In a different role, I think he still has a lot to offer. A attacking role in a midfield trio without such demands on pressing/defending that he had in Warne's team, and he should be still flourishing.

    Good luck for the lad.

Finishing around the box is unreal, see the Burton winner. Is that what you mean? Always wondered what he might do floating around up there instead of getting run past in the deeper role.  Such a quality player and person, but I think his time is up.

Think he's a good character and shown real resilience to come back from his ACL injuries but I think League 1 was and is his level.Watching the wingers in the Championship this season ,I fear for us if he gets exposed .

This is my fear too. Only really cover at CB really.

Dignified exits for Smith & Hourihane, two model professionals who would not really contribute in the Champ. Wierd exit for Wildsmith.

I honestly dk how Forsyth gets an extension triggered from last seasons appearances.

Just had a look. 26 games. Fair play. Although, a lot of that was the injury to Elder I seem to recall.  Thinking about it, if fully fit, a better CB than Bradley, in some ways. Again, I think I just think lack pace at the back is our weakness with only Nyambe who you would say is quick.

I honestly believe he’s one of those who breathe the club with every breath. He will be cover almost certainly, but his legs haven’t gone, he could stand in, in 3 different positions and give a good account of himself.

Sure great guy.  CB cover maybe but another slow one.  Can't see him at LB or LWB at this level.

I think he had the option of a one year extension…

Well, I don't get that either.  Incredibly likeable, amazing comeback from injuries and some great performances in LG 1 but is very close to retirement.   If anything, we need more mobile pacy defenders to balance things out back there.  Seems overly generous from the club to me.

Inevitably, as the downstream effects of the concussion scandal in American football, we have now reached the point when football is being phased out in English youth football: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/articles/cd190dn549yo. Soon 11 year olds won't be allowed to head the ball.

There is so much money in football, and the potential for law suits so massive, that it will likely be banned across all football within a decade.

The beautiful game evolves. We will quickly adjust. Kids a few decades hence won't believe people risked brain damage to play, and the ball will spend much more time on the floor. Maybe a "head height" rule like in 5-a-side (is that still a thing?) will be implemented. I feel we'll miss something, but I understand the reasons behind it.

It has to change and it will be interesting but yes tbe beauty of a powerful header will be missed.  The game will miss this variation but tbe technical evolution will be fascinating.

Heading the ball is the issue, not the clashes of heads, flailing elbows and things? Sure.

For what it’s worth, just like the NFL, know the risks. Don’t break a fundamental part of the game.

Heading tbe ball causes repeated countre coup injury as tbe brain, floating in cerebralsp8nal fluid bounces of the bony structures at tbe front of tbe inside of tbe skull. So, yes heads, elbows are bigger issues in comparison but tbe daily repeated damage of heading is significant.

Did he actually say that? i watched the interview but can't remember verbatim so he may well have done, but I just remember him saying about speaking to them when they've returned from Vegas and didn't commit to last week? We as fans knew when they returned, so put 2 and 2 together.

I've just checked. Interview was sat may 4th. Said next week after discussions we will do the released list, so actually didn't say it would be released. So yeah, may have misinterpreted that.

Why haven't we published the list yet?

    1. PW said a few months back that no new contracts would be offered until after the season.

    2. Following the last game the lads had a couple of days on the razz and then went to Vegas for more razzing. Now they are back PW can inform, face to face, those who are to be let go and start negotiations with the agents of players he wants to keep.

Is it really any surprise we haven't published the list yet?

It is a little surprising only because Warne himself said it would be out last week. But it may only turn out to be a couple of days late so no big deal.

Barnsley fans seem to like him overall. Judging by their comments, he can pass & dictate play against open teams, gets goals & assists (10 & 5 this season), and has loads of MoM awards, but is slow and inconsistent. He's a played shedload of 90' games this season, so he must be in good nick. When he has played in the Championship, his stats were pretty bad and Barnsley loaned him back to Oxford in L1. Is he ready for another crack?
Sounds like he wanted out in January though. Maybe our coaching & fitness staff can knock him into shape. As previous posters have said, he's 25 and free, and we desperately need midfielders.

Slow and not good when pressed. Questionable attitude. Can't tackle.  Inconsistent passing.  These comments from that link are not getting me enthused.

Took on NML after he was sacked

Nah, that was Liam. Had already been taken on by Weds before that too. But, good example of how people are not always what they seem and / or can change.

  12. Grimsby fans singing, we piss on your fish, we do we do, back in a cup game around 2006, whilst John Oster outclassed us.

More shocking than being beat was their Peter Sutcliffe song. Dark, dark humour.

Injury free for most of the season. Captains the U21s almost every game. When he hasn't played for them, it's typically due to being with the first team or with N.Ireland U21s.

I can see why Warne hasn't given him the chances I think he needs to continue his development - notably he tendency to pick up yellows. He should be loaned out to L2 next season.

Interesting. Sounds like he hasn't really kicked on this year, perhaps because, as you imply, he needs the challenge of a loan.

Obviously as a captain, has good personal qualities and if we're offering a deal he clearly has some potential.

What type of player is he, a defensive midfielder?

    good news

Is he highly rated? I know was training with first team in the summer and he had a few bench appearances since which would indicate he is. However, people who cover U21s rarely seem to mention him.

Any Smiths fans in Derby ranks? I always find myself singing: 'He was a sweet and tender Hourihane.'

Yes, definitely although i grew up and Morrissey didn't and may have even regressed.  Still one of the best bands for me.  For Warnes interviews Bigmouth Strikes Again, for tonight's game Please, Please, Please let me get what I want.  For a lot of our players, still Ill.  Hopefully, the season won't be a case of 'you just haven't earned it yet baby'.
