will be a huge boost to them. A very physical side like Stevenage could upset them but that's the same with all 4.

  9. That was abhorrent defending albeit fell lucky.  When are we selling Bird. That holding on to the ball when he had two options  summed him up. A truly dismal 90 of poor decision making, shooting, tracking players, winning the ball and finding space from him but it's Hourihane holding him back I hear.  Glad he went off at 45 as it showed it clearly has nothing to do with him. Would have taken a draw as for me it's been us, Bolton and Peterborough for the top 2 for a while. Them and Bolton won't drop many points.  A red card isn't it for deliberate handball ?

  10. Mendez Laing needs to do more covering although it's not his favourite job,  Bird is totally lost, Wilson effective going forward but huge switch offs on that side defensively.  Only one result here without more physicality in midfield and ball retention.  We're making them look better than they are by not pressing enough or picking up overlapping players.

Just saw Bird pull up and hold his groin, hope he’s ok

WD40 required.  Perhaps that's why he's standing 3 yards away from anyone he's facing up and no chasing back on those who turn him.  Either he doesn't know what his job is or he can't be arsed.

We got Kane Wilson f.o.c as part of the deal, so it wasn't quite that bad - what might he be worth at the end of the season? His national manager basically told him he had to move if he wanted to play and he had a year left on his contract (thanks Mel/EFL), so what would you have done?

I've no objection to him moving.  He did his time when others fecked off.  The price however, was terrible.

  13. 7 hours ago, Crewton said:

They love him, which is unsurprising. I just hope that his good form gets him a move to a real football club before too long. He'd suit Everton or Luton down to the ground.

Surely not.  I kept reading he wasn't pulling up any trees, didn't get any goals and those constant MOTM awards for Ireland didn't count as they were cack, despite having 10 premier league and championship players in the same side. 1.7 million was a great deal for us. Honest, we had their pants down.

Of course you can fluke it. I think it’s evident by our PL season that we didn’t get promoted on ability.

Stars aligned for us and Forest.

We got promoted correctly by finishing third.  It was the load of s**** we bought for tuppence in the January and summer that  cost us.  If we had a fit Barnes and hadn't flogged Oakley we'd have got more points
