Sometime in life you have to take the opportunities that come your way. If I was Dajaune I'd be trying to get back to Derby and get in the matchday squad.

When he was sent out on loan we had an in form Collins and the prospect of signing another striker before the end of the Jan window, which would've left him with less opportunity and just some minutes in the u21s. However, things have panned out differently, Collins out for a while, our other strikers all injured, we've just signed Gayle up as emergency cover, but there's space for a plan B striker in the squad.

Yes Barks and Sibley might do a job there, but they aren't specialist strikers. Having Gayle as the main threat and Dajaune as his back-up (also learning some tips from the former PL striker) is much more beneficial to us and him, in my opinion.

Agreed. He would be a wildcard, but he's fit, young and strong. Every other striker we have is physically compromised.  I get thar the responsibility could be immense for such a youngster, but this could be managed.  If he performed at all well the benefits are huge for all. If he struggles, it is still a massive learning opportunity that he can grow from, provided he's supported well.

This is a striker crisis.  No one knows if he is ready but he is 'next man up'. Warne talking up the value of a specialist CF on the one hand but also talking about playing Nat or Barks is contradictory.

We at least need the option. What if gayle and waggy break down?

    Bring him home.

  2. 1Wildsmith 6  1 clanger, 1 decent save.  I had almost forgot his deep set pieces that had become a thing.

35Nelson 7.5  As usual, quietly goes about his business. Mr consistent.

5Bradley 8 extra mark for that goaline clearance.  Seemed to time and direct his headers better. Decent on the ball. Mostly decisive and more physical. Not quite the beast we expected but less apologetic in the challenge. Looking more of a leader.

6Cashin 7.5  Suitably tenacious.  So important to starting off our play, as we saw when he was out.

    24Nyambe 6.5 Battled Well.

    11Smith

8Bird 6.5 lovely long ball to NML.

32Adams 6.5 superb effort. Surprisingly good in the air. Dallied on tbe ball once but injury might have stifled his ability to drive forward.

20Elder 6 Looking more confident and combative.  Still don't see how he could have been a wing back but at last looking decent left back at this level.

2Wilson  7 The Buffalo! He is a delightful sight stampeding down the wing.  Keeps the ball so well and drives us forward with great skill and a genuine threat.

11Méndez-Laing 7 obviously lost up front but did his best and another assist.

7Barkhuizen 6.5  Another who seemed to suffer from the changes up top, but he did drive at them quite well at times.

17Sibley 7 Point for the winner.  Such an instinctive finish.  So pleased for him.

Bloody hell how many people did Collins have in with him at the Scan yesterday? Seems like everybody knows how it went

Sounds like a whole shift of radiographers.

  4. 1Wildsmith 6.5 I instantly felt more comfortable with him back in.

    24Nyambe  6.5 Solid enough.

2Wilson  6  Poor defending for the goal, but was so good thereafter going forward.

5Bradley 6.5 Showed a bit more strength, won plenty of headers.   Him or Nelson should have been out to challenge the goal scorer.

35Nelson 7 once moved away from lcb was his usual Imperious self. Apart from the goal. Wins so many headers. A few aimless long balls.

23Ward 6 couple of decent balls in.

7Barkhuizen Part of the increased threat in 2nd half.  That sliced shot seemed purely about not trusting his left foot.

32Adams 6.5 Tough and determined. Got fouled  so many times.

    16Thompson 6 usual scampering cameo.

4Hourihane 6.5 Great free kick which was well saved, some decent dead balls generally.

8Bird 7  Really nice first time finish and tried to create.

17Sibley 6  poor first half. As the lwb did not beat his man or get a cross in.

20Elder 6 no time to make any kind of impression.

11Méndez-Laing 7 Struggled first half as did the whole team, as the formation seemed to stifle us.

    9Collins  5  Very little service

9Collins  5  Very little service. Usual effort. Caught offside several times, although I haven't seen if this was fair and refereeing seemed very poor.

31Vickers: 7 Doesn’t have the on-pitch personality of JW but every bit as good of a keeper. A critical punched clearance and 3 regulation saves. 2 poor kicks straight into touch.

35Nelson: 8 I’d want this man alongside me in the trenches. He’s my captain.,

5Bradley: 7.5 His rehab is almost complete and we’re all erasing his jelly-legs early days. Epitomised the spirit of the day with a British Bulldog showing.

6Cashin: 8 Tenacity, guile & perpetual motion. Never stops working because he has no off switch.

23Ward: 6.5 3 or 4 pretty crosses but has to make more of a contribution for me.

