Warne is a poor technical coach. There is no future with him that leads to success.
But Clowes is seemingly making his stand.
He got rid of Rosenior which was a huge error, but one Clowes is reluctant to admit by doubling down and sticking with Warne.

A thread was created just a few days before Warne was appointed, asking a simple question: If not Rosenior, then who would you hire? There were very few people with genuine alternatives to Rosenior. Not a single person suggested Warne.

Even on the day of Warne's appointment, there were 85 people with enough foresight to know Warne wouldn't be good enough

Some good points were also made in this thread, just 1 month into this job.

I watched in on RamsTV and I couldn't believe how much Barker kept going on about the Exeter game as this miracle performance, that we had somehow fallen from a heavenly state in just four days. As I recall, we beat a tragically poor Exeter team - but not exactly with ease.
When were we last actually good? I'll give you the second half of the first half of the Posh game but besides that I cannot think of a time. This has been a steady descent into abject mediocrity.

If we had those 21 points that were knocked off then we would have stayed up. Bizarre criticism considering the restrictions Rooney and Rosenior were managing under, especially when you also consider our home form has completely collapsed under Warne and good home form is the basis for any successful team.

Time to end this once and for all. We could have had 3 strikers on the pitch it wouldn’t have stopped our GK throwing the ball into our own net to go 2 down 😂

I've been super-critical of the deliberate tactic to NOT play through midfield - something PW stated in one of his interviews recently.
I sense last night's set up and approach, which saw us play more through midfield in the first 2 minutes than in the first 45 on Saturday, was something of a job-saving change of tack by PW.
Does he really believe in that style of play? I hope so because at this level we're very good at it, we'll win more games and it was good to watch.
I don't really get the negativity towards Hourihane - him and Bird were excellent last night and if they are allowed to play through midfield and these two stay fit we'll do well.
Exeter were as good as we allowed them to be. If we'd played with that deliberate play-through-midfield approach on Saturday I strongly suspect we'd have a forum full of posters saying how crap Shrewsbury were.
As for the Collins pile on....yes, he was poor last night and he should have laid off that ball to Barks but, if he had a fiver for every decent run that wasn't noticed or was ignored, he'd be sat on a yacht somewhere.
How many high, long balls against monster defenders did Waggy have to deal with last night......none? How many did Collins have to deal with on Saturday...plenty? I'm one of the few that sees value in Collins in the right team with the right set up but, if playing a shorter CF means we stop lump ball, I'd happily go with Waggy as the CF even though I think Collins is better in that role.
Saturday was rubbish. Last night was very enjoyable because of a deliberate decision to play proper football. Fingers crossed it continues.

Lots of people saying Exeter were dire - they were last night - but they had 20 odd shots on Saturday against Wigan so maybe we made them look dire?
A similar side to us in many ways, I thought. They wanted to play football, not very physical (although a couple of their subs were solid units, they were warming up down in our corner!)
We showed greater desire than them last night, with our players chasing down every loose ball.
Two big differences for me last night - Waggy's hold up play and a balanced midfield. NML worked so hard, Bird ran the show, and Hourihane mopped up.
Shout out to Fozzy, who played a key pass in both goals. Where he finds the energy from I don't know, but he's definitely taken over the Mr Derby County role from Curtis Davies with some style.
Appreciated a referee who largely let the game flow, helped by two sides who weren't more intent on fouling than playing the ball. It's a shame that the lino got the offside wrong because a 3-0 scoreline would have been a better reflection of the game and give more confidence going into Saturday, which I expect will be much more attritional than last night.

