If the points are to be applied retrospectively why is it to last seasons and not to a season it actually relates to?
Also, why should Wycombe get any benefit from a retrospective points deduction, they were in League 2 for 2/3 of the seasons we need to revise our accounts for. Has nothing to do with them or last season. They already got promoted by default.

This has to be the post of the day....I mean do you really think the EFL are anything but a total disgrace...we are not blameless I've said as much but the fact its only a 100k fine says a lot and then to put out two sets of fixtures is nothing short of laughable!!
I love football but the game is going to the dogs and the EFL do not help one bit...we have all ben through so much over the last 18 months or so and every football club has suffered so do dig into figures regarding amortisation is a joke when clubs are struggling ...there is absolutely no point anyone with any big money behind them getting involved with EFL clubs
The EFL is supposed to be fair and look after clubs with FFP rules etc but yet dig and dig and appeal and bring clubs down rather than helping in any way and it is a disgrace....many clubs bend the rules but seem to be left alone but this is looking like a witch hunt to me with morons like Gibson sticking his oar in
Why look over the accounts from 4 years ago?? why ?? wasn't they checked at the time then ?
The damage that this uncertainty is doing could be felt for years and yet ALL clubs worldwide have had a disastrous period of uncertainty and yet the EFL want to keep going until they get what they want...we are not blameless no but the EFL are a bunch of ******* and thats a fact

Yes i do. Is Gibson selling Boro’s debts to his haulage company shady ? Are Qpr , Bournemouth , Villa , Leicester etc not shady getting promotion by breaking FFP Forests owner allegedly the most shady of all. Shady values ? All transfer values are finger in the air . Get over yourself if you think all other clubs are sweetness and light

Because they’ve been fed the crap the daily fail has been putting out on behalf of the EFL, convinced themselves we’re cheats and through their partisan blinkers want to see us burn. Stuff coming out now (even Kieran Maguire) saying we’re potentially within spending limits with the change in amortisation policy - therefore no unfair advantage at all.

duck the EFL and the Bamfords they represent!

I really don’t see why the EFL are a disgrace, we “bent” the rules, I think we would all agree we broke a number of rules. Therefore we should take whatever punishment they want to dish out. I think only one party is a disgrace and it’s Derby County Football Club.

The statement from the club is not combative and is certainly not lunacy, if anything it is factual and restrained.

I thought that was a good pre-emptive strike. No use letting the EFL dock points and then try and appeal them, we need to stop the EFLs idea that docking points retrospectively is ever an option (for any team tbh).

I kinda hope we go bust if I'm honest. Will serve Mel and the efl right. It's the people who rely on the jobs the club creates that would come out badly from it

I don't think I've seen our fanbase so panicky since we last had to defend a corner......
May be it's right to be panicky.  I'm always struck, though, by how many people immediately leap to us being doomed to all sorts of terrible things - administration, points deductions in more than one season, etc etc. I do wonder what people were expecting.  We were referred to the DC solely for a sanction to be applied.  Given the amortisation issue, we were bound to have to refile the accounts.  However, from what little I understand of these things, it seems far from certain that we're going to breach the FFP limits, and even if we did a retrospective sanction is probably unworkable. As for the fine, I bet Mel & co can't believe their luck - it's about as derisory (to the EFL) as we could have hoped for.
Speaking of Mel, I see many feel that he is largely responsible for where we are.  Perhaps he is. He's made many mistakes over the last seven years.  Funnily enough, I've made some mistakes too during that time, and its just possible that one or two other posters have as well.  I didn't, though, make the cardinal error of spending £200m of my own money on something that, had it come off, would have lifted an entire city and thrilled many thousands of others, while also bringing untold economic benefits to Derbyshire. I've seen somewhere (possibly on here) someone saying that we're in a worse place now than under the Three Amigos.  Given that one regime led to criminal convictions for stealing from us while the other has spent £200m  of their own money(however unwisely), that seemed an interesting moral comparison to me.  As for our inevitable relegation, compare George Burley season 1 with George Burley season 2 - very little is a given in football.
I note that some are saying the takeover must be off.  I can't help feeling though that the possibility of getting sanctions from a DC that was set up solely to apply those sanctions may have occurred to those involved in the negotiations.  What would our prospective bidders have assumed that those sanctions might be - could it be that they would have to have their hair done by Mel's barber?  Or would they be forced to listen to repeat playings of Queen's greatest hits?  Or could they possibly have guessed that it might have something to do with our future league status, in which case we couldn't have criticised them for walking away, although there is no actual evidence that they have done so.
So should we panic now?  Or should we spend quality time with our other halves, speak to the kids, load the dishwasher, read a book, binge on a box set, order a take away, debate Anton's appointment as a Strictly judge, dig the garden, play golf, watch Derbyshire CCC (OK maybe not that one...).  We can't influence what's going to happen no matter what anguish we go through, and so I'm going to save my panicking for when an attack of ours breaks down, and Huddersfield's star player (or possibly Accrington Stanley's) spots that Marshy is nearer their goal line than ours...............

The EFL can argue all they want that they didn’t understand the application of the method, but they certainly understood the implications of it. That email (to himself) is a plain as day, they knew that there was the potential for being a large charge in the last year of the contract.

