    We’ve got to be ambitious
every Derby team that ever got promoted was in the past.
it’s a good place to be a positive mind set.
With an owner that is ambitious and wants success because he’s a fan, and because he’s intimated that there is a Championship investor lined up, I think we will surprise a few.
it all depends on the quality of the signings and how they integrate and settle-in to the squad/area/expectations
im betting on Derby strengthening with top end Championship additions.

I think we’ll do very well indeed, without knowing who these additions will be but since I’m expecting some high quality, I’m going for a top six finish. We’re on an upward curve, the crap is firmly pushed behind us. COYR 😃

Ipswich Town finished 2nd in League One...We finished 2nd in League One. Did the Tractor Boys really spend that much money to get to the Premier League?

    Eh?
What's it got to do with either Boro or Wycombe what our budget is and why should we be checking it's OK with them?
Unless of course you believe the conspiracy theory that Gibson controls the EFL. 😀

In any season where you're not starting in the top flight, promotion is the goal. That's the beauty of football - we all begin equal, and there are always surprises. That's why we have hope, even if it's the hope that kills you. I get that many don't like them, but the genius of the playoffs if that it maintains interest for so many teams all the way through to near the season finale. I'd hope we would still be in with a chance of making them with a very few games to go, even if we don't quite get over the line. I'd really hope we do get over the line.
Between 5th and 12th for me.

I rated Jack Taylor as probably the best / fairest referee in the country, this game and his decision totally blew that theory out of the water, and most likely cost us the chance of ever lifting the cup in my lifetime. Still hurts, 48 years later..

Same. Ironic that either of those losing sides would almost certainly have performed better in the PL than the one that actually got there.
Baggies fans can moan as much as they like, but we beat them at home in the regular season, were robbed away, and finished 8 points above them. Plus, you know, we actually won. Not our fault they couldn't hit a cow's a**e with a banjo on the day.
I have mixed feelings on this one. When we finish 3rd, I think the playoffs are a sh** idea. When we finish 4th-6th then I think they're great... 😎

Walter Roulstone (1866–1953) was an English footballer who played for Derby County.[2]
William Roulstone was signed in 1886 by Sawley Rangers F.C. Very little is known about Sawley Rangers except they were founder members of the Derbyshire Football Association. Albert Williamson was only at Sawley Rangers for one season, 1886–87. Albert Williamson was on Derby County's books for the one season prior to the start of the Football League, 1887–88.[2][3][4]
Walter Roulstone made his League debut on 8 September 1888, playing at wing–half, at Pike's Lane, the then home of Bolton Wanderers. Derby County defeated the home team 6–3. Walter Roulstone appeared in 21 of the 22 League matches played by Derby County in season 1888–89. As a wing-half (20 appearances) he played in a midfield that achieved big (three–League–goals–or–more) wins on three separate occasions.[3]
He was the first player to make 100 league appearances with Derby County. His brother Frank was also a footballer. Although Derby County had had a poor season (1888–89), Roulstone was retained to play alongside the more experienced professionals being brought in during the close season in 1889. Roulstone stayed with Derby County for seven seasons leaving in 1894. He played 118 games becoming the First Derby County player to play 100 games for the club. He went to local non-league club Heanor Town in 1895.[5]

For the most part, the Trotters fans who have posted on here this season have been sound dudes. Our 'rivalry' goes back to the first ever league match day in 1888, when we played each other and you raced into a 3-0 lead before we pegged you back and eventually ran out 6-3 winners. I'm definitely rooting for Bolton in the playoffs.
Incidentally, my wife's great-great uncle played in that 3-6 game (Walter Raulstone).

Thanks guys! I personally am fully on board the Evatt train. He took us over when we had unpaid players, a low wage cap and has got us promoted from league 2 and competing to get back to the championship, bringing on younger players, playing nice football. A lot of our morons suggesting we should sack him if we don't go up but I don't see what that achieves personally, we've got better every year he's been in charge and that's despite losing James Trafford and Conor Bradley last summer who both have played regularly in the premier league this season. I'm dreading that it's Barnsley in the semis, they will limit our away allocation to 2000 again I imagine (but at least we're home 2nd leg this time) and we'll have played them 10 times in 3 seasons after these 2 games (won once and lost twice of the 8 so far) so I expect a nervy tight game. Having thumps Oxford 5-0 a couple of months ago I quite fancied them. We will see! I agree that we're probs the better team of the 4 but we all know that means very little in the playoffs so we need to be on it and hopefully our strikers take their chances when they come. Bet you're all so relieved it's done and dusted and can relax and wait for fixture release day now haha

There’s no need for your conspiracy theory around Elder’s contract having an extension trigger, he signed on a 3 year deal last summer. Perhaps Warne used Elder this season because…well…erm… he’s one of our players and contributed to our promotion this season. Radical idea I know

I don’t get this, if you finish third you deserve to go up mentally.
At the start of the season everyone knows the rules, top two you are promoted, next 4 positions get you into a knockout competition.

I wouldn't be offering 4 year contracts full stop.   Derby in L1 it would be hard not to be in or around the play offs so that wasn't such a risk but in thve championship it's not ridiculous to suggest we might be in a relegation fight next season and you really don't want changing manager to be unaffordable.
The only way Warne gets poached is if he isn't happy at Derby and takes a sideways or downwards step - if he did feel that way then it would probably be best  for him and us to part ways anyway.

    Newcastle 0 Derby County 1, 13 September 1969.
Roy McFarland scored the winner to shut up the Geordies around us yelling about Jimmy Smith.
The significance of the game was that, for the first time in my lifetime, Derby County went top of Division 1 that day.
The following week, we thrashed Tottenham 5-0 at Derby in front of the biggest crowd ever at the Baseball Ground. Everyone of a certain age remembers that game, but the Newcastle one sticks in my mind just as much.

October 21 1961.  Derby 2 Liverpool 0.   Mick Hopkinson from 60 yards !! (well it seemed like it from the 'boys' enclosure !!) and Bill Curry. 27000+ at the BBG. Ron Yeats putting Bill Curry into the railings in frustration.
September 24th 1966.  Derby 4 Huddersfield 3  Kevin Hectors home debut. Boy was that some debut !! Despite having 4 opposition trying to mark him he still managed to score and created the space for Durban to score 3. Little did we know then what the next 10 years would hold !!
November 1st 1969.  Derby 4 Liverpool 0. Can still see Hector and O'Hare bearing down on Lawrence in goal at the Ossie End for the fourth goal. 40993 at the BBG.
January 23rd 1971.  Derby 2 Wolves 1.  FA Cup 4th round. 40000+ at the BBG. 6" of mud and John O'Hare chesting in, in the 90th minute !!
Need I go on. Oh those memories.
