it’s all on you Warne. Just all too cosy and comfortable at the moment. Warne’s ambition is purely personal and financial. He wants dog walks, pub lunches, an easy life, laugh with the lads during training, no acrimony, jog with his son, more bobble hats, ego stroking etc. clowes was daft enough to give him a 4 year contract. Great business man that.

You have a very short memory me owd. Slagging Mr Clowes off after he saved the club from extinction ? Poor form, very, very poor form.

    You a multi-millionaire are ya…? Thought not.

  2. Think a few of you are getting 'big club' mixed-up with 'big budget'.

Because we have a relatively big fan base, we have more money than those with a smaller fan base. With that extra money we should be doing better than those with less given that, all things being equal, you can sign better players and coaching staff.

    Hence the expectation.

So it's not really about entitlement - it's about expectation given the fact (if, indeed, it is a fact) that we have bigger budgets.

But if anyone knows that big money does not equal success, it should be us! It was our DNA whilst Mr Morris had control of the cheque book.

  3. Whether you think it was aimed at the fans or not, it was a silly thing to say on the basis that it could be perceived as such. There was no need to say it and a smarter person wouldn't have been lulled-in.

Also, Exeter are 18th in the table in League One so all this talk of them being a decent side is playing fast and loose with the term 'decent'.

With that comment and the NML gesture, clearly they feel the pressure and they feel it's unjust. If that energy is managed properly to create a siege mentality in the dressing room then that could be a good thing. If it's turned into 'oh woe is me' then that's the beginning of the end.

NML shouldn't have done it - it was arrogant and show's a disconnect between the players and the fans (who pay their wages, will be there long after he's gone, etc, etc). I get the whole emotional aspect but it was a silly thing to do for the same reason as above. I'd say he's gone down in my estimation but he's a footballer so we need to make allowances...

  4. Not sure I buy this 'the club is too big for PW' thing. We're not Man U with all the media coverage, superstars egos, etc. We're just a normal L1 club with a bigger following and better facilities so don't see how that comes into it.

FWIW I suspect DC will stick with him unless it gets really bad in terms of results or if he loses the dressing room. I imagine PW can be quite volatile when pushed (he strikes me as a seat-of-the-pants guy in some regard) so if the pressure gets to him, can see him losing it which could go either way.

In the number 10 tole. The one that Warne keeps giving to Waghorn, who isn't a number 10. But he needs a few games in that position continuously, rather than  a few bits here or there, but virtually never at number 10. So when he does get there, he struggles to get up to speed.

Agreed - he's one of those that needs games. It feels to me that every time he's been played regularly, he's done well then had injuries which then broke the cycle. Difficult to accommodate that especially bearing in mind he doesn't really fit into PW's style of football.

  6. I'm sure this isn't universally the case but if you don't go to the games (thus far this season, this includes me) then perhaps you are less frustrated because you see the results and highlights - both of which are (almost) acceptable.

Whereas when I went to the games last season, I was as angry as many of you lot because the football just seemed so... brainless. For me, the standout managers who had good, solid, sensible games plans (formations, tactics, plays) were TBE, Schteve and Burley all of whom had reasonable success. WeeBilly also had a very clear game plan and success but I really, really don't like the man so I'll leave him out of that list (I'm sure most of you will agree). It pains me to watch 90+ mins of football which seems largely driven by hope/statistical analysis rather than proper patterns of play.

When PW talks, sometimes it feels like he knows what he wants - my fear is that even if that's where we ultimately get, it's probably not going to be what we want to watch.

Having said that, Our Saviour Lord DC isn't daft. He sees what we see (I suspect) but applying business logic to it, even if he doesn't like PW's methods, if we get the results then he'll persevere. DC doesn't strike me as the 'shoot from the hip' type. He's a sensible, steady guy who's used to long term projects so I'd say PW is here for a good while yet. However, I suspect what will make him change Manager is poor results and reduced attendances - hard data points basically.

Nothing technical, it's a cracking little Leicestershire village. I'm often there in the Potters, which is where a lot of the Derby fans seem to drink. Plenty of Leicester fans and a fair amount of forrest shirts, too.

