Was at the game last night. Ipswich were the best team without the ball that we have faced all season. Aggressive and sharp and so so quick to close down - giving our players no time to pick a pass and generally restricting our options - causing the panic and stray passes to happen both in defence and attack. I’d love us to press with that tempo but we just don’t have enough of the right kind of players presently. knight being out will definitely hurt us in this area.
 
I don’t think they were that great with the ball last night and didn’t create many clear cut chances - but they will be definitely up there come the end of the season because of the pace and aggression they have through out their team.
Disappointing but not really a surprise result. On to the next one….
 
 

Ipswich are looking the team to beat this year but you have a settled squad and way of playing that’s been built over nearly a full calendar year now and he was backed in the transfer window to sign the players he wanted. You have the right squad balance and depth, it’s easy to see why you were preseason favourites. 
Derby on the other hand only had 5 players in June, 1 week less preseason than everyone else. We had to cobble a team together under transfer restrictions and now the new owner has assessed things we’ve changed manager and having to adapt to his style. A lot has been made of we’ve signed Hourihane and Collins and we have one of the leagues strongest squads, we are a mix of 30+ or 21 and unders, the strike force last night had not played professional football before this season and it showed. We have no depth, we actually don’t have a genuine right back at the club. But it is what it is, we nearly didn’t have a club a few months ago and we now have to work to a business plan which means we cannot spend transfer fees, which is why only Barkhuizen and Wildsmith are the only players in the 23-28 age bracket in our squad.
That being said while neither team was at their best last night there wasn’t a lot between the teams which gives me hope. First half of the season was always about staying in touch, we hope and expect to come on strong in the second half of the season, i think looking at this league we have a very good chance of playoffs, we will likely have too much ground to make up for autos. Playoffs would be reasonable for us considering where we were in preseason. Promotion would be great this season, but realistically it might take 2 years, as long as it doesn’t take 3 like you boys ?

I can’t even bother with an angry emoji. That rates as the worst post of the day.
A new striker, in a drought at a new club and he bags his opener. You write that ? 
 
For the record .. it was a beautifully weighted ball from McGoldrick. He was 1 V 1 against an advancing goalie with a split second to make his decision. It was a sweet clean shot reversed against the goalies movement slotted neatly in the back of the net. No panic, no fluff, no snatched blast. Good finish end of story. 

Took Steve Howard 8 games to score his first goal, he didn’t do too bad after that 

We don't score, don't have a plan B and look short of stamina. I expect LR to go if we don't sort these basics out after 10 games. 

I’ll argue with anyone who thinks Rosenior is to blame for the lack of goals. A manager’s job is to come up with tactics which see his team create more chances than the opposition, which we have done in every match.  Beyond that the responsibility lies with the players.

Love how we’ve gone from “thankful to have a football club wherever we finish” to “WE SHOULD BE BEATING TEAMS LIKE SHREWSBURY” in 3 weeks. 
Never change Derby fans. 
 
 

One thing I'll wager, When we play them at ours we'll beat them, We have no divine right to beat teams like Shrewsbury...look at the teams over the years who've been relegated from the Championship with teams far and away better than what we started with and most of them are still in League 1.
This is one physically hard division and we'll be playing more teams some believe we should be beating...I wish football was that simple, It'll come good..lets not rush around, LR knows what's what this will turn into a good learning curve for future games this season.

People need to calm down. Shrewsbury might not be a "good" side but they're an extremely difficult side to break down, stats show that and we created more dangerous chances than they've conceded in all 3 of their games put together.

Most people who have watched the academy games over a number of years would describe Stretton as a natural poacher, but limited in general play. This is a major reason why Plange was involved so much more last season (other than the fact he was out injured for a large percentage of games). Stretton was used in 10 of the first 13 games in 21/22 (all competitions) prior to injury.
42 goals and 4 assists in 58 youth games since the start of the 18/19 season further back up this point. Great goal scorer, limited build-up play.
He's had one loan spell, scoring 3 goals in just 173 minutes of football.
In our first team, he has so far scored 1 and assisted 1 in 480 minutes of football
He hasn't had much of a pre-season, so to write him off after a couple of 20 minute cameos whilst building up match fitness is premature.

Genuine question - would you prefer Stretton to do well and score goals on his loan or be proved right on your view of his ability?!
