His team Olimpija Ljubljana won the league last season and he is the current club captain. Will be 26 in April, made his debut for his national side when he was 23. Slovenia have qualified for Euro 2024 having only lost 2 qualfiying matches. Some one to look out for on the TV during the summer.

I think Timi Max Elsnick could also be added to that list. Appreciate he's now plying his trade in Slovenia, but his team are second in their top league and he's made 11 appearances for the national team. Think he'd have done a job for us, especially given what happened after he left.

I remember talking to a Blades fan I work with when we signed McGoldrick and he said he was rubbish in front of goal and he didn’t turn out too badly at League One level…
I can see Gayle scoring goals at this level, even after his slump in recent seasons. My bigger concern is whether we’ll play in a way that will give him that opportunity, but time will tell.

Hello All. 
I'm raising some funds for a new headstone for Archie Goodall at Nottingham Road Cemetery, Derby. 
Archie made 424 appearances and scored 52 goals (Football League & FA Cup) for Derby County playing in the centre half and forward positions. He also served as club captain and established a club record for consecutive league appearances. Archie was employed regularly as a centre half and made great use of the shoulder charge. His stamina and shear physical presence also made him very effective in this position.

I've got a really "out there" idea.
How about we use the matchday thread to discuss the match and take the other tedious debates over to other threads? 
Don't suppose it will ever catch on! 

I keep seeing comments about us needing a proper defensive midfielder. Surely with 3 at the back that shouldn’t be a necessity? I could understand someone who’s a bit of a ratter like Shinnie, but not sure about needing an out and out defensive midfielder. 

Or, is this just an indictment that we don’t have the right CBs for playing 3 at the back?
First game of the season tonight, so I’m looking forward to being able to make some more informed opinions 😊 COYR 🐏 

He should be nearly employed by the club, but just not.

If that carries on, a Tuesday night in November we will be lucky to get 15k through the turnstiles. 

We clearly cannot play three at the back with the players we have. He had ample opportunities to change tonight but persisted trying to shoehorn substitutions into a 3-5-2, that looked like 3-6-1 for most of the game, if he cannot see it doesn’t work, at least for now , then he is on borrowed time.

Perhaps, but teams seem to stroll right through the middle of our midfield. We very rarely dominate that area of the pitch and, when they do get bypassed, our midfielders have no pace to get back.
Combine that with the back 5 looking shaky at present and you have a recipe for disaster.

For me it boils down to whether Bird is willing to sign a new contract with us. If he is, he’s invested in our project and likes the idea of playing nearly every match of the next season, then great. If he’d rather go to Hull for a pay rise and I imagine play less football, then fine, let’s cash in and bring in someone who wants to commit to us.
picking up a new decent midfielder to replace Bird and hopefully add more balance to our midfield doesn’t worry me as much as finding someone to inject some pace at the top end of the pitch.
