They were record British transfer fees paid out at the time. 2.2 million for Wright a record for a defender and 2.9 million for Saunders. The issue was the money went to Maxwell.
Christie revealed in his book Boro bid 7 million for him alone. We wanted 9. 6 months later we got 3 for him AND Riggott. Sturridge was similar, could have got around 6-7 million, a few years later we got about 300k. Will Hughes, could have sold for about double what we got. We are terrible at getting decent fees, we hold on for too long. 

Saunders and Wright sold for a pittance to liverpool, yes we were relegated but... 
Then a few years later, Charles and Johnson sold to villa
Then same happens with Christie and riggott to boro 
Not to mention rasiak and huddlestone to spurs 

I'm not sure how much it's a "good enough" thing and how much was the owners wanting proven managment team they can trust to perform based on the likely budget, I think Warne was more based on being a lower risk than Rosenoir. That's not based on anything other than me thinking it, because LR wasn't doing anywhere near bad enough to be sacked at the time.
I really wish LR the best, it seemed very ruthless to cut him when we did.

Play him in a front three and we'll get the best out of him, stick him as RWB and you'll get less

Looked better with a back 4 but this was an awful game to watch, Warne needs to look at what he's working with and stray from the wing back formation until he can get the players in he wants, otherwise these performances will continue

Decent game to watch, only downside was NML looks wasted at RWB, not as attacking as I'd like to see him but the team looked better attacking if that makes sense ?

So the umpteen signings in the summer who LR signed to mould his own team now have to learn a new style with a manager the majority potentially wouldn't of signed for, style of play etc
It hasn't been great to watch but surely the new team was still adapting to LR style and 9 league games isn't long enough.
