Turkey ratifies Finlands NATO application, with Sweden to follow.
Exactly the opposite of what Putin wanted. This invasion has been such a huge own goal from a Russian perspective in so many areas.
Also a big surprise is that Bakhmut holds, after it was assumed it would be taken. Sadly the city has been completely leveled, Russian forces did make gains at massive costs, but they were ultimately held and are now losing ground.
It seems on some fronts Russia has exhausted its offensive capabilities and is going for another mobilsation of 400k to bolster their positions ahead of the predicted Ukrainian offensive.

I had to chuckle this morning when I saw that someone had asked him not long a go if he would be going to heaven, and he replied with "I hope not, I won't know anybody"

Well said! For the first 15 - 20 minutes there was only one team on the pitch. But why you have to resort to the dark arts baffles me. You are one of, if not the best team in the division. Your number 33 (Woodhead?) in that 1st 20 minutes didn't make a challenge for the ball without it being a foul. Your number 10 dived for a penalty, which the ref rightly gave the free kick to us, but it was a card-able offence, but no card given. And no, the ref wasn't inconsistent with his cards. All he was capable of doing was booking your players for time wasting, but then doing nothing about the continued time wasting. Clarke should also have one or two more yellow cards for persistent fouling, and for throwing the ball away right in front of the ref. Yet he couldn't wait to give free-kicks for perfectly good tackles, and then wave a card at Derby players. He was exceptionally consistent, as well as not giving free kicks or cards for similar offences by Ipswich players.
The "Cashin goal" was actually scored by McGoldrick, and disallowed for a foul on the goalkeeper. By whom, no-one actually knows because there was no-one near him. The only foul was Collins being held in a headlock in the middle of the area. But no penalty given, of course. As happened when knight was upended going into the area in the first half. There's a ton of other stuff the ref goofed up with, but there is neither the time nor space to bother with it. Incidentally the lino apologised for that decision. But its a bit rich when we keep getting done over by poor decisions match after match, often with subsequent apologies. But you don't get in the play-offs with apologies.  We would rather have the 6 - 10 points these decisions have cost us.
Because of how you started and finished the match, maybe you were worth the points, and I would like to wish you well, but am not happy doing so for a team that relies so heavily on the dark arts, especially when you are such a good footballing side.

The incessant cheating in this league (or any league) is ridiculous.  Time wasting from the first goal and going down as if shot for every foul (or just falling over untouched and apparently needing physio's attention every time).  Yes, the ref at least made some bookings, but there could have been a lot more.  I'm sure we're just as guilty but I'd still love to be able to ask the managers whether they're proud of their players for being blatant cheats.
It might help if the refs were up to the job but they aren't.  Today's was a joke.  Notwithstanding the disallowed goal (haven't seen a replay so no idea if justified) he probably didn't have a massive influence on the result; Ipswich were the better team.  Nevertheless, he was awful. Completely out of his depth.
We weren't at it at all for the first 20-25 minutes then started to get a bit of a grip. Second half quite even but thought Ipswich always looked a bit more dangerous.  We didn't create enough.  However, I'm not going to have a mardy about it.  Sometimes you lose to better teams. I also think we're now playing as I thought we might all season; struggling at times against better teams, eking out wins against some teams at our level and occasionally being comfortable against the dross.  I think we've over-performed up to now and the small squad with either quite old or quite young players is creaking.  We obviously needed more in January but option were very limited.  I still think we'll sneak into the playoffs and that would be a major achievement given where we started from.

Just got back from the game - that was the result I expected before the game started.
After 20 mins I feared it would be a lot worse than that. The team tried but we lost to a better team simple as!
They have had the same manager for 18 months and strengthened in several transfer windows - during which they have spent a considerable amount of money.
No disgrace for us at all today, it’s disappointing but hardly surprising!

    Strange game.
Started off badly, then improved and ran the game for a good while but lacked cutting edge in the final third.
Cashin’s disallowed goal was the big turning point and shows the fine margins in this division. It should have been allowed and we’d have been in the ascendancy.
But it wasn’t and we fell apart, with the subs failing to have any impact on the game.
Ipswich are clearly further along in their building process than us. The positive is that we played well for a good period of the game.

It sounds as if we've put in lots of effort. Well done, lads whatever the result. We just came up against a team currently better than us.

We've also had the benefit of all the first team games played by academy products for whom we paid nothing other than their development costs and turned out scores of decent young men many of whom have had respectable careers as professional footballers in the EFL and beyond.

To keep it in simple terms for you...
It will take 2 years for the U21s to stabilise. In the meantime, the younger age groups will perform as well as they ever have.
Or we could have gone your way by giving up on the academy until we're back in the Championship and it'll take 10 years to get back to a fully working academy.

Needs football. Setting aside the rights and wrongs of his lack of game-time, he ought to get plenty of minutes at Scunny which will do him a lot more good than getting none stuck in the nether-nether land between the U21s and the 1st team. I can actually see this being good for Liam and good for Derby too, in the longer term. He remains a very good prospect.

The squad is stale. It has proven itsself not quite good enough in tournaments, yet Southgate persists with the same players, many of who have regressed. There's simply no case for some of them. These are apparently the players Southgate "trusts", but how can he learn to trust other, better players, if he doesn't select them?
To travel to Italy, on paper the most difficult game in the group, without the defender who knows Italian football the best and has proved himself against the Italian players, winning the league title there, is plain weird. There does not seem any rational justification for it. The Italians are mystified. They know how to defend better than anyone and know a fine defender when they see one.

I probably sound like a broken record but I don’t get why he’s played quite so little minutes. He started 19 games in the championship last season (I know we didn’t have much choice in playing young players), played really well on his debut against Bournemouth, had a blinder against Fulham at pride park, even started in a battling 0-0 draw at Craven Cottage unless I’m mistaken? And our midfield was always strong despite how limited we were in other positions. Was even the first to have his contract extended in the summer. Would like to see him heavily involved next season.

Personally I would rather have seen one of our own young players get the odd appearance instead of those from other clubs. I think a loan should really be better than, and offer something different to, what you already have. I haven’t seen anything from Springett and White yet to suggest that they are/do. I like Thomson. Not been at the heights he hit last season but thought he did well the last time we saw him. Hope he does well.

The thing is, in my opinion he ticks 2 key Warne boxes.
    1. High work rate. This is supposedly Warne's key requirement from any player
    2. Good range of passing. Warne apparently likes to mix it up, although in recent weeks it's been less of a mix and more hopeful punts.
We also have a small squad. The reluctance to use Tommo has been incredibly disappointing, especially when we've been missing our most important CM in recent weeks, our only experienced CM has been in desperate need of a rest for several games, and one of our other CMs was out injured for significant run of games.

Gutted in a way, because I think he'd offer more skill and ball retention than some of our other players. He's also a good little ratter when needed.
Not much point him staying though when all Warne wants to do is change the wingersand keep playing down the channels.

It's a bit unfortunate for Louie that his best position is the one currently occupied by our Player of the Season so far.
It's also difficult for him to come in and play anywhere near that level with a few snatched moments here and there.
But Louie is our future. If I were him, I'd be learning every little thing I could from McGoldrick and looking to be his natural successor.
