  1. 2 races in and it's as dull as ditchwater...The only excitement each race is in trying to guess which novel way the FIA can find to help Max - today it was the absolutely unncecessary safety car which took him from 20+ seconds adrift to right back into contention - as for the excuse that the GPS said Stroll's car was still on the track, do they not have radios? (or better yet, they could try looking at the damn cameras....). F1 is dying in front of our eyes and they don't seem to realise it..

  2. I watched a few minutes at the end of the FA Cup game - nearly puked when Micah Richards was fawning over Linekar while asking him about strikers - "Can you teach someone to have a striker's insticts Gary?" - surprised Lineker could sit down with Richard's great big head stuck so far up his bum.....

  3. The government are going to send an emergency alert to every phone in the country on April 23rd. It’s to test a new warning system designed to alert people if there is a large scale threat to life such as a flood (e.g. water or zombies). You’ll need to acknowledge the alert before you can do anything else on your phone - though you can disable the receipt of such messages if you’re so minded….

  4. Conte trying to get himself sacked - serious rant in his post match press conference after Spurs let a 3-1 lead slip against Southampton:

“They are used to it here, not playing for anything important. They don’t want to play under pressure, under stress.”

“This is Tottenham’s story. 20 years of the owner & they never win anything. Why?”

Actually he has a contract with the BBC according to the HMRC tribunal so there is mutuality of obligation. But it may not be a contract of service leave alone an employment contract. Either way it will depend what it says in that contract, if he has breached their guidelines and refuses to abide by them then I do not really see anyway out but termination.

That's a bit harsh - couldn't they just sack him?

    By Jove!  I've got it!

Why the hell didn't I think of this last night!

Chris Martin could do MOTD!  How bloody fantastic would that be!

Right... how do I start a new thread...

He'll have to join the queue behind Graham Norton, Alan Carr & Michael MacIntyre....

  7. A lot of folk are claiming that this is because the BBC (prompted by the government) don't like his politics - while that may be true with some in their management structure, the underlying issue here is that Lineker has brought the organisation unwanted publicity via his tweets (exacerbated by the BBC repsonse).

Most large companies will have policies stating that their employees shouldn't do anything that may damage the standing of the company (as an example, I have to do an annual online course reminding me of the ethics and behaviours that are expected of me by my employer) - the underlying message is "Don't do anything might might mean you're on the front-page of the papers".

In Lineker's case, he's the face of football on the Beeb - that position carries a fairly weighty responsibility to always behave in a way that protects the BBC from undue criticism - and the implication of that is that he should keep his rather big gob shut on matters such of this while he's still taking the millions from the Beeb....

Correct, I had no symptoms whatsoever, full flow, no discomfort. I was more than apprehensive when the nurse explained the biopsy procedure, but it was uncomfortable, but never painful.
Yes, I agree the doctors and nurses are amazing.
Pride Pharmacy in the hospital however, queued for two hours, 16 people in front of me, the pharmacist confirmed they had my medication, I was told to take a seat, and was called an hour later! Good job we traveled by bus otherwise my parking charges would have been substantial.

That pharmacy is a disgrace - not only outpatients waiting for hours, but members of staff (including nurses) that are trying to get people discharged from the hospital - no wonder there are complaints of no beds when they simply can't get people out of the door - and the worst thing is that if you're given a prescription by a doctor/consultant at the hospital, you HAVE to use the on-site pharmacy - you're not allowed to take the prescription to your local chemist. I once waited neatly 2 hours for Codeine - hardly a specialist drug....

Exactly, same here. I've been looking forward to this for weeks but in the end, if it hadn't been for Alonso and the AM I've probably have wandered off and done some chores.

Don't get me wrong, I love F1 but without even vaguely competitive racing at the top, its just a noisy spectacle and currently not a very interesting one at that. It's just deja vu... RB fastest by a country mile, Perez not in the same league as Verstappen, Ferraris going pop (which at least saved them the bother of making a catastrophic tactical decision to destroy Leclerc's chances) and Mercedes just nowhere near being competitive (again).

I'll no doubt tune in to every race as usual but I think the sheer amount of time taken browsing my phone is usually an indicator with how engaged with it all I am.

Just hope that someone can come up with some meaningful upgrades or magic a decent car out of somewhere, There's only so much entertainment to be had watching the 'Battle for 10th'.

I thought Bernie Ecclestone was crackers when he suggested spraying water on the track 10 laps from the end of races to liven it up a bit - perhaps he simply had a premonition of the current issues.....
