Remember what PW has said about the way he recruits players. Not only do they need to be a decent player, they also need to be a decent person, which he and the rest of the team, can work with.
A couple of names linked with us have good records, but according to someone I know in scouting, are less than desirable as a person and the club will steer well clear of these type of players, irrespective of how talented they are.

This time last year we felt that it was crucial to keep Curtis Davies, after his performances the previous season. We now feel that this season was a bit of a disappointment and that he didn't contribute as much as we, and probably, he felt that he should have.
Any player getting to the age of these players, are potentially one season from their performances falling off the end of a cliff. Having said that, I hope Didzy finishes on a high at Notts in the lower division.

Completely understand the feeling of disappointment with McGoldrick leaving.
Can't completely understand the frustration with the club.
In terms of that departure, I'm not sure what we could have expected the club to do in that situation?
The player has dropped a level, even took a pay cut to join Notts County, whilst our rivals may see that as some kind of embarrassment, they are clearly ignoring minor details such as seeing out his career at the club he supports.
Absolutely no embarrassment or shame in that transfer, in fact it's refreshing to see whilst the superstars of the game are chasing that Saudi money.
You can't help but wish him all the best and hope he has that fairy tale end to his career.
In terms of our own transfer activity or lack of so far, even if we were to sign 10 players today, our first pre season friendly is 5 weeks away.
We're not on the eve of the first game with no pre season training with the new players.
If you want to fully believe every single transfer rumour, that's more on you than the club itself, if you have been a football fan for any length of time during this social media era, you should know how it all works.
I personally wasn't expecting much if anything until the end of the month at the earliest. The transfer window itself doesn't even officially open until Wednesday.
I thought the forum would be also be pretty quiet without the drama.
Anyhow, McGoldrick, you won't be reading this but once again, thanks for everything, wish you all the best at Notts County, hope it works out for you and you can help lift them into League 1.

I do wonder whether Rooney had any influence on some of last summer's signings, I would imagine that a number of the signings were lined up before he decided to leave the club.

We buy or loan players to get us out of this league and I would think that nearly all of us would be hoping to be either in or at the very least challenging for the Premier, in 4 years time.
On that basis, it will be extremely difficult to identify and buy players capable of playing in the Premier, with our existing financial difficulties.
So, I think that promotion needs to be achieved even if it's through short term planning, using loans, then once promotion is gained and with the extra finances and combined with the return to normal business practices, we can then plan with a more long term approach.

I genuinely don't understand why I've just seen "League two is a bigger pull than Warne"
It's not league two. It's Notts County. It's his club. He wants to retire there. Fair play. Could have stayed here for more money. He's literally just said himself that no other club he would have gone for.
Internally they would have known about this for ages. I would imagine that Mcgoldrick has said "Look if Notts go up there's a chance I could go back there and I'd want to"
I wish him nothing but the best. Was unbelievable for us last season and without him we'd have been nowhere.
But that was the season of his life and we cannot be relying on him to do that again. We need 3-4 strikers chipping in with 8-15 goals each. We need wide players chipping in with 5-10.
It's not just about replacing Mcgoldricks goals with an individual it needs to be spread.
Other than Hourihane and NML. Goals from other areas of the team were pitiful.
But fans using this as a stick to beat Warne or the club with are a joke.

I’m not sure why you’re even having this conversation, of course Derby are a big club and even massive at this level. As has been said, there are lots of reasons players sign for certain clubs but I’d say ambition is one of them and playing at the highest level possible is too. Players can achieve both with Derby but if players are short sighted enough to only consider money the main criteria, unless it’s so much it would be crazy to turn down, you’d join a Derby before you’d join anyone else in this league and half the one above and that’s from a Bolton fan!! 😉

That's a very selective comparison of a championship club, I could easily say take a quick look at the training facilities of Premier league Luton Town.
I think that you'll find that our training facilities are on a level with a number of Premier clubs and better than most of the championship. Locally to me Championship Birmingham and Coventry are sunday league in comparison  to lg1 Derby. A quick search on google maps reveal that Derby's training facilities have far more buildings and outside pitches in comparison to every championship team I looked at. Obviously, this doesn't show the level of equipment inside, but the fact that we have had cat 1 status for a number of years, without being a Premier club, speaks for itself.

I wouldn't necessarily write off Notts County, I would imagine that sentiments would mean that he would accept a lower figure off them, compared with a team like Derby with whom he has little or no emotional connection. In his position, I would expect Derby to make me the highest paid player in the club, after last season's contribution. In Derby's position, I would be hoping to attract someone younger, with a view to the future, with those kind of demands. It's easy to see why an agreement is unlikely.

I think that the loan route has been used quite successfully over the years in different divisions, in order to get promoted. You can get better quality players in without such a high outlay and long term risk associated with spending big money on 'quality' players, who only come down a division for high wages and long contracts.
This is why we're where we are, we paid big money and offered high wages to players, we thought would not only get us promoted but would be good enough for the premier. It was a very costly mistake, while those around us went down the loan route with less long term expensive commitment.

Well im fine if he goes and fine if he stays .
But he does now have a walking stick .........we are derby county !! albeit in div 3  ( old style ) If we cant sign now 2 reasonable ( not collins type ) strikers good enough for this league we are in a sorry state now restrictions are somewhat lifted .
The meltdown that goes on should we sell one of our bang average academy products or a 35 year old about to retire striker is beyond ridiculous , if i were didzy and didnt need the money i would finish my career where i started aa nice ending that and we should be thankful for last season .
WE ARE DERBY in a piss poor league , we ought now with the money issues becoming better to walk this league this is now Warnes big big test .

All didzy will be is a back up striker a nice one at that but would you settle for that if you could play if fit at your first club ? .

So did I and 'hoof ball' was not the phrase that came to mind when watching Derby play. I'm not saying that we played amazing every game because we didn't. But at times we played some great stuff particularly in that middle part of the season I thought we looked really good. This idea that under Warne we're going to pumping it long every game is just utter nonsense and to be honest a lot of it is football snobbery.
