This is the main point isn't it? They are a private company and absolutely free to sack him if they want.
His specific actions aren't why he was sacked - you don't get sacked for getting a bit drunk and annoying a stranger in a park
But when that stranger is a well-recognised public figure and those actions become national news and your face is everywhere, the company has a solid case in employment law for you bringing their name into disrepute
    https://www.davidsonmorris.com/bringing-the-company-into-disrepute/
Estate Agents are the professional income-generating front of the business. They are the salesmen. I wouldn't want this guy fronting a business that I ran after doing something so idiotic that it became national news

Just giving my take on it. Louts picking on an easy target sickens me. Duncan Ferguson’s about the same age as Whitty, I’d like to see them being a bit silly with him.
I’m pleased an apology seems sufficient for you, that would have been a throughly unpleasant experience for Whitty, and not the first one he’s had to endure if my memory serves me correctly so I hope both the perpetrators have a lousy few months.
I’ve got a lad I’m proud as punch of. Polite, gentle, respectful, thinks of others before himself. He’s been on the wrong side of a bit of silliness and it ducked his head, he couldn’t understand why he was target of people he was no threat to.
These see you next tuesdays don’t give a toss about the consequences of their actions so don’t duckin’ give me all that silliness crap.

I find it strange how many people are just realising that wealth and status brings privilege. Like it's a new thing.

Got to love the media - an outrage story about how "TikTok is teaching UK teenagers to fake postive covid tests..."
and how "massively unhelpful" it is to be spreading this sort of information around
Erm - don't run a story on it then?

I see the guy who assaulted Chris Whitty for a selfie has lost his job as a result

cancel culture, or "fair enough, you should have thought about that before you started acting like a total dick and physically harassing a bloke in a park"?

Deffo cancel culture mate. The knobber's had to cancel his £100 a day bugle habit as he can apparently no longer afford it, though he does now get more time to hang out in the park. Every cloud...

I think lies is probably a bit strong.
Until this all happened, there was probably a perception or assumption that productivity would fall with people based at home. Not an unreasonable assumption IMO given that large scale home working had never really been trialled before. I know my company was always reluctant to officially allow occasional home working for fear of setting a precendent for all of the staff to request it also. Home working for odd days was always agreed on the QT and informally between worker and manager.
Plus, if there was no video (Zoom/Teams etc) available, as a few years ago, it would make it all the harder for home working to become a thing for many people.
Employers have now worked out that people can actually be trusted to not be micro-managed in the office and be at least as productive at home. In my experience anyway.

On a related note - my contract with work has now officially been changed to make me a permanent homeworker.
Prior to the pandemic, we used to have to beg to have a single day working from home, and make all sorts of justifications to bosses. If you actually wanted to become a permanent home worker...well you could pretty much forget it. The company had dozens of reasons as to why this was simply unacceptable. Were they all lies? Why yes, it seems that they were

Here’s a novel thought,, how about we go back to normal and start pumping these billions into the health service ,like training staff, employing staff, doing away with paid car parks where a nurse can spend half her wages just to be able to park up and go to work , improve wages to attract staff , improve and provide more beds and facilities, perhaps a service that’s not at breaking point EVERY winter
forget the above it’s just daft , there’s nothing in that for the haves and want mores??‍♂️

An interesting letter in the Times. It wasnt so long ago that if parents took kids out of school to go on holiday, even a day, that day would have profound effect on their education. You could be fined and last but not least imagine the effect it would have on teaching if several people did it would be catastrophic. People ended up in court.
What about now? entire years are being taken out, kids have missed months, i feel for the kids and young generation, they deserve better.

True. The devastating Spanish Flu virus from 1918 is still with us but has mutated over the years into one which now only causes the common cold.
Over time, viruses tend to mutate into versions which are more contageous but not as deadly (i.e. it's not a good long term strategy to kill your host)