The last time Derby spent a fee was Jozwiak in 2020, with Portsmouth also making a paid transfer in the same window.. In the same period of time that we haven't been able to spend, Portsmouth have chosen not to. In thr 2 years from Feb 2020 to Feb 2022, we spend £1.8m on agents fees to their £350k

xG is a way to measure the probability that a shot will result in a goal. So in your example the run wouldn't really be relevant to the result but the type of attempt (ie header vs shot) and location of the attempt on the pitch (ie 25 yards from the center of the pitch or near the throw-in line) would be. Other things are taken into account but those are the big ones. It's meant to be used in conjunction with other stats to give you a better picture of the game.
Look at Exeter vs Wigan at the weekend as an example. Exeter had 30 shots, 4 on target and 72% possession. Wigan had 6 shots, 2 on target and 27% possession. The xG according to the Athletic was 1.28 for Exeter and 0.72 for Wigan. The regular stats show us Exeter absolutely battered Wigan and looking at them in isolation it would suggest it could have been a cricket score. When you factor in xG it shows that while they were having a lot of shots, a good chunk of them were low percentage efforts that had little chance of going in. A quick glimpse at the highlights and you see Wigan's first goal was the best chance of the match while Exeter's attempts were all from tight angles, from distance or with a mass of defenders in the way.
Yes, which is why it's not infalliable as a stat when it comes to getting a full picture of the game and why it needs to be used in conjunction with everything else. Statsbomb is used by Opta I believe and they take into account the position of goalkeepers and defenders which gives a more reliable figure. Other models will only use the type of chance, angle, distance, pattern of play and type of assist. It's not the ultimate stat that you simply must to pay attention to by any means but it does give a better picture of the game, how a team is performing, and is used in some capacity by club data anaylsts.

Perhaps take into account the style of play and the peak that a manager has reached in the past through either playing or managing I'd say. I don't know though because I think the decision to go with Warne wasn't a bad one because of Warne, I've always felt it was a bad one purely because we were replacing Rosenior with him. On the surface level it was a smart hire with a proven track record at this level but dometimes managers just don't work out for whatever reason. Paul Cook at Ipswich seemed a superb appointment a few years ago and he only lasted 9 months.
If we do move on from Warne soon then at the very least I hope it's someone with a more progressive style.

Here’s the pre match bbc podcast with Warne. My summary of it is….
It’s an interesting listen but doesn’t really tell us anything that hasn’t already been said about finances despite Dom’s tweet. Words to the effect of “didn’t really have a pot for fees, but could have used some of the budget on fees but not enough to improve the squad so used it for frees”
There were some good questions from Dom, did ask about the post match scenes on Sat; Warne said it’s not ideal but understands it. Said something about it being “best not to engage” which I take as being why he didn’t come over himself. Said emotions ran high in the dressing room after but isn’t being lingered on and players want to put it right tomorrow.
Dom said the comments about needing more aggression/physicality/finishing have been said for a while now but nothings changed, Warne said something about a bum cheek then how he gets things need to improve and when pressed later on as to how that happens he spoke more about work on the training ground etc.
Dom said something about 3 of the 11 on Sat being Warne signings, Warne asked clarity if Dom’s meaning was signings haven’t been good enough which Dom replied saying he meant it’s still not fully “Warne’s team”. Warne said it is his team, thinks we recruited well and is definitely good enough for top 6 but needs to improve and soon.
I might have forgotten bits or portrayed them subjectively so best to give it a listen yourselves if you feel so inclined.

im on a forum to give my view from watching every game ( either in person as st holder or on rtv I never miss a game ) I read others views who do the same , but I dont take any notice of xg and stats produced to say ,hey see I’m right , depends where you go looking for these stats as to what you get and if you need them to confirm what you see with your own eyes or to tell others how wrong they’re view is then there’s something wrong ,,, in my humble view

I think there was some logic in appointing Warne based on his experience of League One but I was in the Rosenior camp, for continuity if nothing else.
Warne will have had an idea of the players he wanted to get us promoted. He could justifiably say we didn’t get promotion last year because it wasn’t his team.
We brought players in but not always at the quality we would like but we did so with 3–5-2 in mind, a decision which failed. We are playing worse football than last year.
Warne needs to find answers quickly. Clowes is a rams fan and can’t be enjoying watching football at the moment.

Every chairman or owner will make bad appointments.
even Tony Bloom who can seem to do no wrong at the minute appointed Sami Hyypia as manager and went through a number of managers until he landed on the current run of decent managers.