Anyway, postcodes and area codes mean nothing! Grantham is well into Lincs. but tis NG31. I'm in Sawley which has a big "Welcome to Derbyshire" sign but an NG postcode. Risley (just up the road from here) has a DE post code but an 0115 area code 😆

If you ask the locals, they'll say they're Derby 🙂

My Sunderland mate says he's a tidy player, if a bit slow, but can score a thunderbolt. And apparently he's usually a mardy b****** at the best of times.

That makes sense. Never seen a less engaged person in the media eye for many a year. Either utterly thick or totally disinterested was my take - 70/30 I'd say. Hope he's ok on the pitch 'cos off it... dull, dim and privileged. FFS he's being paid to do a job most of us would love - don't care about his injury problems or that he's been loaned out - he's got an amazing job and the boy has no idea how lucky he is. His attitude in that interview stinks and he couldn't look less of a PW player. Smacks of 'heard this lads good, get him in cos you've ran out of options' rather than 'we need the right characters in the dressing room'.

Welcome to Derby? If the lad showed a smattering of gratitude I'd be behind him but nah, doesn't want to be here. The interview was obvs cut short, was 100% hard work and it won't work out unless he's absolute quality (which he isn't).

    Why do you think that?

Because Hourihane is absolutely not upper Champ material IMO. He's prob our most disappointing signing overall. Not saying he's rubbish but I don't see any Prem/upper Champ pedigree at all. Feels like a bang average lower Champ player to me - fine for where we're at but don't see his 'pedigree' on the pitch at all. Prob a good trainer / 'parched' as Peter Crouch would say.

A measure, yes else why have them? Where did I suggest, in the jokey reply to Curtains post, that it was the only thing, me owd? You don't for one minute think that DC does listen to the fans?

I'm not saying they don't have value, just that other people can handle 'em. Doesn't mean he thinks they're unimportant - just that he's perhaps not the best guy for them. And, he's not one for the limelight is he. I don't blame him - I'd stay out of the road too. He's pretty much said that he's just a temporary steward so why bother putting yourself in the spotlight?

Yes, it's my business and I'd want to make sure it was heading in the right direction.

And the forum is the measure of the right direction? One part of a bigger picture I think me ode. It feel like 'fan management' is a thing in their strategy but DC is the Chairman and that's for others to sort out.

Who is our luxury player then?

I agree with the balance, but last match 119 passes with 56% accuracy. Poor both halves. Not much balance there.

Wasn't really saying we have one - was just doing my usual 'Kinky was over-rated' thing! 😉

However, if pressed I'd say I'm most disappointed by Hourihane. Doesn't demonstrate much ex-Premiership player quality for me. I just don't see anything there that stands out - his set-pieces are pretty good but other than that... Not slating him as such, just surprised at his career given what we see.

I'd also add - I love a flair player. Loved Wanchope, Ace, Baiano and Eranio who, for us, could be regarded as a flair player. And a playmaker. And a tactical genius. Anyway, I must stop being that old bloke that goes on about players from the past where half the forum sigh at oldies going on about the past.

You okay Paul? We get the message, but you know that football isn't always about running hard, let the ball do the work. Yours, G. Kinkladze.

Kinkaldze. The definition of 'luxury player'. You might get away with one Kinky in a squad but you need legs around him. Always has been the case, always will be.

Asanovic, who was also a luxury player (but far better than Kinky IMO), was at his best when DPFG and Carsley were running around after him. It's about balance. Which is something a few posters here don't have...

It's too early to be slating PW. We're 6 games in with a tight budget, lots of new players and they need a bedding-in period. However, if we don't see some improvements in the way we're playing by Xmas then perhaps we can start to be a bit more vocal about it.

    Balance ya see...

  14. I thought PW's attitude in the post-Fleetwood game was interesting. He was really buzzing and I wonder if it's not just about the win; I wonder if we've finally got some players coming in. He didn't seem overly phased by 3 key players all being out for, in reality, 3 months. Perhaps DC has made more funds available and/or Bird is now staying because of the injury? Dunno, but he seemed overly (if you get me) happy. Of course a win is a win but dunno, just felt that he was chuffed more than a scrappy win against a weak'ish opposition would have made me.

It’s the set up. Nelson’s ball out last night was intended for a midfielder who was 30 yards away.

The setup is wrong but Nelson's decision and execution were the problem in that instance. Watch it on the highlights - he tries to pass to midfield but there's an Oxford player stood about 2 yards to one side so an easy interception. Awful decision making but was one of many. Ball was moved out too slow.
