HW is obviously a good player, great first touch, good range of passing and looks to have a goal or two in him. Like others he was bruised and battered at Barnsley but he will learn from it.
He isn’t going to replace Bird or Knight but he does offer competition for places in CM. If Hourihane needs a rest I would have thought HW would have the skillset to do the job.

1Wildsmith 6. Spilled a regulation free kick / cross otherwise puffed on a Cuban waiting for a shot on target which never came.
12Smith 6  Neat & tidy defence but poor on delivery of crosses.
    3Forsyth 6.5 Effective & faster passes out.
6Cashin 6 One short pass opened us up but made amends with a steam train block.
    15Roberts 6 Neat & tidy linkages.
23White 6 Tidy passing without the physical presence of Bird.
17 Sibley 6 Slotted in to midfield when the game was won.
4Hourihane 6.5 Kept the ball moving but didn’t find the killer pass.
11Mendez-Laing 6 Less involved after a bright start.
22Springett 6.5 Injected energy when the game was won.
38Knight 7 The midfield machine & his perpetually pumping pistons patrolled the pitch.
26Thompson 7 Looked very bright & sharp in seeing the game out.
18Dobbin 8 Probably his best game for Derby; smoked his fb several times & left pairs of defenders in his wake. A couple of wasted chances before stroking home McDick’s perfectly placed pass.
    7Barkhuizen 6 Brief run out.
10McGoldrick 9 MotM A one-man footballing symphony; assisted the assist for his own goal by releasing Hourihane to cross before taking up the perfect position 15 yards out and pile-driving home; then the dink of dinks to breeze by the defender,  drew 3 opponents & put it on a silver salver for Dobbin to thump home. Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone, Stop the dog from barking…Whatever happens this is McGoldrick’s season & the reference will not be 2022/23 but simply The McGoldrick.
9Collins 6 Probably will just need to fold his kit and put it back in the drawer ready for Saturday; no need to wash it.
Derby had to win & they did. We can see just how good Bird is now he isn’t playing because we lack that grip & cohesive coherence that he gives us. It was scruffy but McGoldrick lit up the gloom with his cultured display. The first female ref to run a Rams game was very good and planets beyond many of the male numpties we’ve witnessed this year.

Well let’s start with the positives. I got home by 6:05 and watching the end of the rugby which we’ve won!!
Really frustrated today. Thought Warne was  spot on with everything he said post game. We beat ourselves with poor decisions and we were too slow and ponderous especially the back 4. And when we weren’t doing that we were lacking composure.
You could tell in the 1st minute we weren’t quite at it. Don’t think you could score any of our back 5 including Wildsmith above 5/10. Really poor, Fozzy had his worst game in years and Smith struggled. We never got control of midfield, White will have learned a lot today, a real test for him away from home and he struggled. I think he can do the role but he needed today’s game to learn. Didzy scored but was loose lots of time in possession which created problems for us. Thought the subs had a positive impact (with exception of Collins who struggled a bit) and Springett is pushing for a start.
That said we missed some absolute sitters today, could easily have scored 4 ourselves on another day despite playing badly, but it’s been a while since I’ve seen us defend like that. But it’s another defeat away against a top 6 rival. We need to sort this out although give me Barnsley in the the playoffs- they’re s**** and over two legs we’d have too much for them if we play as we can.
A word on Barnsley, what a horrible football club. So miserable they only sing when they’re 4-1, bunch of officious b******* with a teenager who’d been bought a pint by his dad and older group of people having his beer taken off him by a steward because he didn’t have ID (rules are rules I know but seriously), and then the bloody announcer giving a warning about rascist chanting?!! WTF was that all about ??‍♂️, clearly aimed at the Mendez-Laing chant, absolute disgrace from Barnsley that.

And then the miserable f****** at the metrodome as well. Clearly space for someone on his own not wearing colours but apparently not.

Not been a good day football wise but in a weird way it’s made me more confident about our playoff chances as I honestly think they’re s***.

