A few stand outs for me.
Rooney looks like he has been playing mens footy for 10 years or more. I like him a lot, that number 34 shirt fits him nice.
Knight is a baller, great to see him further up field and played well.
Sibley proved if you play him he can win games.
    Dobbin is class.
David McGoldrick, I honestly thought he was outstanding today, I really hope he stays fit.

Just got back and I really enjoyed that. Haven’t read the comments so I don’t know if anyone has mentioned them, but I thought Smith and Thompson were really very good tonight. The team had a nice balance to it.

Also note PPS is a cashless stadium now, so only card & mobile payments accepted.
(when it was announced we were going cashless the website didn't actually mention the ticket office, just  'Concourse Refreshment Kiosks, Betting Stations, and Hospitality facilities', but I'd assume it must also include ticket purchases)
Are you going along tonight, or will it be a kashless stadium too?

Amazing that only a matter of weeks ago we were days, possibly hours from being wiped from the face of the earth, we’re still in enormous debt and yet some fans are saying we should go out and buy a striker like we’ve magically turned into a normal football club again.

Fact of the matter at the moment is that Bird, Hourihane and Smith simply don’t work as a midfield trio. They all want it to feet, want to come short to the ball, want to play it relatively simple and recycle possession. None of them want to make runs, carry the ball, beat a man, and only Hourihane wants to get a shot off. Sibley, therefore, has to start unless Didzy comes in instead for one of them. We’ve only remotely looked dangerous in the games I’ve seen (Oxford, Barnsley and Shrewsbury) when Sibley has been on the pitch. The sooner Rosenior realises this trio doesn’t work the better.

Lots of interesting stuff in this matchday thread.
I agree with those who say the midfield balance isn't right. There may be three individually gifted players there but they are just too similar to work effectively as a unit. One of Sibley or Knight should always be part of that mix, otherwise Collins is going to continue to be isolated at centre forward and his head is going to drop soon. You can see it in his body language already.
I also noticed that Dobbin and Sibley drew fouls and bookings out of Shrewsbury defenders within minutes of coming on, just by turning and running with the ball. Do that in the first half and you've two nervous defenders on a booking making life easier for us. We need someone who doesn't play it safe on the pitch from the start, imo.
Other than that, I'll take the draw against a well-organised defensive unit who fought hard for each other.
Uninspiring football, but a point on the road is better than none.

It's inconceivable to imagine that we will continue to struggle to score goals with Collins, Barkhuizen, Mendez-Laing, McGoldrick, Sibley and Dobbin as options especially if you add the set piece quality of Hourihane. And as we all know the best way to combat teams that park the bus is to score first.
One defeat from our first 5 competitive games, 1 loss in 3 away from home, 7 points from 4 league games, close to 2 points per game which over a season gives you 92 points and only 3 goals conceded. Last night was frustrating but lets be honest, there's plenty to be positive about if youre that way inclined.

Just when I thought I couldn’t love him any more…
We were getting the train back from the Commonwealths last night and the train stopped at New St. My son was sitting facing the door, wearing a Derby training top.  This guy walked past George and patted him on the shoulder and said hi, then sat on the seats behind. I whispered who was that? and it was only Curtis bloody Davies.
So I popped my head round to ask if I could say hello (he’d signed a shirt for George recently and I wanted to say thanks) and he was unbelievably friendly. It’s 25 minutes back to Sutton and we chatted the whole way. I backed off and sat down initially as he was with his daughter, but he was leaning over the seats and really happy to talk.
I can’t remember everything we talked about (I was a bit giddy!) but he said Netflix should have done a documentary on us and listed all the dramas since he’s been at the club. One thing I didn’t know it had forgotten is 8 or 9 people got food poisoning in America on the pre-season when Cocu joined. Apparently the food was inedible and they were ordering McDonalds on Uber Eats.
He seemed put out that the existing players’ deals were last to be sorted out. His words were that the club sorted out the new signings and there was this much left over for us. Didn’t seem salty though and said other clubs wanted to talk to him but he always wanted to stay, so made excuses to avoid speaking to them. He would like a final year at Orient though.
Interestingly he hopes DC will appoint football people for football roles, rather than finance people. I asked if he meant Steven Pearce and he did, doesn’t seem happy that he’s still there.
There was loads more, I might post again if I remember anything interesting. But I was blown away how friendly he was, he’s a lovely man and I’m pretty sure we’re now best friends. I’m definitely going to invite him to my birthday party!

I recall Steve McClaren's swashbuckling teams of 2013-15 and 16/17 struggling to break down teams who sat in and played on the break/direct/long ball etc, and losing a number of games 1-0. People used to moan about "no Plan B" at a time when we were playing some of the best football at Derby since the Jim Smith peak years. We couldn't solve the problem then, and now after 4 games and working under an EFL business plan, folk (not on here) are screaming for the head of a manager 4 games into his career because he hasn't solved it yet while he's trying to rebuild the playing side of the club. And we're 7th. I f'kin' give up with some of our fans.

I'd like to see McGoldrick given at least 30 minutes. We seem to be lacking the guile to open this lot up and I feel like he's the man to provide it.

Kinder reacted to Donegal Ram in Eiran Cashin
Many of us seen glimpses of Eiran's qualities in pre season last year but, the position we were in couldn't promote him to the first team.
His progression once he had the chance to play has been remarkable. Saturday was my first time I have seen Derby play live since lockdown and so first time seeing Cashin play. His MOM display on Sat was even more remarkable because of his age, position and obvious experience. The most impressive thing for me was how he marshalled the defense both physically and verbally. He looked like the seasoned pro who had been in promotion winning teams of the past. Stearman played his part but, cashin was heads above everyone literally.
Not often as a Derby and Ireland supporter that you can get properly excited but, here I am.
    Well played, keep it up.
    Thanks Mr Clowes.
