We went to visit mother today at the nursing home.  It's been hard watching her slowly fade away to dementia and today was particularly difficult for me.  Her body is broken down, but she is a stubborn proud one and doesn't want anyone to help her get out of a chair, even if she can't, she will.  My wife and i couldn't really talk to her, because she was rambling half sentences of what i don't know, but some parts were of her mother who she sees come to her regularly, she claimed she was waiting for her with dinner on the table at 8pm.
During the drive home we were talking about her and how her situation is unbearable for her and that maybe it was best that she not suffer for much longer and.. you know.  i feel awful about feeling like that.
This evening i got a call from my sister telling me that mother had fallen while trying to stand up after dinner, around 8pm and that she had hurt herself so badly that an ambulance was called.  My niece lives in the same town as the hospital they brought her to and she stood watch, while waiting to hear what xrays would show.  Her leg is broken just below the hip ball and she will have to have an operation in a few days if they figure that she can take it and in the meantime morphine at regular intervals.  What my niece then told me had my jaw drop to the floor, they would send mother back to the nursing home because there is no room in any hospital, even the hallways are taken.  We are driving over there again tomorrow, i doubt she will recognize me, but i just want to hold her hand and be there.
Listen, i am just venting, i don't know where to do that except here.

If someone has slow onset dementia, has never touched a computer or used the complexity of a phone enjoying the huge amount of data and copious remotes to go with it is irrelevant. My grandma was set up with all singing, all dancing TV.  She put's on Radio Derby and watches The Chase.  There will be something far more comforting clicking a button to put on a radio in the comfort of their room than getting frustrated with surround sound, hundreds of channels etc .  Vinyl was outdated, Now people can't get enough.  A radio service, like public libraries, is fundamental to any educated society that cares without the oversaturation of subject you get online or interactive and more important provides access via another route to all.

I would think that there are a lot of kids that the children’s shirts are too small for so end up with the adults shirts that have the gambling logos on them (I stated wearing adult shirts when I was around 11 I think). I wore shirts with Pedigree on them. Fortunately this didn’t affect me (I don’t drink alcohol) but I imagine it could of had an affect on others. Just because the logos aren’t on children’s shirts doesn’t mean gambling isn’t being normalised to children.
The last couple of seasons the club did sell adult shirts unsponsored (I bought them) but this was not very well publicised (in my opinion) and were not viewable in the stadium shop (you had to ask for them at the counter) or available online without requesting them. Also last season during the mid-season sale the unsponsored away shirts were full price but the shirts with 32Red were cheaper (I know this for a fact). How is that right?

We’re never going to be allowed to forget Zamora’s goal are we?!
I was at every England game at the tournament and I thoroughly enjoyed it (even more so than Euro 2020 last year). The atmosphere at the games was really good. No slagging off players or obscene chants just everyone getting behind the team.
I thought I would never see a team I support win a trophy. It was an unbelievable feeling. So proud of the players.

I think it raises brand awareness as much as it establishes a link between sport and gambling. When I were a kid just about the only gambling I'd heard of was horse racing and the Pools. Gambling has expanded dramatically into sports and life in general. I had a problem with fruit machines when I was much younger. I gambled too much on them lost much more than I should, it wasn't even going to make me rich if I won. I consider myself fairly intelligent and somewhat resistant to 'marketing bs' but ... I gambled to win even when it wasn't going to solve any money problems I had - which I didn't really. I stopped before I lost an enormous (to me) amount.
I don't want it to be normal to gamble in the way it currently is, I don't think it's a 'good thing'. In the same way I don't want alcohol over-use to be normalised. If everyone else was also not 'personally influenced' by 'shirt sponsors' as you then they would be very limited in the way of them advertised. Maybe just a brand logo - why do they do that? ?
I don't care that lots of other 'addictions' are seen as acceptable or normal, I don't want my Club to be joining in for the extra money.

Making a decision not to put gambling companies on shirts is not stopping the vast majority who don't have a problem from having a bet.
It's deciding not to be a part of a system designed to normalize gambling, which adds more and more young people to the list of those who do have problems and helps the gambling companies hoover up more cash.
I'm all for the petition, help turn off the ducking hoover (and I speak as a regular and reasonably happy gambler).
As for those who say we'll do it when we can afford it: if you only have principles when they are not uncomfortable then you don't have principles. And I don't believe that gambling money is the difference between survival and liquidation.

It's not about banning gambling or alcohol. It's about making it less socially acceptable.
I hate the link between gambling and making sports more exciting.

I’m not too happy about my season ticket price. Even with my 10+ season discount my renewal has increased (from my 2020/21 renewal) due to the stadium recategorisation and the club getting rid of cheaper season tickets for disabled supporters (we paid category D price regardless of where we sat (although South Stand supporters paid category E). Feels unfair to be honest because as a wheelchair user I’m limited to where I can sit and now pay the top price in the stadium.
My car park pass has also increased by 62% from 2020/21 (although it does now include cup matches (no guarantee we will be in the cups long enough to get our money’s worth out of that)).
