Ram a lamb a ding dong reacted to IslandExile in At least we still have a club.......yeah but...
Last year was a nightmare. The almost unthinkable nearly happened - we were so close to losing our beloved football club, founder members of the football league, champions under Clough and Mackay, FA cup winners after the war and European Cup semi-finalists.
David Clowes, a genuine fan with the means to do so, rescued the club at the last minute. He himself says it "was close".
Thanks to him, we have a club, our club.
We must learn the lessons of the past. We must not get into the same precarious mess ever again.
But....we can move on. We must move on. We should now look forward. We do not have to merely be content that the club is still in existence.
It's ok to demand more from the manager, the teams on the pitch (not just the first team but especially them).
We should demand exciting, entertaining football that gets results. It does not mean that we won't forever be grateful to David Clowes for saving the club.
It means we want Derby County to once again be a beacon for good football. Attacking football. Positive football. Entertaining football.
That means passing football, intricate moves, running with the ball, creating chances. It doesn't mean sitting back and hoping to score from a corner or a free kick.
I like Paul Warne, the man. But I don't like his tactics. I don't like his desire to play 3-5-2 with the players he has available, I don't like his use of players out of position or not giving the academy players a chance. I don't like the emphasis on set pieces rather than attacking play.
Yes, at least we still have a club.
But we are Derby County. The football should be, must be, ought to be better 🐏

I was all for his appointment it seemed a good choice, Under Rosenior the football wasn't to my liking, DC employed a man that looked a good fit, 3 promotions from League 1, He and his coaches had the experience, Now he's been given a budget and this is his team, Failure this season and the door will be open, If results don't improve the fans will turn...that's football for you, It won't matter that DC saved DCFC It's the now that counts not the past.
It's not the end of the world if DCFC aren't promoted this season, But it will be for PW...imo

Disagree about the 2 weeks. If I was Warne I would welcome it to relieve the pressure. After a torrid time of injuries and transfer window the coaching staff have two weeks to work with most of the players, regroup, take a deep breath and restart.  Then we will see!

Let’s see where we are after 20-25 games.
It has been an unconvincing start to the season, but there’s no need to hit the panic button. Warne has two weeks now to take stock and hopefully pinpoint and work on issues. We are four points off the top, not fourteen. We have forty games to course correct, not four. Let’s not overreact.
The concerns over the performances and the style of play are valid, but equally the side isn’t settled in any way and evidently that makes performing fluently more difficult.
Injuries, suspensions, players new and old struggling to blend, some players desperately struggling for fitness and form, and of course game changing lapses by officials and experienced players - there are a multitude of issues that are hitting us hard all at once.
What can we truly read into six league games? One week, everything goes for us, the next nothing does. We need a bigger sample size and we need a more settled XI and more coherent and consistent set up before we can judge. Could this side look different with a back four and Fornah, Embleton and Thompson in midfield, for instance?
People want to press the eject button before a squad with 11 new signings and a manager 12 months into the job and still working things out genuinely finds true synergy.
Comparing us to Bolton, where Evatt has been in charge for three years and has been able to tweak and improve the team year on year, is pointless. The circumstances are completely different.
We need to give it time.

Keogh was quality, he had the occasional c*** up but overall was a very solid championship defender. Was brilliant at driving the ball out of defence, just not very good at turning down lifts from people driving under the influence.
    See what I did

Tbf to him I did see him shouting and commanding the back line really well which can be seen from this photo from today..

So frustrating reading this thread. Too many waiting to say warne out at the first chance of things going against us.
We just lost to the best team in the league 2-1 with 10 men and a few pen shouts.
3 pts from pboro and bolton away is not a bad return.
Get behind the team plenty of games left!

Yep, that’s fair, I’m not disputing that. I simply feel this game is more of an anomaly than others have been this season.
We’ve lost 2-1 on the road to one of the better sides in the league, having played a chunk of the game with 10 men, the goals coming from two penalties and a deflected cross. If they were as good as we’re supposed to be poor it would have been 7-1. Got to dust ourselves down and go again.
Of those more vocal in their concerns about Warne, are any attending the fans forum? Perhaps someone could articulate it in a constructive way in that space how some of the fans feel about the style of football being served up, might be the opportunity some people want to share their views in the correct way 🤷🏻‍♂️

For people giving out about Warne,
Cashins head wasn’t in the game to start,
    Tommo injured in training,
    Rooney injured after 10 mins,
A peno given agaisnt us outside the box,
A penalty or two we should have had, not given,
    And generally awful Reffing
I’d have taken 3 points from them two games before they started we move onto a nicer run of games now.

Listened to this on Radio Hysterics, what was the true reflection of this game? (posters I do not respect need not reply)

Bolton away was always likely to be the toughest game of the season. Let’s just move on.

I’m all for critical comments, but aren’t we playing away against a probable top six side with 10 men?

Obviously feel his value to the team is bigger than getting a fee.
    I tend to agree

Heard Ed Dawes on Radio Derby earlier say his last game he got sent off. So is he banned.
Never heard anything so stupid in my life. How on earth can you think a ban starts when someone gets fit again?
Plus he was on the bench last week for Sunderland and was due to be playing tomorrow.

He would be our youngest contracted forward.
He’d be the most prolific consistent scorer we have, scoring double figures for 5 seasons straight.

He’d be the least risky as he never seems to be injured playing over 40 games every season for the last few.

He would be our best target man and back to goal striker to hold it up
He’s no slouch and can bully CB’s
No idea why if we had the budget anyone would be against this tbh

Could potentially fit a narrative if you go looking for clues.
Warne said he wanted someone earlier in the window who’s holding out for a move to the champ, could be JCH. Some people have questioned where the money from Bielik and Knight has gone, is it sat in a ram shaped piggy bank (bought with discount from the club shop) on Mr Clowes’ desk with a sticky note marked JCH stuck on the side? Warne said he didn’t have a “Waggy” in his budget, is that because the wages were earmarked for JCH? He’s a former Warne player and there was definite post match neck sniffing on Sat as I observed in the match day thread.
I mean, it’s probably not happening and we’ll sign an unknown premier league loanee but it’s fun to speculate wildly on deadline day stuff 😊

Obviously Waggy fully deserved his MoTM for today - he was different gravy in the first half.
However Thommo was simply brilliant today from start to finish, he never stops running, is tenacious in the tackle, is tremendously strong for a little chap and he’s got a trick or two in his bag as well. He’s got that little edge to him too.
Considering he was only playing park football a couple of years back, his rise is an absolutely fabulous. There’s one hell of a player there in him and I’d be looking to get him under a much longer contract asap if possible.
im gonna stick my knock out here, but I think he brings more to the team than Knight did and will be a better player than Knight in the future.
A complete pocket rocket and I love him !! 😃🐏

I've always said since the very first time I saw him that there was a player in there.
I was very pleased he signed a new contract last summer but knew he needed to step up. It's taken 12 months but he is shining as he is something different to the rest.
Another good option that we didn't expect
