No I didn't say that. Rooney was meant to help with communicating what Cocu wanted, if the message wasn't clear then Rooney should have said something. As Rooney said himself, he was the link between the management and the players. So if the players were confused why hasn't it been said to Cocu, Twan and Chris that they didn't understand, why didn't the players say to Rooney we don't understand, what didn't Rooney say that they didn't understand?
I could see what we were trying to do under Cocu, I could see what the plan was, but he got dealt a poo hand, didn't have a proper pre season with the squad, he didn't have a proper transfer window and was hampered by injuries to key players. The players he bought were nearly all improvements on who they replaced. The youth players were managed correctly, and were improving consistently, when the football clicked last season it was brilliant to watch, at times it didn't and it was slow and ponderous and frustrating, but that annoyed Cocu as much as the fans.
Everyone sees what they want to see, you didn't like Cocu but you do Rooney, I liked Cocu but not Rooney. Rooney could change my mind but Cocu will never change yours now, unless he was crazy enough to come back (which won't happen).

it is no better with Rooney but you can see nothing wrong with someone who's record is worse....the younger players progressed under Cocu Bird for example was a much better player and like some others seem to have regressed under Rooney

And here is where the then player/coach should have spoken to Cocu to help with things, the man who said he would be the link between the players and the management. Obviously he failed with that, remind me again what happened to him after Cocu left?

Rooney is such a novice that he brought in was it five loan players? one more than can actually be in the first team squad. Genius.

I remember you putting all the blame on Cocu and saying we have a top ten squad that he couldn't get a tune out of. I disagreed and said it was a terrible squad - to which your reply was 'we will see when Cocu's gone'.
You'd still rather have Rooney and Rosenior chopping and changing the team over Cocu wouldn't you!

You said the squad was good enough and should be in the top ten. It was all Cocu’s fault.

Hopefully hanging around waiting for us to have decent owners with a bit of money to spend.
The bloke was never as bad as Derby made him look. Took over what looked like a good club with a plan. Must have been shocked to find what he did. Then just as he started to make a bit of money off players to buy ones he wanted we sacked him for a complete novice.
So in a nutshell with gave a young coach with loads of contacts in the game a poor squad, a squad which was equally as bad at drinking as they were playing football, no money to spend, then got rid when he was on the cusp of turning it around. And replaced him with two complete clowns who need money to spend to give them half a chance. Brilliant.
It will always wind me up.
I'd have him back in a heartbeat. Rooney's presence undermined him so its unfair to say he was a bad coach.
If I were him I'd commit crimes in that Derby County training wear.

He would've got Bielik back, we'd have done well like we did under Rooney for the 12 odd games he played. What didn't help is Cocu having to play an unfit, overweight and uninterested Rooney every game.

This saga now just comes across as a vindictive face-saving exercise by the EFL and payback for all Mel's sniping at them over the years. We've made it easy for them by streching and bending the rules - giving them a convenient stick to beat us with.
You're not telling me that we accidentally used an accounting practice that no other club uses and then failed to highlight it properly in our submitted paperwork.
Mel & everyone else at DCFC thought they were cleverer than the EFL, which probably is the case but if you continually tread on the beast's tail, you're gonna get bitten at some point.

Good point. I will refer back to U15s upwards then.
I see little point in having U10s-U14s teams. So much changes between the age of 9 and 15. I think you've every chance of picking better developed players off the park when they're physically developed.
That's how it used to be.

Yes there is plenty of money in the Premier league but that is the whole point of getting out of this division. Many teams come down and fall into mediocrity.
We wasted our parachute payments and since 13/14 have failed to capitalise on anything. The door has been wide open several times but we failed to take the opportunities.
Now we are further from promotion than we have even been since 20010/11 and that isn't because of the fortunes spilling down from the Prem it is through gross mismanaged by the board causing chaos both on and off the field.

While I agree football is broken and salary caps should be applied, the Premier League isn't going to change anytime soon. If it did it wouldn't attract the players it currently does and another country will take advantage.
And just because we're rubbish doesn't mean we can start moaning about relegated teams having an advantage. In 2007 we won the 'biggest prize' in English football, spent next to nothing and came back down with parachute payments. We also appointed Paul Jewell.
Ten years on - In 2017 Norwich appointed a manager, we could have surely attracted ourselves, who's taken them up twice in that time, making the club considerably better off than before he took over. In the same year we re-appointed a manager who failed to get us promoted, after we'd sacked a manager who spent millions on what turned out to be poor value for money.
So no point moaning about things out of our control. Just wish for an owner who makes some sensible and calculated decisions, and a manager who builds a team on a sensible budget.

I don't like how it kills the emotion in the game. I think it should be used for goal line decisions and red card decisions, but I would prefer to not use it on offsides and handballs.

Using 'The Derby Way' as an excuse for sacking a manager was as embarrassing as him being on Talksport almost goading everyone else.
He's tried to be clever and its backfired. But hey we have a really good academy that produces loads of talent (we inevitably sell for £10+ a bag of sweets).

It reads like Rooney swept in on a white stallion and has rescued us. Completely ignoring that he and his coaching staff were all part of a team being bottom! Rooney was supposedly our star, but he was overweight, out of shape and barely interested in fighting at the start of this season. He has to take some responsibility for our league position that he inherited. This mess is on the players too and Rooney was part of that. If anything he helped make his own job harder.

I think Newcastle deserve a Mac2 before we give him another go.
l have also had the horrible thought that later in the season he will be laughing on the touchline, giving Chris Hughton a playful punch, as Grabban wheels away to make it 3 - 0.