24Nyambe: 6.0 Late legs but filled me with relief & reassurance in the nervous nineties.

32Adams: 8 His name is Ebrima "Ebou" Adams; such was his impact that already the “Ebouuuuuuuuu” a la “Poooooooom” spontaneously rang up as the travelling Rams acknowledged an impressive debut wherein the Smiling Assassin blocked, tackled and recycled possessions with a graceful menace. Went off with cramp but an exceptional addition who brings stonewall solidity.

    16Thompson :  6 Wasp-like late legs.

8Bird 🦅 : 8 I’m gutted that he’s leaving. His press & pass through the eye of a needle was a moment of high quality. Should have scored when he danced a jig past the Charlton back line only to stroke it wide.

    4Hourihane: 6 Flappy, floppy paddle.

17Sibley: 7.5 Presence and determination & started several raids out left.

20Elder: 6.5 Telling interceptions and long-ranging clearances in the nervous nineties but always seems a bit flat-footed to me.

11Méndez-Laing: 7.5 Won the match in 31 minutes. Warne better pray hard for NML’s quick recovery.

    7Barkhuizen: 6.5 Insufficient impact & sideways running 🏃

    2Wilson 6 Late legs.

9Collins 6.5 I love Collo’s heart and work rate but quite often he looks like he’s some random chap in his own private running race that just happens to be on a football pitch where a game is simultaneously taking place. I hold Warne responsible for this not Collo. Can’t really recall Collo with the ball under control the entire 90.

An ugly win and spot-on tactics because Charlton are a bunch of bone-splitters. We effectively showed a moment of class then brought the shutters down and for that Warne & his staff take credit. The mutual love in the camp is great but the staff’s job is also to instil some craft and skill and a degree of eye-pleasing product and that is not so much in evidence and it’s no use saying wait until we get up for that because it’ll be too late.
The attached picture epitomises the game yesterday in microcosm. I’m pleased for Sonney Bradley who had his best game in a Ram’s shirt.

Always enjoy your reviews, but this is a cracker!

Just listened to the Gaffers post match interview. Really honest and thoughtful. He clearly cares for his players and loves the Club. Well done Paul and thanks for all you are doing to get promotion despite the wrist slashers constant carping and sniping, mainly from Sunday league arm chair experts.

But what has he got in that enormous rucksack ( apart from 3 massive points)?

There's a 'Championship Pot' and a 'League 1 Pot' depending on the outcome at the end of the season. Some targets may even appear in both pots

Potty mouth! This confirms it; our recruitment has gone potty.

Young strikers from Norwich and Brighton I’ve heard recently

plus exploring championship players with few minutes - Gregory , Juke , Joseph at Leeds, and Maja at West Brom are some of the names I’ve heard.

Oxford guy has been allegedly concentrating on summer recruitment.

Very interesting. One from each category (youngster and champ exp) would be amazing push for promotion! Obviously not realistic given that we expect are least one other of Washington or Waghorn to be available next month.

I like the sound of the range of options and reckon youngsters will be lower down the pick list.

2 striker targets - ones a small fee + ones loan ( Prem - heard three names that it  could be)

1-4 players possibly going out - most likely ward and or fornah

Sounds like a busy day. Care to share the names you heard?

  11. 31Vickers 6

2Wilson 6 Gave the ball away a few times but kept going. Lovely ball down the line to NML from which he crosses for the winner.

    35Nelson 6.5

    6Cashin 6.5

17Sibley 6.5 Determined display and some encouraging driving runs.

7Barkhuizen 5.5 good early runs, then nowt really.

4Hourihane 5  Time to bench him and only bring on as an attacking sub. Cannot get near opponents nor drive past them.  I have never liked him and Bird together and never will.

22Fornah 6 hope he doesn't leave, more to come from him.

8Bird 🦅 7 Extra point for the fab free kick. Otherwise struggled in that two.

5Bradley 6 Looks more confident and we looked more dangerous from set pieces with him up there.

27Blackett-Taylor 5 Looked a little lost, no understanding with team mates yet.  Didn't get given the ball much.  Too soon to judge, but underwhelming first impression.

16Thompson 6  Much needed dynamism but didn't get on the ball much.

11Méndez-Laing 7  Tireless shift where not a lot clicked but he covered so much ground and kept demanding more from his team mates. Looking more of a leader these days. What a lovely cross for the goal.

9Collins 7 superb finish. He's got bags of character.

Check my post history. I have a link to him and was the first one to call his transfer to us.

Really sad, thought he would come good. He has tidy feet and a good passing range. He drove forward so well for the goal he set up, was it vs. Bristol R ?