6Cashin                         8.0   MoM just for his goal. Back to normal thank goodness.
    17Sibley                          7     Did OK.
23White                          7.5  Excellent debut and close to MoM for me even after that shocking tackle on him.
    Roberts                           6
4Hourihane                     7.5 Excellent game benefited from the 3 midfield.
7Barkhuizen                    7.5 Thought he a a very good game but should have scored.
18Dobbin                         5  Took a heavy tackle (foul). Not so effective.
38Knight                          7.5 What energy. Another to benefit from the 3 midfield.
11Mendez-Laing             7   Better game without the end product. Another to take a heavy foul.
22Springett                     6   Always looks lively when he comes on.
10McGoldrick                  7  Could easily have had another hat trick
9Collins                           6  Good physical presence. Just lacks goal threat at moment.

Need to take our chances though could easily have been 4 or 5. Gave Charlton limited opportunities.

1Wildsmith    7  Got a bit of luck with the loose ball after the only two saves he had to make, but dominated his area again.
    12Smith   7  Solid game. Ensured Charlton's dangerous wingers didn't get a sniff.
3Forsyth  7.5 Imperious - back to his best.
6Cashin  8.5 See Fozzy and add 1 for his goal.
17Sibley  7 Got away with 2 pieces of lax defending for the 1-2-1 that Wildsmith saved, but was on song for the rest of the game.
23White  8 A fine debut. 87.5% passing accuracy and most of it not sideways.
    Roberts  6
4Hourihane  8 One of his best games for DCFC. Looks much better in a 3 with Knight and White.
7Barkhuizen  6.5  One of his quieter games - should have scored from NML cross?
18Dobbin 7 Won FK for the 2nd goal. Good impact again.
38Knight  7.5  Charlton must think there were 3 of him on the pitch.
11Mendez-Laing 7.5  Nearer his best again. Laid on chances for Didsy and Barks that should have been converted.
    22Springett  6
10McGoldrick  7 Not his best, but busy as ever and a fine penalty.

1Wildsmith 7 Had to put his cigar down twice to make 2 saves. Otherwise a fairly event-free gig.
12Smith 7.5 Modern day Ron Webster. Cleans up, tidy passing, robust challenges. Doesn’t own a farm though.
3Forsyth 8. Standard day at the office: no fire alarms, no awkward customers to deal with. Clean sheet.
6Cashin 9 MotM Clean sheet & a Bobby Dazzler bullet header to make it 2-0. Hope he stays another 2 seasons at least.
17Sibley 6.5 Lost a few early tackles. Not quite the usual cutting edge; moved to cover White in midfield 2nd half.
23White 8 Classy. Slotted in to Bird’s berth and didn’t disappoint. Sprayed the ball all over and a nice shot inches over. Balance is restored. Optimism renewed.
Roberts 6 Muddied his boots for 20 minutes.
4Hourihane 7.5 Very influential. Got the penalty and assisted with a lovely dead ball into the corridor of uncertainty for Cashin’s decider.
7Barkhuizen 7 Unlucky not to score after NML split the defence. Disappointed to be subbed but got a warm applause as he trailed back around the pitch.
18Dobbin 6.5 Demonstrated pace as soon as he came on. Drew the foul which yellow carded the defender.
38Knight 7.5 Perpetual Action Man should’ve scored but put it wide.
11Mendez-Laing 7.5 Rinsed the full back twice with electric ⚡️ pace and balletic feet but less involved than usual.
22Springett 6 Worked up a sweat but no need to wash his kit otherwise. His moment will come.
10McGoldrick 7 Perfect penalty slotted home but missed a lovely cross from NML by shanking his shot after good control.
9Collins 6 Late sub for McDick.
    My Take
Confidence restored with a regulation win that could’ve been 4-0. Warney got the selection right - the last 2 games illustrated how big a gap the loss of Bird is. White is a very good stand-in. We won without busting a gut. CAFC showed less appetite than Lincoln & were comfortably kept at bay. Huge game at Barnsley next week which could be season-defining.

