Given what we experienced as a club I don’t want to see any other fans going through it. What this does highlight once more are the failings of the governing bodies. How have the EFL allowed them to sign players before the HMRC payment was paid? Surely waiting a few days to be sure all scheduled payments were met THEN allowing the signings would have been sensible?

    Agreed, what a mess.

Must admit, I found it odd that players would be keen to go there under this ownership. Wing in particular is thought to have good offers, even champ options, so terrible decision.

Don't like seeing this, but can't deny that promotion rivals in trouble feels helpful. We've had our chaos and are still having to tolerate the pain of being humbled and having to live within tight limits but at least we are stable.

Wonder if we would go for Ola Shodipa plays anywhere behind the striker, decent player at this level, he’s 25 and was on trial with reading but missed there last friendly to the surprise of there fans. Reading now been hit with a new embargo so can’t sign anymore players.

Really? Where have you heard that?

So if I was to offer you £1m a year to do your current job but out in Saudi Arabia, would you take it, knowing that 2 or 3 years work would mean never working again?

May have already been said, sorry if so, but this is not a fair comparison because elite footballers of the type going to Saudi Arabia are already set for life, free from toil if they choose. Most of us are not.

Also, there is always more than one motivation for anything we choose to do.

Odd that they’ve put out a bit of info about it but no scorers or anything and there’s been nothing from the Derby. With all the boredom and sudden lack of output from the club I’m finally joining @i-Ram‘s Twitchers

Dinna worry. It's secret game because of all the foreign trialists from Barcelona B. Big Trav won't know owt, so don't pester him.

Not sure Boro would want him playing for a competitor in the same division ?

Why not? Not unheard of. Lend him to a team you're not expecting to be in promotion mix. Don't let him play against you. He scores against other rivals and develops, could be a win-win.

Josh Coburn likely to go out on loan again from Middlesbrough after a good spell at Bristol Rovers last year. Would be ideal to fill the void at striker & much more appealing than Rhodes. Good size, with pace & power

Good spot that, 10 goals in 30 something games for a 20 year old is impressive. Looking online he's been injured in preseason and that's prevented them deciding whether to loan him out or not. They may prefer a champ loan for him of course.

These suggestions do offer optimism that loans can work out very well at this level, even though often  you are having to take a punt on a raw talent with so little experience.

Crikey. I wonder how much is our finances and how much is the limited business plan? Puts things in perspective as many thought we might be able to do 2 or 3 signings at that sort of price or even 1 bigger one. Always good to know where we are and adjust our expectations accordingly. Wish I'd known this in May!

I think he made a key point  that there’s virtually no money changing hands, even in the league above.

What that has caused is a lot more teams in the running for every player because the absence of a fee makes that player more affordable. The knock on to that is that those players we would like which would improve us all now suddenly have a stack of Championship teams also after them.

Means whilst we are still attractive as a supposed big fish in a smaller pond, who may even be able to get close on wages with some deals, we still can’t offer a better level of football.

Sure, I guess I'm just disappointed that we seem stuck in this market. Whilst not everything can be predicted, the financial situation in the champ is not a surprise, and yet Warne seems to be expressing exactly that.  What was our plan to deal with this difficult market? I.e. tap into other markets. We have recruited well, mostly proven at this level, but now we are stuck and some creativity is needed. It's difficult and riskier and it's unlikely anyone can generate a unique solution but everything we hear just points to us looking in the champ and LG 1 and its a bit stale.  Not panicking, just wondering what recruitment guy is bringing above warnes knowledge of the leagues. Early days on that  I guess and it will evolve, perhaps my expectations had been unrealistically raised.

For those expecting/wanting a Clarke-Harris or Nombe I think this is Warne downplaying that expectation.
Also the ideal age bracket is seemingly being relaxed so that we can get someone in. It’s probably going to be Rhodes or someone of that ilk. An experienced striker who is less than the ideal choice but will still provide an option in the squad.

Striker as a priority, then a left sided wing back (maybe not convinced by Wilson on that side after all?) and if possible (loan?) a number 10.

Agreed and it's disappointing news. Clearly only shopping in lg1 or champ. Why are we surprised by the market? We've had time to widen the net, but it seems Warne might be very cautious on that front. So We've done well so far, but attacking wise it is sounding a bit desperate,  We've gone way down warnes list to those he's not that sure about.

Waghorn's a ship that's sailed now, as the past few seasons show but there really wasn't anything wrong with his record at Ipswich and his first 2 seasons here

His propensity to miss open goals massively overstated. He's a winger/striker not outright goalscorer so it comes with the territory. A 5.3 shots per goal ratio in his first season here and 9.Something in his second similar to (marginally better than) the output Sam Smith managed for Cambridge and that was without the team being setup around him.

Now he really was a player who was judged more harshly because of his transfer fee.

    He'd finally be a Snip.

Only 2 or 3 more incomings with 2 of them being loans.

Gives some credence to the possibility of the budget being no bigger this season.

Possibly. Maybe Clowes was referring to the wage budget, which will be one of the highest in this league. Did he actually say the budget had increased?

  13. How to people think he compares to Leigh Gregory? Played 38 times in weds promotion campaign, scored 10.  When on loan with us he didn't seem to have any particular strengths outside of the box or be that strong in the air, but that may not be accurate. Gregory is taller, but similarly seemed to lack pace.

Collins frustrates me, but I suppose my point is that he's decent enough to be in our squad at this level and I hope he thrives in the new set up as many predict.

I honestly don’t mind this at all. Brown’s an exciting prospect and I’d much rather we utilise a homegrown ‘Dobbin’ than waste a loan slot and fee.

Totally agree. Makes sense to give Brown a go before entering loan market for another untried raw talent that isn't ours. The balance of striking options will be important, if we get Rhodes then the 4th striker would need pace and power, although Nat could provide that.

Slight update, 1 more Striker in on a permanent deal, with Dajaune Brown given the first few games to see how he performs. Warne a massive fan of him and wants to use him as the 4th striker. However a loan striker is not off the cards. Creative number 10 looks like it’ll be a loan. Robinson and Thommo impressive and will be rotating in that midfield 2/3

Is the permanent striker to be signed this week? Do you think its Rhodes? Any poss names for the no.10?