Let’s see this for what it is, a vendetta against Mel Morris and Derby County from the EFL for having the audacity to stand up to them over the TV money and threaten a Premier League 2 which other club owners backed him on, and a vendetta from Steve Gibson and Boro because we beat them to the playoffs (despite Boro having a BIGGER BUDGET THAN WE DID that season!!)
Rather than try to sort out the issues on wages and make the championship a level playing field they just want to wage war against Derby and won’t back down to save face and appease other championship owners who are self interested to the point of being vindicative. We have been screwed over more than any other club because of the ongoing transfer embargoes due to this process and vindictive statements like saying the fixtures are interchangeable. It is beyond shameful.
There is no way we get a points deduction for this breach as there is no precedent.
There is no way a points deduction would be applied retrospectively as again - no precedent
Any deduction will result from new accounts submissions which will be a new charge and hopefully much more simple to determine. That could only apply next season. And it is by no means clear we would breach the limits anyway.
Time to back the club, Mel Morris and Stephen Pearce on this issue

Unfortunately we do seem to have a very peculiar subset of supporters who will always look to do their own club down and simply join in with others slagging it off.
Ooooh sub-optimal supporters, they can be the new half fans!
I'm sure we're nothing special in that regard though, every club must have them.
We can definitely be critical of how Mel Morris has handled the club, but not to the point of excluding basic decency and certainly not to the point of actually being supportive of people taking action against him and the club.

This and the timing of their statement shows how truly vindictive the EFL are. Shocking.

So we don't even have to submit the accounts until 11 days after the season has started, so why the EFL even bothered to put two fixture lists out is beyond me.
    The EFL are completely mental.

For an organisation to approve and sign off on accounts for 3 seasons, to then turn round and say hold up, you know how we approved those accounts? Yeah, we don’t anymore and decided we want to retrospectively punish you by relegating you.
Whatever your thoughts on Mel, the signings, appointments the colour of his shoes, this is just insanity, it honestly is and it’s vindictive insanity even taking club bias out.
This case should worry every single owner, manager and fan of clubs under the shambolic EFL pyramid.
Including that Championship club where the owner owns another club over in Greece, transferring players between each other to circumvent FFP restrictions without even trying to hide it and the EFL are blind to it.
Our real crime here let’s be honest is being better than Middlesbrough one season, that’s the big issue here.
We’ve upset this little bloke up North sat in his half empty stadium so much he’s had his lawyers out to shake the EFL suits up.
Then you have that Karen Maguire over on Twitter sticking his great big spoon into the mix as it gives him a hard on and appearances on rogue radio stations and podcasts.
    Absolute joke.
Nobody from the EFL will read this, but if somehow you do, fine yourself, fine yourself for being an inept organisation and if you’re serious about looking out for the best interests of the member clubs, sell up, hand the leagues over as you have shown time after time you are incapable of running them, you’re an embarrassment.

Exactly. If the EFL had questioned the method in the first season we did it, we would have resubmitted then. At worst it would have been a one season blip and an earlier change to slightly more prudent trading than happened.
I am incredulous that the EFL has not been questioned and highlighted about this by the so-called independent journalists who report on these matters. They just seem content to jump on the EFL anti-Derby bandwagon. Puppets!

    Still don’t get how:
    - EFL rules don’t state the method of amortisation to be used
    - we submit accounts using a legitimate accounting method which the EFL accept
    - we submit 2 more years accounts using the same method which the EFL accept
    - Keiran ‘finance expert in his own head’ Maguire tells the EFL that we’re doing something different to all the other teams
-EFL charge us over multiple issues and lose
    - EFL appeal a small part of the charges and win but now threaten to relegate us if they decide to appeal again.
Surely their appeal was only against the fact that we’d not been clear enough in telling the EFL accountants that we’d used a different accounting technique. The fact that the latest appeal has decided we should have been fined for the issue rather than given a good telling off doesn’t legitimately leave scope for a points deduction for last season - so relegation shouldn’t even be a consideration at this stage.
This is a vindictive statement meant to cause as much trouble as possible - at a time when all clubs are in dire straits due to COVID. Appeals from either side simply drag out this farcical process and cause more damage - the EFL need to remember they have a duty to protect all clubs and not continue to attack us just because their chief exec is best mates with a nasty little man in a Middlesbrough - particularly when they have history of letting clubs with far larger FFP breaches off the hook……

I just don't know what the EFL are hoping to achieve. Is FFP still about protecting clubs from going bust or is it just a set of rules with no purpose?
Dragging this out is stopping us getting the takeover that we desperately need. This could make us go bust, so where does this even relate to "sustainability" anymore?

It's bad for both Wycombe and Derby. The EFL are a disgusting organisation who have shown time and time again that they do not protect clubs.
Haven't we had enough punishment as it is, our name has been dragged through the mud. This case has been going on for years. It's appalling. And now they want more sanctions because we supposedly gained an unfair advantage with our accounting methods even though we haven't.
2 full seasons now of absolute chaos and it's still going on. What an absolute shambles.

This clarifies the situation a bit:
Possibility of relegation last season is to do with the EFL appealing the original charge to have it changed
Resubmission of accounts would require new charges if there are any breaches, so wouldn't result in relegation last season
So it's not the case that any breaches in the resubmitted accounts will result in an immediate relegation.

You know, the more I think about it, the more bizarre it seems that the EFL are making and very openly broadcasting the fact they're making a separate fixture list based on a points deduction that hasn't happened. They've just invented a potential punishment that's different to the punishment that has actually been handed out and are going to publish a set of fixtures based on this imagined punishment, even though there's no suggestion that it's likely that it will actually be given.
    What a weird organisation.