The ref didnt make him leave too. He refused to leave arguing with the ref wasting even more time. He never quite left the pitch and the fourth official had to physically put his arm out to stop him from coming on properly. Why he was not booked I do not understand. I have been watching Derby since 1983/4, my dad's best friend is from Lincoln and before Tuesday I had some affection for you as a team because of that, but your antics orchestrated by your staff are the worst I have seen in almost 40 years and was an utter disgrace. It eclipsed any good things you did. I would be embarrassed to come on here, let alone try and defend it.

chadlad reacted to Ellafella in Lincoln City (H), 7.45pm Tuesday 14th February.
The point just to be clear is that you took it to a whole new level on Tuesday. It was an organised, concerted tactic being implemented from your technical area and the only people in the ground who didn’t realise it were the 4 officials who practically  reinforced it. It is clearly against the spirit and law of the game. Have Derby County ever engaged in that to that degree? No. Unfortunately we’ve seen teams at Pride Park before do it, but Lincoln City, your team, have now written the manual on it.
As I said I was embarrassed for your fans who were impressive in number and volume. Would I want my team to engage in that to get a point away from home? No. I’d rather them lose 2-1 playing football because that’s the honest thing to do and that’s the spirit of football. A chap called Pele called it the “beautiful game” for a reason. 4 players going down at various different time spontaneously to break up play and result in the 2 physios walking on the pitch at “snail’s pace” for “treatment”, were clear tactics to disrupt play and run down the clock. It clearly crossed the threshold of unsportsmanlike play which the rules and spirit of the game forbid. The game descended into a farce thanks to another set of very weak officials who required players to advise them of the rules of the game eg bringing a player down by foul play with no intention of playing the ball is a yellow card. Your player House did it twice and rightfully earned 2 yellows.

Anyhow, enjoy the rest of your season. Best of luck.

Yes the A team played at Sinfin Lane where the first team trained. I can remember John Robson playing very well for the A team. It was obvious that he a quality player. I went to Sinfin Lane many times to watch the Rams training. It mainly seemed to be a couple of hours of running around and practice games. This was in the Tim Ward days.

chadlad reacted to Normanton Lad in Derby Reserves
The reserve team set up today is all about bringing the youngster through rather than keeping experienced but aging players on the books.
Those of us who watched the reserves in the 1960s and 1970s got the chance to see some famous names in reserve games.

The other day someone posted on a thread that I can’t find now that his cousin – Peter Stone-  had been a reserve player for Derby in the 1960s. I had forgotten Stone but I can see from the records that I must have seen him play many times. It just shows how fallible our memories are. The reserve players I remember are the ones who stayed in the game usually by moving to a smaller club, e.g. Barry Butlin, Cork, Boyer, etc. I followed their careers and it always pleased me to see them doing well elsewhere. I don’t know why but I followed Mick Jones’s career quite closely and I was delighted when he got the job as manager of Telford and disappointed when they went bust shorty after. He ended up with better jobs so it wasn’t such a big thing for him. A few years ago he caused a bit of a controversy when he told a reporter that Derby was no longer the place he remembered from his days as a reserve player. After a long walk around the city he said it had gone a long way downhill and he wasn’t wrong.

We all wish that we had played at least one game in the league. I even envy reserve players who never got a first team game. In the reserves they would have played against some top players and they can always say to their grandchildren that they played against this or that famous player. I can see from the records that Stone played against Stan Bowles when Stan was playing for Man City reserves. I can’t remember anything about that game except that Ralph Brand was also playing for City. I’ve always followed Scottish football and it was an exciting thing for me to see Brand play live. I even went to a Forest game just to see Jim Baxter play. Perhaps Stone can tell his descendants, if he has any, that he had Bowles and Brand in his pocket. I don’t know if he did or not.

One of my favourite reserve games was against Bury in 1975 or 1976. Derby had Alan Hinton, Leighton James and Roger Davies up front. I think Derby beat them 8-0.

Has anyone got any memories of famous players in reserve games?

Looked a good player when he came on didn’t give the ball away and sprayed it around to good effect. Admittedly Morecambe had gone by then but it will be interesting to see how he does against a more aggressive and pressing team.
Feeling very optimistic about HW, i am hoping he’s someone he can help us to control the game a little more, especially when we are ahead and need to keep possession, control the game and frustrate the opposition.
